I get the same wardrobe anxiety.

Too formal, too casual, too flashy, too dull...  I don't really belong to a fashion tribe, so I don't have a lot of reference points.

I am proud my home state has such a large section on TV Trope's "Everything Trying to Kill You Page"

What they left out is that Arizona is one of the few deserts where it's not uncommon to die by drowning. When Arizona does get rain it's often enough to flash floods.

Heheh. Yep! I love my home! It made me mighty.

In my head, her current chassis sounds a bit like GLaDOS, but about half an octave higher.  Her original sounded pretty much like her current one, but about an octave higher than that.  Of course, my brain insists on giving Winslow Received Pronunciation, so take this with a bunch of club soda.   :D

For some reason I am now hearing pwhodges in Momo's voice.

You can correct that impression in this thread.  Look further on in the thread for another sample; further back for my link with Thomas the Tank Engine.  Several more stories in this older thread.

Momo's 'fluid' is where she keeps the live eels.

I've always presumed that was a specific feature of her old chassis.

It's still a Japanese-made chassis, and presumably still "designed to appeal to the Japanese in general and otaku in particular", right? If anything, I'd expect her new chassis to have even more features like that, even if Momo isn't even aware of them.

Regression from what, exactly?

Every foot-soldier sees only their part of the battlefield. Every person has only so much energy and time, and needs to triage as much as any field hospital. To argue that it is not legitimate to fight the injustices you face each day, unless you can fight every single injustice ever, is simply an argument that one should not fight at all. When aimed at women, it's another version of "Shut up and stay in the kitchen."

Agree on this.

The thing is, if it was brought up differently, there would have been a much different reaction.

If instead of "why is everyone upset with this, when this is also happening" which causes people to get angry because whether you mean to or not, you are dismissing what is bothering people in order to focus on something else that is offensive to you, it was brought up "not only is it offensive to x, its also offensive to y because" most people would be agreeing.

X Rights aren't a zero sum game. If someone is discussing offense to something, it doesn't make offensive comments towards other things irrelevant just because they haven't been brought up yet.

Bingo.

Edit: I agree it should not be a zero sum game. But when the general tone of the forums tends to otherwise, I'm going to be an ass-hat about it. Because when when people get comfortable ignoring an issue, it creates new issues.

Because when when people get comfortable ignoring an issue, it creates new issues.

Don't you see that the discussion on moderation is intended precisely to avoid us who are mods getting too comfortable with what we do?

In comic news, it's worth noting that Hanners, Marigold, and Emily have exchanged a few tweets about Marigold's clothing issue.

My issue isn't just with the mods though, it's more with the community as a whole.

Edit: Which is why certain phrasing was contained in my original rant to include the possibility of disingenuous intent when it comes to community responses to statements that are considered sexist. Some I suspect are using it as a socially acceptable way to lash out at others.

Can I please request that any discussion about the general tone of the forum and the way it is moderated remain in the thread that was specifically established to discuss precisely that, so that this thread can stay as a discussion about this week's comment?

What was Emily's input on the clothing issue? I don't follow their Twitter feeds; perhaps I should!

I'd say Marigold should wear something which is clean, without holes, comfortable and representative of her interests (she's got several T shirts with logos and images on them, right?). If they were going out for dinner I'd advise the dress she wore to that party, but for an anime night jeans and a t-shirt are the best choice.

I'd say her best bet is to clarify what her immediate and long term goals are in her interactions with Dale; that would give a starting point for decision making about clothing appropriate for those, as well as making soliciting advice less frustrating.

Yeah, other than bad saurian anatomy and criminal neglect of the non-red sections of the palette, it hardly seems worth the tag and double spoiler. No more so than looking at any sort of picture at work at least…

I believe garments like that are commonly referred to as "sacks". People generally frown upon them, and warrant unwanted police attention, particularly when you are being guided by another person (usually with phrases like "RELEASE THE HOSTAGE IMMEDIATELY!" and such).

Excusing sexism in such a manner is kinda fucked up.

Huh, must have missed the memo about the next PC witch hunt.

So let me get this straight, what we are supposed to be outraged about is a silly and probably not serious statement about expected gendered behaviors when it comes to dating that potentially frame women in the role of sex object, but ignore that it also puts men in a stereotypical role of sex and beer obsessed simpletons.

Just wanted to know where I am supposed to aim the pitchfork to keep in lockstep with the rest of the hive mind.
This made me laugh so hard
