OK, just to satisfy my curiosity, I have a question for the assembled masses.

A couple of local entrepreneurs were on one of the access talks shows I work on, and they had invented the Short Belt. A fairly clever idea where the belt only wraps around 2 close belt loops, then cinches the pants together for a better fit. Nice enough guys, though the web site is pretty cheesy.

What I'm wondering is if this in any way sounds like a good idea to anybody here? It's not something I'd wear, but my sense of fashion is almost non-existent, so I can't go by what I think. Feel free to praise, mock, ignore, whatever. It's not like I'm ever going to see these guys again to pass along any feedback, this is just for my own curiosity's sake like I said.

I have one of those, only I call it a safety pin.

It looks like a pretty dumb idea and if used to actually make your pants tighter would create a bulge that digs in to your skin. It would also mean that if you put it on anything other than the front or back centre, your pants would be skewed and uncomfortable. I suppose you could use one on each side but really?

I like belts and I think they are a pretty important part of an outfit, and stylish to boot. Also those look like those crappy skate belts which are uncomfortable and unfashionable to begin with.

You lose, shortbelt.

Good points about the bunching and skewing. I did get a sense that this was a solution in search of a problem, as most inventions ultimately turn out to be. Still, stranger and more uncomfortable fashion items have become popular, so who knows.

I am trying to figure out how it is an improvement over the original belt. Also I'm pretty sure it'll ruin your belt loops if your pants aren't rugged.

I'm just going to preface this entire post with the fact that I don't know very much about clothing, so I am probably going to say something stupid. Feel free to laugh at me.

As I am a poor student, I think probably $40 or $50 is my maximum. If I found jeans that really, really fit, then I would be willing to pay more because I am hopefully no longer growing and would be able to wear the fuck out of them. I also have the feeling that nice jeans probably cost a lot more than that, but, again, I know nothing about clothing. My worry about wearing boys' jeans is really about fit. I wear a size 3 in girls' jeans, but I am only 112 pounds (read: skinny as hell) so I need the legs of jeans to be pretty thin. Can I find boys' jeans that have a wide enough waist but thin enough legs? I always thought that, since boys generally have smaller hips, the legs would be way too wide. Perhaps this is a misconception.

Yeah I think boys jeans would likely result in an awkward fit, especially considering the fit in the crotch. I know a lot of stores with a wide jean selection have sizes that are determined both by waist and by length, so there may be something for you there. I've never looked too closely at how long they get, though, as I'm not all that tall.

Well, most men's jeans are sized via waist and length. Ask a guy what size he wears, and he will usually say a 30x32 or something. Thats how men's pants are sized.

Either way, why not at least give it a chance? Just go to the store and try some on.

I'm 6'1'' and wear a 32x34.  It can be hard to find pants in my size from time to time, and big and tall stores emphasize the big over the tall and skinny.  I believe my friend who is 6'3'' actually found some girl tight pants in the mall once that fit him.  Tight in the crotch of course but hey, he liked them.  My roommate has the opposite problem.  he is 5'4'' and has a 0 womens dress size.  He has all of four pairs of pants he owns, and they were all bought by his dad on trips to Singapore and Japan.

I am 5'10 and I definitely never have to look at boy's jeans to find pants long enough. I got my last pair of skinnies at American Eagle and their longs actually bunched up at my ankles a little, but you get what you pay for in terms of quality. (They are not that good, but they are cheap.) Stores like New York & Co. have longer options and I've been pretty happy with their pants and the Gap has extra long which might be good for you. (Old Navy is the same company, but they do not have extra long, but their longs are pretty good length and fit me pretty ok.) I've also got a pair of DKNY skinnies which are really great and they're plenty long enough. I think lately a lot more clothing companies have been realizing that tall girls do exist (!!!), so they've been coming out with better inseam variety.

I know nothing about higher quality denim, but most of the places I get my jeans average $25-50 a pair. I generally don't like spending too much money on clothing simply because I ruin them with paint, ink, etc before I even get holes in them, so I haven't really made much of an investment in my pants other than the DKNYs because they fit like a dream and I wanted black skinny jeans.

-A lot of more expensive jeans are quite long in the inseam because they are meant to be adjusted to the wearer.

-$50 is probably fine for jeans if you're not trying to be Captain Fashion

- How skinny do you want the jeans to be? I always had a hard time finding men's skinnys that tapered all the way down to the ankle, which is probably why a lot of dudes wear girl jeans in the first place. If you don't need them to be insanely skinny you should do fine. Added bonus: Boy's jeans have PROPER POCKETS.

-----

Guys Roots Canada stores have just got in Levi's denim jackets and they are exactly the style I like and also $85 this is amazing and I am getting one. Be excited for me.

($85 is cheap for a Levis jacket, right? N. America is a confusing place)

Amusingly enough, I just went shopping yesterday with a petite lady friend and literally every article of clothing she picked up at several stores was absurdly large on her, even in the smallest size they offered.

(She's about 5'4", 110lbs)

Try Allsaints. They're formerly a London high street boutique which expanded into a small chain that makes really nice clothing. For some odd reason, all of their women's clothing is designed for tall girls.

Stay away from their leather (jackets, boots) but everything else is pretty high quality.

From what I gather they're having a summer sale. I'm certain you can pick up a pair of skinnies in that price range.

I bought a new pair of jeans a couple of days ago, and even the short model was about 4-5cm (almost 2 inches) too long for me. I know I'm short, but I'm not that short, damnit.
