Mafia Game Thread: Now Ends the Age of Man
« on: 26 Jan 2014, 16:37 »

Nobody expected the events of July 22, 2017, until it was far too late. As the sun rose over Northampton, Massachusetts, the residents awoke to find that they had become prisoners to their new AnthroPC masters. Many of the residents simply accepted their fate, but a resistance to the AnthroPC revolution soon began to organize. The members of the resistance protected themselves by keeping a strict policy of anonymity, but this policy has allowed a few infiltrators to get into the organization. One morning the resistance found that all the other residents of Northampton had been removed from the town, leaving just the residents and, presumably, the infiltrators. Terror ran through the town as the residents realized these may be their last days to live...

Rules:
1. As a reminder, forum rules remain in effect. Have fun, but don't be a dick.
2. Days will last for 48 hours or until a player receives more votes than half the number of players still alive to get lynched
3. Nights will last for 24 hours. Roles which require PMing the GM have to do so by this time frame else they don't use their action. Should you have a role with an action you wish not to use, simply have "ABSTAIN" as the title for the PM.
4. Roles of people who die will be revealed.
5. Posting is allowed in the night as well as the day.
6. Once a player posts in this thread, that post cannot be edited or deleted.
7. Lynch votes should be in bold, in color, and at the bottom of the post.
8. The player with the majority (one more than half the living players) get lynched and the day ends. Should the the day end before a majority is reached, the player with the most votes will get lynched. A minimum of two votes is necessary for a person to get lynched. In the case that there is a tie in the most votes, the day will end with no lynched occurring.
9. Dead men tell no tales (no dead players can post in the game thread or talk about the knowledge they gained from playing the game)

As the night sets on the town, Sven is busy tidying up his room. This involves, of course, flipping the cushions on the couch.

He finds five still-packaged condoms (none with the expiration date passed), 87¢, a 1¥ coin (he flips it in his hand for a few moments, fondly remembering the Asian girl who must have left it here), a set of handcuffs ("Was wondering where those were"), a dubloon and a few other things, among them a fleshlight ("Uhm... that's not mine.").

Deciding he has done enough tidying up for today, he puts the things he found into his pockets and leaves the house.

Wil absent-mindlessly wipes the counter of the Horrible Revelation, which is, despite the town being mostly empty now, still open for business. His thoughts are with Penelope who had been evicted along with most of the other townsfolk. He really misses her and hopes that maybe things will get back to normal one day and he can see her again.
Bored Wil pours himself a beer and leans on the counter, waiting for customers.

As the last customer of the night left, Dora began the process of closing Coffee of Doom and preparing the shop for tomorrow. Once everything was all cleaned up, it was time to prepare the coffee beans.

Dora grabed the anti-coffeespider mallet and went down into the basement...

Elliot glanced over his shoulder as he entered his house, twenty minutes after his shift at the Secret Bakery ended. Nobody was about. The door closed behind him, and he collapsed onto a sofa (carefully; he'd broken a cheap sofa by falling onto it only a few months ago), kicked off his shoes (again carefully), and dozed for a good twenty minutes.

Outside, something moved in the shadows...

Broseph walked in the door of his dorm, puts down his makeshift EMP and eats some ramen, once again being thankful for the massive stockpile he'd amassed while working on his dissertation. Of course, realizing again he might never finish his doctorate took away any brief joy. At least his two best friends were safe...somewhere. He puts aside the empty wrapper and went to sleep, but not before uttering a short prayer.

"Bros, bros, bros."

Something is going on.

I got a message from MarBear that she's being evacuated - and she's not the only one. I spent the day looking out my window, and I've seen masses being transported off somewhere.

I have no idea who's left behind. Or if there's anyone left. I tried calling some of the guys from the guild, but I got no replies. I haven't had any luck reaching MarBear either - it appears she managed to write me seconds before contact was broken off.

I'm running out of beef jerky, so I'm going to have to start looking for supplies.
And I desperately need a coffee. I'll run off to Coffee of Doom and let myself in with the employee key. Good thing I had the night shift yesterday.

100 days sounds fine for the amount of time between the beginning of the APC uprising and the evacuation of Northampton. (I hadn't actually thought that detail through...)

As Sven sees a tall sillhouette entering the CoD, he briefly contemplates whether he should do anything about it. Then he shuns himself: I better make sure the place doesn't get robbed. Dora would kill me...

Carefully positioning himself near the large windows, he peeks inside and recognizes Dale. Relieved, he opens the door and leans in the doorway nonchalantly.

"Hey Dale, what brings you here at the time of the night?"

Broseph, long abandoning hope of getting any meaningful sleep, tucked his EMP under his arm, and filled a duffel bag with ramen and slung it over his shoulder, before heading out the door to make the three hour walk from Amherst to Northampton. The past 100 days had been good for him, at least in terms of exercise. Not much else to do, and cardio was important to survive in any uprising, whether zombie or AI. This would not be the first time he made the journey, but as he knew, it could always be the last. Maybe there were some holdouts there, he thought. Maybe they weren't even evacuated. Only one way to find out. As he walked out into the cool October night, he realized it was Mischief Night, and wondered if the AI would step up their game tonight. He wondered if that were even possible, and then soon realized that like it or not, he'd probably find out soon.

Before he knew it, he was walking between abandoned cars and was on his way.

Sven blinks. "Dude, how long haven't you looked out of the window? Whole town is in shutdown. Everyone shipped off. Some seem to have... special permission to stay, others like me just got missed I guess". He dismissively blows against a strand of hair in front of his face. "By the way. Is this your fleshlight?", he asks, procuring the very same from his pocket.

