Aren't jeans, by definition, made out of cotton?

Denim is cotton. Sometimes it has other fibers, too, but yes, it's pretty much cotton.

I am one of those 'wash after one wear' type of people. I do not and cannot justify paying $200AU+ for a pair of jeans. The most I've ever spent on a pair was about $70AU. I have one good pair of Lee Supa Skinnies, which seriously take me about 20minutes to put on, because I bought them a size smaller than normal and then they shrunk when I washed them.

The only time I've worn my jeans more than one day without washing them was when I was in Europe and couldn't wash anything because we were moving around so much. Without washing them they go all saggy around the top band, the knees and the thigh/butt area. I am a tiny person, so when this happens it just looks really bad and terrible. It seriously looks like I've picked up the smallest size on the rack and it's still too big.

I just like my clothes to be tight fitting. Especially when the majority of jeans I own (4/7 pairs) are some variety of stretch denim. Although, even the Lees which aren't stretch, still go baggy after I wear them.

I've not really had any problems with the life of my jeans at all, and I will wash them and put them in the dryer.

How do you non jean-washers keep your pants from just falling right off your butt and looking dumpy?

A combination of squats and lunges, usually.

Okay, I'll go first.
If you have a t-shirt, shirt, or fancy dinner jacket that has an irreparable hole in it, tidy it up and make another hole, symmetrical to the first. Then sew whatever fabric or image you like beneath the two holes. This is an idea and I can personally guarantee some sort of a result, everytime.
If you think I'm a person with a lot of good ideas, you should DEFINITELY try this.

Amanda, Tania, and Andy: Your jeans stretch out because they are not 100% cotton and have some sort of elastic/spandex/whatever in them that relaxes as you wear them from motion and body heat, and because woven fabrics generally tend to stretch when you put pressure on them in one place. Also, you are curvy ladies, at least enough so to experience otherwise perfectly fitted jeans that slide down off your butt even when wearing a belt, and this is because the jeans are not as curvy as you. If you are wearing [american] odd sizes, these are cut for teens. Try (women's) even sizes to see if that works better, because it did for me. Otherwise, you can cut your waistband at the sides or the back and take it in, but I would recommend asking someone else to do this if you are not an experienced sewing type because it is hard to work with so many layers of denim and get a good clean dart.

To be fair, I do not know how to avoid elephant knees 100% of times, but I pull my jeans legs up a little when I sit or whatever like I have seen my granddad do to his trousers to put the bendy part of my leg that takes up more space in an area that, well, has more space in my pants leg. Bonus is showing off my beast socks.

Yeah I asked my mum how to do it once and she was all 'you do it like this' then moved her hands real fast for a minute and my cardigan was mended.
So I looked it up on the internet instead. The internet knows how to teach stuff in a much better way than my mum does. Bless her.

Katie, that definitely makes sense about the stretch thing- because of the curviness, I usually make a point of buying denim with some degree of strechiness. If I don't, they either won't go over my hips or sag and bag like hell everywhere else. If my options are a pair that look great for a couple wears at a time or last forever but look like total ass on me, I guess I'm comfortable with washing my pants a lot.

Also I was gonna grab this hat so I was looking at their pants as well and some of them look alright as well. Once again I'm wondering if anybody has bought anything from this "Topman" establishment. The concern with these dudes is that everything seems pretty inexpensive and I'm worried I'll get what I pay for and the pants will fall apart on me in no time flat.

Everything I bought (in-store) from Top Man last July has since shrunk to an uncomfortable, wrinkly, lame ass fit, lost buttons, and just looks fucking cheap. It did not look so on the rack or the first time I wore it.

The pair of (relatively, not skin tight) skinny cords I bought there (also in July) ripped straight down the inseam when I tried to cross my legs.

In short, fuck that shit. Try Uniqlo.

Uniqlo don't got an online store and they sure as hell don't got stores in Australia. Which is probably good because it they did I would not have any money at all.

I very nearly just said "fuck it" and bought that stuff from Topman today, I guess it is lucky that I did not! Cheers Gene.

Basically, I want nearly all of Betty's shoes. But in particular, I want cute ankle boots for the coming winter. I should buy flat ones so I can wear them all day, but heels are so much prettier. Maybe when I have more money.

I think the last ones are the kind of heel that could be practical, but the 4th one would be more sensible. The 2nd last ones are my absolute favourite.

I for one absolutely hate those boots that are loose around the top, like pairs 1,2 & 4 out of those. Pair 5 is really nice but they aren't even ankle boots, and the last two pairs are OK I guess, but it is hard to tell with the angle on the second last. But yeah, pairs 2 & 4 suck really bad.

I dunno, making up my mind about such shoes and the kind of stuff that blogger wears is borderline impossible for me, I so I can't really blame them for doubting. It all falls under the category of things worn exclusively by young women who are trying to look adorable, and such outfits are super casual and meant to be kinda silly. I dated a cute girl who dressed like that for a while and she always managed to end up looking pretty good despite the fact that I would never have believed that any individual item she purchased could ever be constructed into a coherent outfit.

Ankle boots are part of the fashion trend of having young women dressing like they are 10 year old girls trying on their mothers clothes.

It's pretty offputting for a number of reasons, chief among them that it looks fucking stupid.

