Calvin Harris is a '90s kid. I know nothing else about him though.

Yes. He has a song which I think might even be called 'Born In The 80s.' I don't even want to dignify it with a Google because I hate it so much.

To be fair, everyone I've ever dated has been born in the '80s.

If we're talking literally only dated, I've got... three from the 80s, and then four from the 90s?

Almost everyone I've dated has been born in the 80s. 2 were born in the 70s. 90s would just feel to weird for me!!

And I'll pipe in on the "90s kid" thing. I'm pretty sure that the reason it's phrased that way is because we were kids in the 90s. So, technically we're not "80s kids", we're "80s babies". :-P

I do find it kind of funny, apart from the fact that the chaplain is trying very hard to be polite and understanding and the father is being pretty rude. I'm not so much bothered by the anti-religious jokes as by the meanness. The Bloggess does a much better job of responding politely but hilariously to ridiculous letters.

But then, Frankie Boyle was always my favourite Mock the Week participant. So, it's not as if this was news to me.

I was trying to find the best example of the Bloggess's PR responses but got sidetracked just reading through her blog. I dunno, I just feel it's unnecessary to be quite so aggressively rude to someone for just doing their job.

I don't know. I feel the pre-ticked box might have send the father over the edge, in this respect. It would piss me off too. Just a guess. But honestly I don't find his responses all that rude. Not as rude as going around to people's houses and bothering them with the good word.

But that is a whole other thread and one to which I'm no longer invited.

I do find it kind of funny, apart from the fact that the chaplain is trying very hard to be polite and understanding
It wasn't polite or understanding to send that notice out with "yes" pre-ticked, especially when he admits that he noticed the error after printing, but apparently couldn't be bothered to fix it, and sent them out anyway, and offers not a trace of an apology. His claim that there is no indoctrination in a play put on by a church group in which "the true meaning of Easter will be explained" is questionable. Let's be honest, they're not going to say it's all about the bunnies and chocolate eggs, are they?

Having said all that, I didn't think the Dad is nearly as funny as I suspect he does, and it's kind of like shooting fish in a barrel. I don't think either man came out of that especially well.

Hm, I do agree that pre-ticking the box was very much out of line, but I can't fault a chaplain for considering the true meaning of Easter to be the death of Jesus. That's kind of his job.

He's also not a chaplain, we don't have official positions like that at public schools any more. I found it quite amusing, and lost it on "purportedly magic jew".

And as the dad pointed out, he shouldn't have. Also, he mentioned that the dad could have just checked the "I do not wish my child to attend"...but then both boxes would be checked, and he would be both allowing and not allowing his child to attend.

Personally I'm a little annoyed a Christian fairy tale play is an official field trip. That's no good at all. If you're going to have Jesus in schools keep in a comparative religions class where it belongs.

I dunno, I think schools ought to take field trips to different religious places and events. Just focusing on one religion is wrong though.

Sure. Under the auspices of a comparative religion class, preferably taught by an atheist or agnostic so you get some fair representation, and even then education would be better served by observing high mass then a church play. Those things should honestly count as Geneva Conventions violations.

Just focusing on one religion is wrong though.
Exactly, especially if the trip is explicitly stating that this is the "real" story, which is their way of saying that this is the "correct" religion. At first I was confused with the dad because from the nature of the trip I figured it had to be a religious private school, so why would he send his kid there if he didn't believe or want his kid to? Then I got to the part where it's mentioned as a public school and I was pretty shocked.

The sad thing is, this shit happens all the time in public schools in Australia.
When I was in year 9, our principal made the entire school go to an "Easter Assembly" at a local church where the motherfucker screened the fucking crucifixion scene from Passion of the Christ. He gave no warning as to what would be at the assembly, and the kids whose parents opted out (Because it's opt out RE, what even) were all stuck in the detention room for a few hours whilst everyone else was at the assembly.

They tried to, as far as I can remember. But nothing ever came of it. The douchebag principal was fired on an unrelated matter later that year anyway. I would have opted out but I was part of the school choir, so I *had* to be there.

Anyway, this thread is becoming less and less pointless by the minute.
