Actually, that Cat worries me.

Usually, a Cat would eventually figure out it's not real

No scent from the Statue
No sound from same
No movement when knocked
Solid or semi-solid 'Feel'

I have to wonder about that Cats mental state from the start.

It's the little details in that cosplay pic that really sell it, like the Sgt. Rock comic in the Hawkins cosplayer's pack.

Physics (well, mechanics, really).

Imagine a bucket with a rope looped over a pulley and both ends tied to the handle - easy, right?  Now take one of those ends and use it to support a board under the bucket - same thing, really, and both ends of the rope are still contributing equally to holding the bucket up.  This is just the same with multiple buckets and the boards joined into one.

I don't understand the question. I didn't understand how the buckets were keeping the table up - I wondered if there were magnets involved. Paul has explained and I can see how it works but I still find it surprising.

I think it makes more sense if you see that the table is actually holding the buckets up.

It's moderately interesting, because the weight of the buckets is pulling the table up to be under the buckets. The length of string is just set correctly so it's taught and there isn't any slack.

As soon as I saw the string being connected to the table first... it kinda ruined it for me :/

Nah, if the string was any shorter the whole contraption would just be further off the ground, it can't be slack at all.

Exactly :)

No matter the length of the string, it'll be either just higher or lower. As long as all strings are the same length.

Now... if the table wasn't tied in the center... that would be interesting. that's what I thought it was at first.. and thought buckets were holding up the table with suction from the bottom of the buckets :)

Surely the buckets have to be heavy enough to be holding the table up, so it is really the buckets that hold up the table? If the buckets were light they'd be up by the ceiling and the table would be down by the floor.

Exactly.  It's easier to visualise if you picture the buckets in the air, and the table on the other end of the ropes.  If the buckets are heavier, they pull the table up until it is stuck under them.

I couldn't help laughing as they were telling the guy they thought his lighter skin tone was from the chocolate. I can't decide if that makes me a bad person or not.

There was also a link at the end of the vid to this fascinating piece.

How much do you think a Hershey bar costs in local currency in Ivory Coast? What do you think the wages are like for the gentlemen in the video?

well, the narrator said that a chocolate bar costs 2 euros, & alfonse earns 7 per day, with which to take care of 15 family members & 4 workers. so i'd guess not very good.

personally, i'm kind of charmed at how cheerful these guys are, considering the circumstances.

edit: apparently, their local currency is the West African CFA franc, with 1 euro = 656.51 as of today. so a chocolate bar would cost them 1313.02 CFA Francs.

i have no idea how that compares to the cost of other goods & services they spend their money on, but it sounds like a lot.
