I never keep anything in my pockets more than my keys, phone, and wallet, so tiny pocket girl jeans are perfect for me! maybe you guys just need to reduce what you carry around

It's not size so much as depth, really. I find girl jeans always leave the top of my wallet and phone poking out, which isn't exactly the best idea.

That's because most girl jeans don't come with deep pockets. I have had one pair in the past few years that I could fit my entire hand in while most have stopped at my knuckles.

Yeah, girl jeans couldn't fit my wallet, could barely fit my phone (and I have a pretty small phone), and if I tried to fit my wallet, phone, and keys all in the same pair of pants, my keys would scratch the hell out of my phone, and I would still have nowhere to put my mp3 player or headphones.

And they would look pretty stupid, because I'm pretty sure I would have a hard time finding 32-33/33-36 girl jeans, so it would be like jean capris.

Those things would never have existed if fashion hadn't dictated we crush our testicles until they turned into ovaries.

I'm glad it is turning to fall again, actually. It is nice to be able to put my wallet and keys in my jacket, and most of my jackets have a chest pocket for my mp3 player.

I fit my phone sideways into my left pocket, my keys in my right pocket, and my wallet in the back, no scratching of anything! you got me on the mp3 player predicament though, I suppose if I was desperate I'd just lug around a messenger bag or something

it has to be to hold all of my three million tracks. in FLAC

admittedly it would be the only thing in the messenger bag and that's sort of overkill but what other option do I have

I think that particular bag warrants the term murse, because a really ugly bag deserves a really stupid word. I wouldn't want to tarnish the term manbag with that monstrosity.

on the topic of manbags:

I currently carry around my stuff in a black Oakley backpack. It's durable, comfortable to wear, has a bunch of small side pockets for my allergy meds, phone charger, condoms, cigarettes, sunglasses, etc. Inside it has two sleeve pockets for books or a laptop and it comfortably fits a giant Fiji water bottle that I refill and carry with me every day. It's an excellent bag for utility but it makes me look like a juvenile dumbass.

I've been fawning for months over this bag:

It looks like a duffel in these pictures but slung over the shoulder it's a pretty standard-sized messenger bag. It's gorgeous (and expensive) but I'm sacrificing pretty much all utility here. It's got one general pocket and then two smaller buttoned pockets on the outside. There are no zippers or buttons, and the only way to keep it fully closed is to loop those leather straps through. The large water bottle I carry would take up at least half the bag. If I kept a laptop in it I'd have to invest in a nice neoprene sleeve because there's no separate area for it.

I know we've had the style vs. utility debate before but there has to be some way to get a little of both. Suggestions?

yes i have this exact same problem - i use a black backpack and it's amazing but not very fashion-conscionable. i need something that is pretty and utilitarian but it also needs to be comfy for cycling.

Guy I knew who volunteered for the Peace Corps had this Jansport messenger bag once.

It sucked. He was a cool guy, real respected volunteer, that one. But his bag annoyed me to the bottom of my very soul. It looked like the kind of thing a liberal arts major in a party-based fraternity would wear. Nerdy-chic and trying way too hard, you know the drill.

(my point being that it is just a bag of stuff, sure there's cool ones but in the end it's silly to make a big deal out of a glorified knapsack)

I find it incredibly hilarious that you mixed html and bbcode to try and make a url.  Also, those bags do look quite nice, but their logo reminds me of silver.  that's all.

i don't know how fashion-conscionable crumpler bags are, i think some of them are kind of neat looking for really practical bags but i can see how others might think they are super ugly.
anyway, about a week ago i ordered this one for school -

and it's definitely very useful and comfy. this thing has about a million pockets without being too heavy and it makes getting your crap into order very, very easy. having had to run to the bus in the pouring rain a few times these last few days i'll also verify that your stuff inside WILL stay dry. they've got a pretty large and diverse range of utility shoulder and messenger bags so it could be worth a look.

They're OK but mostly for the same people who wear climbing pants + shoes as everyday clothes. You know what I mean.

Gene that bag is pretty as hell but I'm quite sure you can find something just as nice that will also fit all yr crap in. I don't have any specific recommendations though, because I suck.

I just recently got a crumpler camera bag (this one) and it is super neat! I would have liked it if we could have gotten one in a different colour (they only had brown or green) or a patterned one, but I think that would have meant getting it made specifically and we wanted one right then. I have always liked crumpler bags, and that one is very nice, tania!

Scarred, they're totally worth the investment. Super high quality, the main inside compartment is removable and completely waterproof, they look awesome, have a secret, velcro-shut pocket in the lining (great for stashing your weed and related paraphernalia, among other things) and sport a fucking seat belt buckle. Honestly if you want a nice bag which is convenient to bike with I cannot possibly recommend Chrome any more.

I'd get one but I don't bike much and they don't really fit my aesthetic otherwise.

Crumpler bags are excellent camera bags but a little too bright and nylon to be fashionable.

Chrome is a pretty popular brand name too so it's worth checking craigslist, since it's not like people are really trading in counterfeits to the same extent as with fashion bags. I snagged a green mini metro bag as an impromptu college gift for my li'l brother for $60, and since it's made of cordura it's not like it really suffered any from being lightly used.

Well, see, I have a road bike with drop handlebars and I like to go fast and low for at least some part of the ride. So your standard cheap backpack is annoying because they sit high on the back, don't have an anti-sway strap and can't really cinch up as tight. Once during a hard stop I ended up getting smacked right upside the back of the head with my own books REAL hard and so now I have a messenger. If you're just going to putter around on a fixie cruiser with sweep bars then I really doubt it matters, but that doesn't mean there isn't some advantages to having a good messenger bag.

All the more incentive. So, now that winter is rolling around toward the S.F. Bay Area, I need your opinions on Carhartt. I currently own this awesome jacket in the tan color shown, and it is pretty epic. However, sometimes I don't want to go into work looking like I shoot petrol cans and fuck my cousins.

Suggestions?