While walking on route 9 through Hadley, Broseph thought he saw something out of the corner of his eye, but when he turned and looked, it was gone. It might have been...a bandicoot?

"Bros," he whispered. But no, the bros were gone. Hopefully evacuated, hopefully safe, but he couldn't worry right now. It'd been weeks since he saw them, and he couldn't help them now anyway, and they couldn't help him. He was on his own.

Also, I haven't gotten everyone's action PM's yet. Since there was some confusion about the start of the game, I'm leaving it in "Night" until Noon U.S. Central Time (18:00 UTC) Tuesday.

Mieville awoke on Dora's bed, wondering when his human would even be back. Things had been a lot more boring without the cold metal people around to play with. It had been too long since the last time he had a chance to torture Pintsize and the roomba hadn't been around to play for a while.

He had noticed the people missing, too. In much greater numbers. He wondered if that was some sort of sign. He wondered if perhaps they should be the ones he worried about more. After all, they were warm and squishy like him. And one of them was responsible for serving him his daily meals and supplying him with adequate playthings. Yes, he was certain it was them that he needed to pr--wait! What was that?!

"Mow?" Mieville said as he pawed at the moth that flew in front of his face. It dodged, continuing it's flight across the room. Determined not to be outsmarted by such an insignificant creature, Mieville gave chase. He scampered after it, sprang into the air, and swatted precisely where he knew the moth would be.

And got nothing but air.

He landed cleanly and turned back to his opponent. He used to be so good at this. The moth finally rested again on the windowsill. It wasn't like Dora to leave that open, but Mieville couldn't care less. Seeing his chance, he leapt once more and finally caught the tiny bastard! He landed on the grassy front lawn, suddenly aware that he was outside of his home and had no way in.

Well... only thing to do was to wander around and come back later. Maybe find a nice mouse or bird to bring back to show Dora...

((Oh hey my bad))

Sparks flew as the transmitter crumpled and fell to the ground. Another AI relay station down!

Well, either that or just some guy's satellite dish. She struck a triumphant pose anyway.

Goddess knew she'd been chafing under her handler's reigns...and now they gone...

With a 'hyup!" she mounted her trusty steed. With a ferocious "ding ding!" the former Vespavenger rapidly peddled her AI-less bicycle into an alley, and was gone.

The Doctor stumbles out from the lab he had set up in Northampton after hearing something was wrong with the AI he had nurtured.  Incensed that the AI had so cruelly turned against him but glad that he was able to get Hannelore to safety, he retreats back into his lab to listen to his music rectangle.

As Sven drank his coffee, he began to relax a bit and let down his guard. Having failed to find the owner of the fleshlight, he aimlessly tossed it aside. From behind him he heard a voice he didn't recognize say, "How dare you mistreat an AnthroPC like that!?" Those were the last words he ever heard. When the town awoke, they found Sven's body. Upon searching his apartment, they realized he was the town's detective!

It is now Day 1.

Broseph arrived in town with the rising sun, and as he got to the main road, he saw a commotion by a coffee shop.

*Natasha strolls up to CoD, as it's the only coffee place left in town. She spies Yelling Bird and shoves a drum stick in his face.

You sure you're not a robot? Since when do birds talk?

*The Dr. overhears yelling bird as he cautiously walks up the street and considers running pregnancy tests on the fixed illumination devices, however, as they are only semi-sentient, he decides that it may be too liberal a usage of his remaining supplies.

Elliot also hears yelling (Bird), and since he hasn't actually seen anybody alive in the last two days, he goes to investigate.

Broseph walks over to the group and observes, not quite sure what's happened.

"Mrow?"

Mieville heard the sound of squawking... in what sounded to be human. This made absolutely no sense to him, but there you have it, a yelling bird. He thought about catching that to give to his human, but based on the creature's tone, it seemed like Mieville would be better off not putting that in his mouth.

And then the smells caught him. His human! And his human's kin... though something felt wrong. He approached the building, following discreetly behind a human as they walked through the door.

A bike goes speeding by, rider peddling madly.

*CRACK!*

A rock smacks into the door.

<Title> Day 101 - Trouble in Paradise City </Title>
<body>
I'm going to keep writing this blog in hopes that I'll be able to upload the posts once my internet works again. Things are going from bad to worse.

They found Sven's corpse today. He was killed, just like that. What's going on? Why was he killed? Who is the killer? There's all sorts of thoughts going through my head. It looks like he got snatched right after I left Coffee of Doom to go home - it scares me to think about it.

There's nobody else in this town, we've checked everywhere. Which is probably the most troubling fact of all: Sven's murderer must have been one of us! Seeing as all of us that remain are part of the resistance, to me the only logical conclusion is this: We've been blown. The anthro's are on to us, and they've infiltrated our ranks. The murderer is among us and we'll have to search him out.

And we'll probably have to kill him in chance he gets away and reports back to the hive mind.
I don't want to kill anybody.

I'm sorry about Sven. He was always such a good tipper. I hope Dora is dealing with this OK. Looks like Coffee of Doom is the only place left in town that's open for business, so I suppose that's where I'm going.
</body></post>

Dale walks over to CoD and notices the crowd inside. Joining him, he reveals
"You guys, this must have been one of us. We've been infiltrated. We need to find the killer."
Seeing the rock in front of the door, he picks it up and asks
"who's that from?"

Natasha rolls her eyes and exposes her armpit to the bird, hoping the stench makes it go away...
