Hmmmmmmmmm.  I just noticed that I have spent 364 days, 12 hours, and 42 mnutes on this forum.

And made 2506 posts.

I am not sure just exactly what this means, though, except for spending a lot of time here.
Wow, much more than me. 136:05:31.
For each of my posts I've spent a little under 14 minutes on the forum.

It's an admittedly silly principle, but a principle nonetheless, I refuse to use the stupid new* spelling of the Sci-Fi Channel. Yes, I get the trademark reasons for changing your name, but "Syfy" is just atrocious.

*Well I guess it's not that new anymore.

I had to look up Diggnation to know what it was (so no...) though I did watch TechTV back when it was a thing.

It was pretty good at the time, not sure how it would hold up since they talked a bunch about tech at the time, which is now, of course, outdated, but the hosts were good. Just a few days ago started listening to Half Hour Happy Hour with Alison Haislip and Alex Albrecht, so it's kind of been in the back of my mind recently.

In German the horse's-head chess-piece called "knight" in English is called Springer.

Been browsing through this site - http://www.dictionaryofobscuresorrows.com/ - Basically they're creating new words for emotions that don't currently have them.

Some of my favorites, because they're ones I have frequently:

Lachesism - the desire to be struck by disaster—to survive a plane crash, to lose everything in a fire, to plunge over a waterfall—which would put a kink in the smooth arc of your life, and forge it into something hardened and flexible and sharp, not just a stiff prefabricated beam that barely covers the gap between one end of your life and the other.

Exulansis - the tendency to give up trying to talk about an experience because people are unable to relate to it—whether through envy or pity or simple foreignness—which allows it to drift away from the rest of your life story, until the memory itself feels out of place, almost mythical, wandering restlessly in the fog, no longer even looking for a place to land.

Sonder - the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own.

And the most common obscure sorrow I deal with: jouska - a hypothetical conversation that you compulsively play out in your head—a crisp analysis, a cathartic dialogue, a devastating comeback—which serves as a kind of psychological batting cage where you can connect more deeply with people than in the small ball of everyday life, which is a frustratingly cautious game of change-up pitches, sacrifice bunts, and intentional walks.

What's cool is that the words all have etymologies, which means that while 'made up' by one person they are in another sense as real as any other word in the English language. Lachesism, for example, refers to Lachesis, the second of the three Fates in Greek mythology, who would determine your destiny and the length of your life.

The distinction between made-up and real words is totally arbitrary anyway. If you invent a word and define it, it becomes as real as any other word.

Yes. As long as a word is defined and used, it's perfectly cromulent. Even if spell-check hasn't been embiggened to contain it.

Except for 'conundrum!'

I'm an etymology nerd, and this is one of my favorite words. No one knows where it comes from. At one point, people tried to figure it out, but stopped when they realized how apt it is that they don't know!

Or I had read so, anyway. My internet is preventing me from double-checking...

Etymology is FUN!

Self-esteem is dumb.

Agreed. I assume everyone has this because I naturally sound sarcastic, so I end up repeatedly telling people I'm not, which I know just makes me sound like more an asshole 90% of the time, but I don't know a better way. Besides, 10% of the time, it works everytime.

Speaking of haircuts, I got my most recent at a  school of hairdressing where I learned that, by a technicality, every haircut I've ever had has been illegal. Apparently, they're supposed to try and strangle you with toilet paper every time?

I could explain better, but that's just a fucking hilarious way to put it

I ended up getting my regular haircut. As for a jewfro, that's just what kinda happens on its own when my hair gets long enough. A jewhawk is a jewfro, but only down the middle and the rest buzzed.
