If I were at home I'd probably be watching Puppy Bowl instead, but I'm at the lab and Puppy Bowl isn't broadcast online.

Am I the only one on this forum wanting Seahawks to win? I guess being in Seattle a lot last year and having a Seahawks fan as a boyfriend coloured me. Not watching it though because I'm going to bed soon, there are several limits to how much I care about sports and staying up past my bedtime is one. That said, go hawks!

Manning and Welker. Manning is a temper tantrum drama queen and Welker seeks out the spotlight every chance he gets.

10 years going and Joe Buck has his record intact- cheering over a minor play as if it was the greatest thing to happen while giving a major play the brush off, pretty easy to tell which team he is really going for not even trying to show any semblance of unbiased announcing

Halftime wasn't that great imho. And the game was kinda boring. But it was great watching it with some guys here in the Fachschaft and that was great. The other two who actually know American Football and I are considering to meet and watch more often.

The 80's called.  They want their one-sided Super Bowl back.

I had romantic obligations to root for the Seahawks this year.

Bruno Mars didn't suck as much as I thought he would, but I had pretty low expectations to start with.  I was dissapointed the Red Hot Chili Peppers only had one song.

My daughter works tech support for DirecTV.

She called with a migraine.  Superbowls are mandatory all-hands-on-deck days, and she can't get early release for sickness.

This just in: Peyton Manning tried to throw his uniform jersey to a kid who gave him a Coke after the game.

It was intercepted by the Seahawks.

Okay I'm sure it's good Seahawks won and all but now my boyfriend won't stop talking about football. Although I guess that would have been the case if Broncos won too, except then he would have been sad and now he's happy, so this is preferable. Good on Seattle for winning something sports related for the first time in decades, though!

ahahaha that is awesome.

I know jack shit about football and I knew that the Broncos were going to lose before halftime even started.

Also, there was a serious lack of pepper in the halftime recipe. I know I should be grateful for whatever I can get but that small taste was just not enough. However, considering all the Top 40 crap out there, I am thankful that the Halftime Powers That Be chose Bruno Mars. I can actually sit through most of his songs!

That means you fit right in with the Denver Broncos offense. :D

A small note to our friends not in the US and Canada: what happened on that first play by the Broncos is not supposed to happen.

Odd note of the day: this was the first time in Super Bowl history where one of the teams didn't attempt a field goal or point-after kick at any time during the game.

On Superbowl XLVIII from The Economist of all places.

Incidentally, why are Superbowls numbered in Roman numerals? Nostalgia for gladiatorial combat? To give the bulk grunt a veneer of civilisation? The BBC displays the copyright dates of its programs in Roman numerals, but I always assumed this was to show off their obsolete classical education. Or to conceal the fact that the show is an ancient repeat....

The story of the Roman Numerals was to give the game some faux importance. The name is actually derived from a children's toy ball, one that was owned by the daughter of Lamar Hunt - who happened to be both the owner of the Kansas City Chiefs and part of the group that facilitated the AFL-NFL merger in 1966. When he saw his daughter bouncing a solid rubber ball around the house, he asked her what it was. "It's a super ball, daddy," was the reply. And, as a "bowl game" had come to mean an important post-season game in the college ranks, Hunt suggested the name to Rozelle and the NFL. They didn't go for it at first, but the informal name stuck and the third one was officially called "Super Bowl III". It was favored by sportswriters who didn't like saying "Third NFL-AFL Championship Game" constantly.

The trophy wasn't given a name until Super Bowl V, when it was called the Vince Lombardi Memorial Trophy, after the deceased former head coach of the Packers and Redskins. Unlike many other trophies, the Lombardi Trophy isn't a traveling trophy; the NFL makes copies of it for each Super Bowl.

Not true, each year a new O'Brien Trophy is awarded for the NBA Finals champion and a new Commissioner's Trophy is awarded to the World Series champion. Only the Stanley Cup doesn't get remade yearly.
