Was meant to be sarcastic. You can't suffer from something you do yourself, i.e. shaving.

Nope, hence 'both.' I don't grow a great deal of body hair but I also trim a lot of what I have got anyway.

I've been very curious about this during the whole arc, since it seems so far-fetched: what the hell did Veronica say to Jim when she contacted him? How is that first email not incredibly awkward?

Also, at least Marten dated Vicky for two months before moving across the country.

Not to be ageist, but older couples tend to get together more quickly. When my Mom remarried, she got engaged after only knowing my stepdad for about 6 months. Its a bit more exaggerated here, but I kind of feel that when you're older, you are more quick to settle down, especially if you've already had a long term marriage/kids.

Plus VV was looking to retire anyway. She doesn't seem to have too much tying her to California aside from clients and other people in the scene. Moving to the town where her son lives doesn't seem like too far fetched an idea, regardless of the Jim situation, but that certainly doesn't hurt.

She's just appeared once since the artstyle/layout changed. The scrawnier characters look less like 15 year olds than they used to.

  • What.

This seems out of character for Jim. He hasn't shown this kind of impulsiveness before, has he?

He decided it was a great idea to retain Faye as a qualified babysitter because she taught his daughter how to make an alcoholic beverage.

I think it's fair to say Jim has demonstrated less-than-calculated decision-making in the past.

Aside from shifts in drawing style, most women tinker with their hair a lot. I like that Jeph isn't afraid to change things up in the hair/clothes/glasses style/whatever, it helps make the characters more real and likeable for me.

Funny how a good lay can make you want to change...your entire life.
This may have been her first romantic encounter since the divorce, which would make it her first romantic encounter with someone who is interested in her gender in possibly decades.

True.  She alluded to being very lonely at the wedding so she was probably looking to stop fooling around and actually settle down.

Personally, I'm looking forward to Marten's mom becoming a more regular character.

Who says she'll be regular? We don't see much of the Secret Bakery as it is...

I think the reason we haven't seen much of the Secret Bakery is that it wouldn't have done much 'til now to advance the story. Dora's got Tai, Padma's presumably still in Cali, and the SB's arrangement with COD is pretty much on autopilot by now (how many times would we have needed to see Elliot dropping off baked goods and picking up beans?). Now that VV has come out to meet Jim, it's likely that they'll have their own subplot and we'll see more of Veronica, Jim and Sam at the very least, though it also leaves the door open for more Secret Bakery shenanigans.

Gah.  I hate the term "Cali" almost as much as I hate the term "Frisco".  Abominable words that have no place in the English language.  Then again, I'm one of those folks who regards Emperor Norton as a saint (Second-Class, of course 'cos he's real).

In either case, just a useful shorthand. Cf. "Goin' Back to Cali" (or, for Frisco, see "Who Needs the Peace Corps").
