I'd assume that would depend on Jeph knowing some Marines well enough to be able to write them convincingly. I have no idea whether he does or not, but I personally wouldn't be able to write a character who was a Marine as I have only the faintest idea what it involves.

Yes, he has managed to "kiss some ladies", but in Dora's case, she kissed him first.  She wasn't "awkward" about it at all.  As far as Padma goes, he sort of just stumbled into that.

Now, if both parties are awkward and sheepish, it's between a rock and a hard place.  I mean, who's going to initiate first, if both of them seem "afraid" of each other?

By the way, I hope this post doesn't cross the line for "shipping" - just commenting on the dialogue in today's comic.

Well, it's possible that the guy thought the weirdness would be fun and refreshing. Which it might be, for a while. But then he realized that the weirdness wasn't just a veneer but was actually the core of Emily's being.

At least this clarifies one thing about Emily. Until now I had competing theories. One was that she was romantically inexperienced, which is obviously the correct one. The other was that she was as promiscuous as Raven and simply didn't make any connection between emotional attachment and sex, and was obliviously leaving a trail of heartbroken young men in the wake of her numerous one-night stands.

It seems likely he had "kissed some ladies" before that too. I don't recall anything in the Dora arc (which admittedly I try to repress) about how it was his first time or anything.

The little furlough where she played the part of a virtual companion in a Beta test case, to work off her little misdeed may still be an ongoing concern.
Since she has been established as having bad impulse control, she may have volunteered for something even more risky / embarrassing / deeper hole to dig herself into.

My idea, due to amazing quantities of concentrated sugars, caffeine and fatigue, was maybe she gets to test out a new companion chases for Beta testing.
Something with a more "Human Feel" from the inside.
Think about if you will, totally cut off from the outside world except for on board sensory systems and a watchdog AI that only she can see.
And to top it off she is unable to communicate that she is an AI.
Mayhem, angst and shenanigans ensue.
