I find it hard to believe that there are only three devices in Greenland that will respond to a ping from wherever this map is based.

There's more then three dots on Greenland, check the coast line, it's also a hot map.

It feels to me, from my limited experience and worldview, that the Windsor-Quebec corridor is a densely populated area.  In fact, it's over 1100km long, a couple of hundred kilometers wide, and contains 18 million people.

Which is less than a drop in the bucket.

Yes, but that also happens to be over half the population of Canada.

Actually it's not when you look at it. Much of Japan is still rural, and the populations in those areas aren't usually super high tech, similar to a lot of the more rural parts of the United States, even in the cities a lot of internet access is achieved via cell phone, which this guy said his methodology wouldn't pick up. It's also worth considering that, despite Western perception, a lot of Japan is still extremely low tech compared to a lot of the Western world, this includes in it's corporate culture and industry.

China has about 30 years at most before they hit two significant population sea changes, the oldest population in the world, and a steep population decline. Reversing the one child policy now just isn't going to be enough to fix the damage. International politics wise that's both good and bad. It means that in the near future the Pacific will quiet down because no one's scared of a paper tiger that can only gum you to death, but it also means there's pressure on the Chinese to accomplish aggressive foreign policy (Senkaku Islands, anything to do with the independent nation of Taiwan, maybe snapping up Siberia if Putin doesn't watch his Easter borders too closely) needs to happen on an accelerated time table.

LOL! Someone's been reading way too much Tom Clancy.

On the other two issues there's some potential for trouble, but I'd rate this one very, very improbable. Especially as long as Mr. Putin pisses off America and its allies, and needs *ahem* pragmatic Chinese buyers for his gas, oil etc. so badly. Why invade, when you can buy the good stuff at bargain prices? China and Russia are not really friends by any means, but they need one another in their mutual antagonism to American global hegemony, which is all that they really have in common.

I endorse this idea; women with swords make everything better (though you can keep the sword & sorcery gear; even Sandahl Bergmann had trouble bringing off that look), but why should teenagers have all the fun?

....I now want NFL games to feature sword fights between teenage girls instead of... you know. Actual hand egg.
I endorse this idea; women with swords make everything better (though you can keep the sword & sorcery gear; even Sandahl Bergmann had trouble bringing off that look), but why should teenagers have all the fun?

Fair enough, I was just rolling with Blue's  reference. International Sword Fighting League, back your local team today! While we're doing that, let's get Senshado rolling too.

My friend recently bought a flat and on the wall of what is now her office is a huge, hand-painted children's mural full of different characters from fairy tales and cute scenes like farms or children playing in a park. It's a work of art and I'm so glad they didn't paint over it when they moved out!

There's this really handy "other thing" I'm going to write as a footnote to my abstract that I can probably explore these issues in. I think I'll call it my "dissertation."
