Hi I'm new
« on: 07 Nov 2013, 14:52 »

Hello,

I recently stumbled across QC about a month ago and voraciously read the entire comic in about 4 days. I even emailed Jeph to let him know how awesome I felt the characters were and that some of them touched me (not like on a doll, but emotionally). I quickly found that I cared what happened to Faye, Marten, Dora, and Hannelore... among others.

Anyhoo, I'm sure many of you can sympathize.

My favorite character is either Hannelore, Claire, or Emily at any given moment.

Good to meet all of you.

Thank you, celticgeek!

Nice to meet a fellow celtophile. I'm pretty proud of my Scottish and probable Pictish heritage.

Though, I had to use an online translator in order to translate your greeting.  :-D

Thanks for all the warm welcomes Kugai, Is it cold in here?, and HauntingPoem!

It occurred to me after reading some other greetings that I should share a little more about myself...

I have lived in Twin Cities metro area of Minnesota the vast majority of my life and most of that was spent in the Uptown neighborhood. I am 37 and engaged; my fiancee is much more amazing than I deserve imho. I am an unrepentant Doctor Who, Star Trek, and Star Wars fan and all around geek (redundant?). I've collected comic books for several years, but I'm now losing interest.

I am currently addicted to Attack Wing, Minecraft, and Skyrim.

Four days?  Impressive, unless you're retired or otherwise unemployed and have lots of free time.  With that kind of crazy compulsive obsessiveness academic diligence, I'm wondering if you are also from East Asia.  (I'm the one East Asian in the location poll).

I've been reading QC for a couple of years, but have only now bothered to join the forum.  Many things are blocked by the government, bandwidth is limited, download speeds are usually 0.2 - 0.6 Mbps, uploads 0.7 - 4 (faster b/c not going thru as many censorship filters) and many internet features Euro-Ams take for granted are problematic.  - Breaking - Wow!  I just did a speedtest; now I know why the forum link showed up today!  Ping was 8ms - not great, but beats the heck out of the usual 175 - 350 ms.  Download speed today is 57 MBps!  Woo hoo!

Welcome fellow new person!

Looking back, the "4 days" guesstimate might have been off the mark, but not by a wide margin. Like I said: 'voracious'.

Though, my job does offer a bit of free time while on the clock. Usually by midweek I'm caught up on my work and looking for a distraction. My work is at a college computer lab, offering basic computer help for adults who aren't as knowledgeable as they want or need to be. APA formatting, plagiarism and why its a bad thing, accessing the internet, student website navigation, copy/paste...  That said, its generally pretty quiet.

I've never been to any Asia, let alone east Asia. I grew up in the upper Midwest of the United States, but don't hold that against me.

Good luck with all the bandwidth!

Hey, there are plenty of people who aren't East Asian and still live a fulfilling archive crawling life

I can sometimes hear their whispers when I crawl the archives, like shadows that are just behind my shoulder, but I now know not to turn my head. I can hear their whispers and their laughs, their "Hey honey, look"s and I hear their wails when they get to the 1800s. And a few of them, I can hear chitter excitedly at that point, because they didn't like where the story was going anyway. Their screams, their emotions become a cacaphony of dissonance, and when I cannot stand it any longer, I press "right arrow" and they become silent. For a while. Until it starts again.

I know enough to not go backwards. Don't ever look back.

Welcome, new people!

Before long, you'll run into one of the forum's most respected members, who is a Chinese-born Australian.
