I hadn't even noticed the sheets completely pulled out from under the one corner of the mattress and everything all lopsided until someone pointed it out.

Dang.

It's still providing a nice horizontal surface so I doubt it. I have found that once you break one, there is no laying in it comfortably.

This comic gave me the giggles. I particularly love Hanners' smile in the last panel. Warm and friendly, yet subtly sly.

  • The distilled essence of Mr. James Beam himself.

Marten told Dora that he had had four or five girlfriends before her - I seem to recall her getting upset about some aspect of it.

Ahh, here it is.

four or five others
Where's that from?
Yeah, I don't know that either.  The only thing I remember is the series alluded to some girl he came across the continent to follow, and then stayed in MA after they broke up.  But it was all prologue.
I actually went back to the beginning to double-check.  It was 1) abortive relationship with Faye, 2)Dora, 3)Padme, 4)Chick on space station if you want to include her.  I remember because there was a whole "Are you SURE its okay?" with Faye when Dora and Marten started dating.  I mean, its been like four years since I first read the whole series, but I'm 90% sure there wasn't anybody between Dora and Padme.
Edit:Thanks Carl-E.  Can you refresh my memory who this Vicky is?  Also, wow.  Dora really is/was kind of nuts if thats not play-jealousy.

Dora and Padma are the only ones in series, but the comic Carl linked mentions his four high school girlfriends. He's mentioned Vicky in college (and we don't know how many others in college). We know he's slept with at least three people (I don't know if he slept with Vicky, but he lost his virginity in the back of a small car before the strip started).

Maybe a little discontinuity, or maybe he doesn't count all the girls who "dumped him" in high school as having attained true "girlfriend" status, 'cause just recently he said he'd had "four or five girlfriends" with Dora as #4 and Padma as the or-five.  http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2569

I'd forgotten just how irrational Dora was while she was with Marten.  She's a lot more reasonable now.  Therapy seems to be doing her good.

On a side note, I am disappointed by the positive character development.

I feel kinda like Marvin the Martian.

"Where's the ka-boom? There was supposed to be a giant, earth shattering kaboom!"

I think the look on Dora's face answers that question sufficiently.  8-)

Bad Moon Rising - Creedence Clearwater Revival
Bloodletting (The Vampire Song) - Concrete Blonde

Surely there are others, but those are the three that come to mind.

I wrote a letter home from boot camp that was entitled the house of four fathers. I wish I could reproduce it, I could probably do a decent job of "guessing" at the full content giving I can still remember much of the emotion of boot camp.

So if a father is a male figure who has a significant influence in you becoming who you are today, I as a single human being have had many fathers indeed.
