Just handle it like you would finding a roommate.  Find someone who'll be reliable, won't do shit that'll get you thrown in jail at 4:45 AM, and then just proceed to ignore the hell out of each other.

Sounds like possibly a really bad eye infection, not necessarily pink eye.  once had a terrible sinus infection that spread to my eye, and I had to get crazy antibiotics to clear it up.

i haven't gone to see a doctor yet but i'm almost 99% certain it's an eye infection now, i have had a couple of these before and can now recognize the familiar-if-disgusting symptoms of feeling your eye filling with goop and waking up with it completely caked in crust. somehow hand in hand with this, my terrible sickness has come back with a vengeance and so i am sitting here after having slept 15 hours coughing and sneezing and hacking snot everywhere with still three finals to study for and fuck i don't even know where to begin. i feel like i should maybe get a doctor's note, but i've never actually done that before and i completely aced my final yesterday despite also being sick and having this ridiculous eye problem so it's not like i even really need it. mostly i just want to sleep and not have to do anything ever again.

  • Dealing with it.

I ate way too much pizza last night and drank half a 2 liter of dr pepper then went to sleep. I woke up once in the middle of my sleep (I went to sleep at nearly 2am) and drank 1/4 of a 1 liter bottle of water, I guess. Then I woke up around 5 am and drank half another bottle the same size. When I finally got out of bed at 630, (to be to work at 630) I felt some terrible heartburn, but I pressed on and went to work.

I wanna just go home and sleep. After I put my check in the bank and pay rent.

Blog Thread!

I am in London! It is a pretty cool place and I wish I could live here, maybe I will at some point in the near future.

Things have been up and down, though. The Coheed shows I am here to see have been amazing, though the one on Tuesday was postponed to this evening because of some electrical fault that sent some dudes to hospital, and unfortunately I couldn't go to lastnight's because I was ILL. It sucks because lastnight's show was my second favorite album by the band. Tonight's is my favorite, though, so I am DEFINITELY going, even if it kills me.

Not just ill, either. I went to the local supermarket to buy some breakfast - my stupid eating habits means I can't eat anything my friend and his housemates have in their fridge / freezer - and passed out while waiting in line. They called an ambulance to bring me back to the house. Apart from a nasty bump on the side of my head where I bounced it off the supermarket floor though, I am feeling much better. My friend, who is also going to the shows with me has been in bed all day and is also very ill. Hopefully he will be feeling human enough to join me, otherwise it is going to a show on my own in a city I don't know that well.

I know the transport routes, though, so it should be ok. Presuming I don't pass out on the underground, or at the show, or somewhere on the street in between.

There is a seating / balcony area at the venue for VIP ticket holders. I'm thinking about asking security if they'd let me up there if I started to feel rough, but I have this feeling they would probably be like "maybe if you are ill you should not be at the show?".

Also there is a really cute girl who lives with my friend and I think I am picking up The Signals but 1) I'm probably just imagining and 2) my friend has suggested he has designs on her. Tricky situation!

Apart from that I paid the deposit on a Valentine's gift I'm buying somebody, so now I just have to save up about £900 before February. It's nice to be kind of insane!

Also; Jager is expensive and rare here :<

'Allo Bloggy.

I'm working again tonight, which isn't usually too bad, except the doctors are now worried my glandular fever has left me with a nasty case of the blues, and not the kind where I get to bust out saxaphone solos every five minutes.

So I get to see more doctors this Wednesday!

I work as a medic at a music/gig/whatever venue like this in Brighton and in some cases if we've had someone feeling ill who's got a standing ticket, the managers will let them go take a seat up in the boxes to watch the rest of the show. Give it a shot, see what happens.

This reminded me that earlier this week I was in a bar with some friends and the specials list mentioned 'Jagger Bombs'[sic]. "JAGGER bombs! That must have something to do with Mick Jagger!" My friend Mike said, pretty loudly. "I wonder what they are, anyway," I said. "Nasty, that's what!" said a passing waitress. "It's Jager and Red Bull. Nobody ever orders that."

I'm glad to report that the clientele of my favorite bar has better taste.

I'm totally in love with Jager. Haven't tried any of the 'bomb' varieties as yet, since just as a shot it's fine enough.

I find the idea of Jager making you sleepy utterly crazy though! It has completely the opposite effect on me. Usually if I have a nap before going out I'll have a shot either before I leave the house or as soon as I get to wherever I'm going, because it gets me in the Party Mood as douche as that sounds.

Also thanks, Tom. My friend woke up and he is feeling really rough so we will probably do that. The tickets themselves aren't marked as 'STANDING' or anything like that, so it is entirely possible the balcony is free game. Just our observations have suggested otherwise.

Also... glandular fever... if it is anything like when my mother has that (I think) she was all laying around the house for months. That is enough to leave you with non-saxophone blues in my experience, hopefully now you're past the illness and doing stuff again it'll pass pretty quick. It would suck if it is something more clinically serious.

I mostly love it when I see that word spelled "Yag", which is usually only by those who are under age. Though around here we never add the second syllable. My roommate and her friend polished off a liter of it last night by themselves (just straight, I think), so they were all "puke puke *giggle* puke puke* since Jag puke looks a lot more like blood than it probably should.

