Every now and then, I go through a songwriting drought and I worry. During such droughts, I often find myself accidentally rewriting my own worst songs, or as has happened lately, accidentally lifting entire chord progressions or lyric ideas from bands that I love.

This drives me crazy, and to try and avoid such in the future, I have written a list to myself of the subject matter of some of the songs that my best friend and I have written together or that I have by myself (including his is kinda pointless since it's about my self-assessed artistic merit on this occasion), to try to remind myself that I'm not always a complete hack.

Song subjects have included:
(click to show/hide)

And that's just missing out songs of mine that I do love but have less original subject matter. I think some days I need to look at this list a bit more closely.

Then again, my sense of smell is basically gone, but I figure it's one of the less important ones.
I couldn't disagree more. Then again, maybe that's because my sense of smell is really good. My sight's pretty good and my hearing's ok, I guess, but my sense of smell is as far as I can tell way above average. It also gives me more enjoyment than sight or sound, probably (although I can't imagine parting with any of them).

Well, IIRC, those of us who aren't blind receive about 70% of their sensory information through sight.  There's a lot too with hearing.  I have problems being touched, so I won't get into that sense, but as far as they go, smell is fairly expendable.  I can even be a good cook without it, though I do have to taste all the time.  And I know that my ability to taste is weakened by my weak sense of smell.  Still, if I'm going to nuke one sense, the one I get from my nose is the one to go.

Slightly disappointed Welu didn't tell my doctor story.

I can resize a pixel graphics picture of double resolution to 50%, which halves the image size while the actual detail remains unchanged. Why can't I do the same with a video?

Exactly. But I can tell Paint.net to shrink an image and it'll combine all those 4x4 pixels into a single one, but when I tell my recording software (MSI Afterburner) to shrink this recording, it becomes a smudged, unreadable mess. Is there a video analogue to this kind of downscaling?

Video compression is inherently more compressed and lossier.  So there's less information present in the source material prior to resizing it.

Video compression is inherently more compressed and lossier.  So there's less information present in the source material prior to resizing it.

In this case I'm trying to configure the capture software to record in a lower resolution without compromising the quality of the video, which doesn't seem possible unless I directly manipulate the resolution of the frame it's being captured from. I guess that's to be expected, given that video recording is too intensive to be able to accurately blend blocks of identical pixels on the fly.

Another random thought: I wonder if public domain porn exists.

I hope this is the right place to post this, but if it isn't, oh well. I need to say this.

I really enjoy reading this forum. You guys don't throw hate around, and if something does happen that is offensive, the mods and members are not quick to be incredibly angry. Instead, everyone here is pretty civil and more than willing to explain things- whether it be about forum rules, or sexuality, or music or vegan-ism- it doesn't matter what the topic is. Everyone is okay expressing their own opinions (from what I've seen so far).

This is a pretty cool place to hang out, even if, as a member, you don't post too often and just like to read what other people say. So thanks to everyone for just being awesome dudes and ladies.  :-)

Something weird and a bit alarming just happened! I was sitting on my bed wrapped in the blanket that I sleep under, and realised I could hear buzzing like a bluebottle or a wasp. It sounded like it was behind me, and a bit muffled, so I thought maybe it was behind the bed between the side of the bed and the wall. I got off the bed to look behind the headboard and realised I could still hear the buzzing behind me, even though I'd turned 180 degrees and moved. So I took the blanket off and shook it... and a wasp flew out. Eek! I managed to catch it in a glass and put it out of the window, and to be honest I couldn't see a sting so I wonder if it was actually not a wasp but something very similar in appearance. But still. A wasp in my blanket! And all my windows are shut! How did it get in?!
