And an intelligent, articulate, passionate person who cares about an issue and has been asked to speak publicly on it. Precisely what would you say does give someone the right to make a speech about an important issue, GM?

There's this really handy "other thing" I'm going to write as a footnote to my abstract that I can probably explore these issues in. I think I'll call it my "dissertation."

Exactly

While some of them can act like complete twats (Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson anyone?), some of them actually have the intelligence to use their position to advance good causes.

Just because he/she is an actor/actress, doesn't automatically mean they haven't got more than two braincells to rub together - though I will admit some of them leave you wondering.

This may be a little too euclidean for this thread, but I believe that, unless you lead a truly extraordinary and superior life, have a great deal of meaningful insight and knowledge, and can make a very persuasive case... It's not very tactical to disparage someone else and what they do, esp when that person has demonstrably attained some significant level of success in many important aspects of life.

The reactions to the "false flag" operation weren't particularly funny, not simply because it was a dumb gimmick by a useless company but because we currently live in a world where it very well could have been for reals. stealing people's private info? For reals. Spreading women's nude photos on the Internet against their wishes for jerks to jerk off to and feel empowered by? For reals. Threatening women who date to speak up and take space? For reals. Punishing women who publicly make statements in support of feminism? For reals.

It's not particularly embarrassing to believe a plausible lie, nor is it particularly impressive of 4chan to figure out this "false flag operation". Peace

TRUE STORY
One morning, I was awakened by a knock at the door. I rolled out of bed, threw a blanket over my shoulder because it was cold, and made my way to the front of the house. I opened the door and a very nice lady of some sort of christian denomination handed me a pamphlet and launched in to a well-rehearsed spiel about accepting jesus in to my life when she stopped mid sentence and gave me a peculiar look. I used this pause in her speech to politely decline her offer and wish her a pleasant morning. It wasn’t until I looked at what she handed me that I understood why I stopped her in her tracks and then proceeded to laugh for the next half hour by myself.

the origons of Ouija boards are funny if you think about it like they’re part of an another country (China)’s ancient history that was practiced until one emporer decided “You know what this is probably a bad idea” and banned the practice.

then centuries later an old buisnessman comes along and is like “I’m going to take this and market it as a toy to children.”

Which is the exact plot of Yu-Gi-Oh

While 扶乩 (fújī) or "spirit writing" has a long history in China, it is more akin to "automatic writing" than the mechanically quite different ouija board. If you think about it, a Chinese-language ouija board would be quite impractical. It would have to be the size of a dinner-table and covered with thousands of characters.

Ah... Maybe they mean 碟仙 (diéxiān). That is a lot more like a ouija board, now I come to think of it. A sheet of paper is drawn with characters in a circular pattern, and a glass bowl is moved over it to "spell" the "messages". But I don't think that diéxiān was ever banned by any Emperor.

When I worked in a toy store a few years ago, a young couple bought a Ouija Board. About 3-4 hours later they brought it back. "It doesn't work."

I'd claim restraint in not saying anything while I processed the refund, but the truth was closer to stunned silence.