Jag and ginger ale is delicious though, who knew Jag had complexities. It's a fruity dark amber fizz with just a touch of anise. That was one of those "Hmm. What the hell can I mix this with so I'm not just taking shots all night?" discoveries.

What jaegerbombs are great. Both parts taste fantastic and together they sort of work, but most importantly it's a shot and an energy drink that you don't need to hold on to while you're dancing and then when it's finished find somewhere to put it so people don't end up with all shards of glass in their feet. It's pretty much the best clubbing drink around.

Dear Goddamn Blog,

I have come to the realization that I have no idea where the people my age are in town.

I know where all the college people hang out but I don't know if I want to be the old 27 year old guy hanging out with them.  I know that all the old 27 year old guys who hung out at my college were mostly involved in the drug trade and sadly I was never cool enough for that.  I hung out at the borders of that scene of course, but was never formally invited in.

I know there must be people my age here who share my interests but I don't know where to look.

I know that I don't want to try using any online tools (as was suggested to me by a friend).

Maybe there just aren't any people in this area my age I can hang out with.  Maybe I should hang out in in a larger city area like Montreal or in Vermont somewhere.  (Though if I did that I would really have to learn French and whatever language they speak in VT)

I could try doing another media project like my old skit comedy show.  That would be a cool way to meet people.

I dunno.  It kinda sucks having to move into a suburban/rural to get your first real job.  Plus I have come to realization that I never "learned" how to make friends in high school, college, or graduate school.  I just kind of met people through shared interests.

Explodey feeling is not cool. Steam helps relieve some pressure in your head though. Fill a big bowl with bowling water, stick your head over it and put a tea-towel over your head to keep the steam in. My mum does that when her sinuses get really bad and it relieves the pressure and makes your head feel less explodey.

  • COME DOWN NOW

So now that I have been accepted to a University, I have to make a decision as to where I'm going to live. My parents' place is a 25 minute drive or so from campus. I live there presently and an option for me is to continue living at home (my parents would like this because it saves them boatloads of cash. I would not like it because it may interfere with my progress as a person and also I'm pretty tired of living with my parents even if we don't really grate on each other like some families do). The University offers one-bedroom apartments ($600 a month or thereabouts, which is the average rate for a place around here) on or near campus, that is another option. The third option is to live at home for a few more months and then move out and live with my cousin, who is also going to school, in March. We'd be farther away from campus than the Uni apartments, but close enough that biking would be a viable means of transportation. My parents are leery of me moving in with my cousin for a number of reasons but it will be cheaper for them.

So I have to decide. Ugh.

On the upside, for the last few months I've had a hard time with torrents, because we have Comcast service, and Comcast unilaterally throttles torrent programs. There's a workaround but I couldn't get it to work. I revisited it today and found out that the name of the computer had been misspelled in the router program. Once I corrected it, torrents started working again. Yaaaaay.

In other news I got some sweet headphonez, Sennheisers, and also this little thing:

It's a DIY headphone amp. Commercial units go for $200 on average, these ones cost $20 to make, and they're stylish.

kvp (what is your real name? i am sorry i am so bad at remembering these things), being in debt is terrible but unless you really absolutely cannot afford it i would seriously recommend moving out because if you don't move out for university, the next opportunity tends not to present itself until after you have graduated which can be at least three years later and it is just an excellent opportunity to learn all those millions of things you didn't realize you would need to know how to do while living on your own until you are living on your own. obviously you also end up doing ridiculous shit like having stupid amounts of parties and disappearing for days on account nobody needs to know where you are, but with that actually comes a very surprising number of lessons about responsibility that are hard to learn in other ways. also, feeling like you are kind of sick of living with your parents is a pretty big reason to move out as you will probably be wanting to do as good as possible in your classes and not enjoying your environment can be surprisingly detrimental to concentration and studying efficiency and all that.
i know i am biased because i do not get along with my parents but i am still very, very glad to this day that i made the decision to move away for school. i would be a totally different person if i hadn't.

Yeah (John, by the way) that's basically what I was thinking. The mitigating factor in this instance is how much my parents are going to support me. I'm not sure if I can get a job, I certainly won't get a job that's as nice as the one I have now.

Update on The Faint Guest List!:

As of right now, I still have no one to go with. I am thinking of going by myself, and then finding someone to pick me up from the metro, since the buses back into town don't run after 11pm. Maybe I can meet someone in St. Louis who would care to join me. My friend who was/may still be interested told me to ebay the experience. ha! Not only do I doubt people would actually want to pay to hang out with me, but I can't make any money off of the experience, since I got on the guest list via work.

Another one of my friends told me that only I could make something as cool as getting on a guest list to a show not cool. :(

Yeah, I would also recommend living on campus... you meet so many people that way, and you are NOT living with your parents. That's a good thing! Because you get to be independent and do whatever and yes you will probably make mistakes, but that's kind of the point. It's like Real Life training wheels.

And to be honest with you, I absolutely hated living in the dorms (I liked my roommate, though she was really into exclamation marks!!!!!!!, but I disliked every single person on my floor that I met) but I did learn so much about myself.