So I tried to pick something I thought was 'not very outragous' and 'quite accessible' to discuss on this thread. That didn't work.

As far as I can tell, the responses are:

A) "They are ugly"
B) "They are worn by people who dress ugly" or "They are worn by people who are "trying to be X"
C) "They are ugly but certain people make it look good"
Alex C : "This style seems like it's girls trying to be super-adorable and silly / the girl i know who actually dressed like that did look pretty good" ??

If I have mis-interpreted someone, please correct me.So I'm just going to go all out and talk about whatever fashion I find interesting. If your comments fit into A or B, it doesn't need to be repeated 5 times.

THINGS I AM CURRENTLY REALLY INTO:

Sass & Bide inspired Ruched Leggings
Particularly the ones on the left.

Super baggy printed tees
With tight jeans or leggings
Not sure about the white longsleeve underneath, but zebras are awesome

THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO TRY, BUT A BIT SCARED TO

Cropped baggy Tees
Probably not by itself, though I've seen girls do this

THINGS I NEED

A nice simple blazer to look smart in
Sometimes called a 'boyfriend blazer' for the loose fit
Not sure about the material, but a nice cut

Blazers with really strong shoulders and frills and stuff are pretty awesome
I really like the structured shoulders balanced with something slim/straight underneath

THINGS THAT ARE IN RIGHT NOW THAT ARE A BIT WEIRD

Short Long sleeve dresses with big shoulders
I think these are a bit Lady Gaga inspired. They are pretty popular right now, but I don't think it's me. And I don't know about this lace one

Ali I could not and would not wear any of those boots aside from the black motorcyle looking ones (#4) but you are skinny as hell and can actually walk in heels and also have insane fashion so I say go for it.

I just generally think they do nothing for the people who wear them. Like maybe they don't actively make them do worse but every one of the examples I can think of a better pair of shoes to put on that person.

Also I can  generally get behind most of the 80s inspired stuff happening but OH GOD PLEASE no big shoulders. I've noticed a lot of office girls wearing these really slim-cut and short jackets (almost bolero-style) with comically large shoulders. Like, beyond gridiron pads and heading into "JRPG villain" territory.

Anyway Ali you know me I am generally about looking very put-together and tailored and I guess in some people's eyes a bit stick-in-the-ass so all of this stuff that kind of looks like it's been pulled off of the floor and/or could double credibly as pyjamas flies right over my head

Ali, pretty much everything but the jacket with the fuckoff shoulderpads is really good, but also the shoes are kind of not.  Odd fact: Those shoes were all over Shibuya when I was there in 08.  Like, every second or third "fashionable"-looking girl wearing them.  Much like the sandal influx over here at the time.

Ali my big gripe about ankle boots is that they usually look like this awkward accidental combination of things. It's like different people designed the top and the bottom without consulting each other and they just don't have balance.

The biker ones and the very last pair are doing it right though I think.

Yeah, I absolutely love ankle boots, not because they're in fashion, but because they actually look really nice on pretty much everyone. Come to think of it, except for one pair I think all boots I've ever owned since the age of 14 or something have been ankle boots. Go for it, Ali!

Argghhh ankle boots. I hate them. So much. I have ridiculous long legs and they make me look stupid. It looks like I've picked up a pair of kids shoes. I hate they way that most of them just have huge gaps between boot and ankle. They pretty much do not suit me at all. If I'm wearing boots, they're going to be stompy, suitable for walking around in the rain in, or damn sexy thigh-high high heeled boots. I generally don't look ankle boots on guys either, there is just something about them I just do not like, at all.

I own one pair of them and the only reason I like them is that they look like fairy shoes. They are tight around my ankle with little tie up bits that come from underneath the arch of your foot and fold down flaps. They are cute, and I wear them only with one dress ever.

I prefer my high heels to not be in boot form. I am constantly taking them on and off to drive etc etc, so I do not want to be stuffing around with difficult shoes.

I have seen the whole cut off baggy tshirt thing going on a lot around here too. Singlets as well with some kind of strapless piece of cotton as a bra. I think it only really works if you are a skinny/tiny person. It's not something I think I could ever pull off - I am too pale and I would prefer my stomach to be covered in winter.

The girl in the dress is a very cute outfit and I like the blazers, but all the other fashion things are weird. As for the boots, I like the motorcycle looking ones (basically all the ones with chains on them). I prefer the two pairs without heels simply because I hate high, skinny heels but also because the looseness around the ankle makes more sense on those, because you can wear them over skinny jeans and not worry about them going up. But really, I think you've got good legs and I think you could pull any of them off.

I love this girl. So cute!

Yay something we can agree on!

OMG so cute

Also there's been more than one person in recent times saying things to the effect of "Dovey knows what he is talking about". Stop saying that! No I don't! I have so much to learn, like jeez.

Yeah, not flattering. It looks kind ridiculous.

Oh Kieffer.

Hey Ali, i don't really like any of those boots because they are more complicated than I like, but I generally like ankle boots that are simple. Like, lose those chains and shit and I'd probably like them. Also everything else you've chosen I think is pretty rad also I just got a slim cut but 'boyfriend' style blazer, it is a very subtle plaid and I FUCKING LOVE IT

Free clothes are dah best
