I'm more interested in why anyone would need their partners consent to masturbate.

For those who may have self-esteem or jealousy issues - if you discover your partner masturbating to pornography without your prior consent or awareness, which is more insulting:
- A porn star who looks a whole lot like you but, and heavy emphasis on the quotation marks here, 'sexier'
- A porn star who looks absolutely nothing like you?

I've been thinking about this lately (no idea why) and it occurred to me that maybe it's actually less offensive for the porn star to bear no resemblance, because that implies there's lust there but no love, whereas if the porn star does look like you, there's an implication that your partner has a 'type' but you're not good enough/sexy enough for them.

Obviously these are all largely irrational and unhealthy thought processes, but hey, that don't mean they don't happen, amirite?

The former. That strikes me as REALLY insulting actually.

I don't see porn as an insult at all - it's porn. It's like watching a movie being taken as insulting. There are tons of things that happen in porn that I may or may not want to happen in real life, but the point is that I'm watching something to jerk off to, not something I actually think will happen.

I'd use a calculator for that. My weekend job involves doing lots of counting and recounting and I always do it on the calculator, at least twice, to be safe, even if it's like "1.5 - .5".

Yeppers. Zoe thinks I should aim for exclusive markets as far as custom arms goes, which is doable, but I'm sure local laws in Upsidedown land will make that "fun". However the big issue is it's nearly impossible for me to immigrate down under unless I have an employer down there sponsoring me or I marry me an Aussie girl. So moving to start a company is nearly impossible... though there is an Aussie tradition of their ladies liking Uncle Sam's Misguided Children and our squidly brethren so I may have a leg up there :P

My country's leader just decided to lower the taxes for super rich people and screw over disabled people by giving them a lot less subsidies (my country is Norway, by the way).

Then again, at least the rich are taxed and at least disabled people get subsidies... It's just heading slowly in the wrong direction.

Politicians jostling to be the worst...  It seems that a member of the UK government was secretly recorded recently arguing that some disabled people weren't worth giving the statutory minimum wage.

Come to 'Straya, GM! The only gun-nuts we have here are crazy/stupid, it'd be nice to have a (moderately) rational one down here  :emotrex: :emotrex: :emotrex:

A reminder that I'm a moderate if not a bit left of center on about everything BUT guns.

The first thing I'd do is write the head of the current pro gun types and tell him I believe in keeping what I kill and challenge him to a trial of possession for his or her position. My life's work would then be adding a Class M permit to Aussie gun permitting. A Class M would be comparable to a Class C permit requirements wise but be specifically for a list of military surplus firearms, including historically relevant semi-autos (Currently only obtainable under a D permit) such as the M1 Garand, and military sidearms ranging from the 1911 to the Webley Service Revolver. (Why yes, I have actually been investigating moving down under for a long while, how did you know?*)

So that'd piss a lot of people off whether I'm successful or not. :P

I'd also need to find a way to work two jobs. Gunsmithing (Cause, y'know, kinda my trade) and pest control in the outback so I can get my Class D permit.

*Also having looked into moving to several nations, any one bitching about how draconian U.S. Immigration law is needs to be subjected to the fish slapping dance. It's easy as hell to come here in comparison. :psyduck:

Doesn't Norway have one of the highest tax burdens in the world for EVERYONE?

America's is actually pretty harsh on our top 10%

Sauce: http://statlinks.oecdcode.org/812008051P1T013.XLS

Is it fair for the rich, rich though they might be to pay more in taxes than their percentage of their total share of income, higher than many European nations, where the rich pay a bit fairer amount of their fair share (An amount of taxes equal to their percentage of total income, that is to say the top 10% of country x receive 25% of the country's total income per annum, paying 25% of the country's total taxes is therefore is an equitable and "fair" share. Of course where things usually get crossed up is capital gains tax, which is different from income tax and could probably use some reform

Yeah we pay a lot of income taxes here, and it works like a charm and almost everyone are happy. The richest people who are not happy all move abroad to avoid it, so whatever. The way they did the reductions in Norway this time was to give everyone the exact same percentage to pay less. So if you have a low income, you pay a couple hundred dollars less in taxes a year, and if you're rich, you pay millions less a year. That hardly seems fair to me, and not to a lot of rich people either. My father is in a high income bracket group, happily paying 40% - 50% of his income every year. A lot of rich people have stated in the media that they'll give what they've "gained" to charities, they want to pay taxes.

Also I don't think the anecdotal description works that well for Norway at least (maybe people really are that selfish in the states, I don't know), I've never met anyone who's actually reacted that way. Seems like it's fairly similar to what just happened in Norway, and no one are mad at the "rich guy", they're all mad at the government... or the bartender, it that story, I guess. It's not about people being mad because rich people are richer, it's about people being mad because where will the money the government needs to support us come from now?Since the government are getting a lot less in taxes from people, what'll happen to the hospitals, roads, libraries and other public institutions? And taking money from people who can't work at all is the icing on the cake, really.

This isn't Discuss though, so that's probably it for now.

Yeah probably. I'm a big fan of keeping taxes low, but then I think I know how to spend my money better than other people spending it for me, and hold the radical opinion that you are entitled to the sweat of your brow. I also consider the United States government criminally incompetent at any task other than stealing at gunpoint, than wasting my money. Welcome to your new home Metope.

I think people in the states have more reason to be mad about paying taxes than Norwegians too, in Norway at least you can see where the money is going. In America you have to pay for health care, public schools are shit, taxing kind of doesn't really work because it actually looks like the government are just taking money you've worked hard for and putting it in their own pocket. It would work better if you actually noticed in your day to day life that you were getting something back.

...fuck what am I doing with my life  :-(

I think I know how to spend my money better than other people spending it for me, and hold the radical opinion that you are entitled to the sweat of your brow.

Yebbut, this only works if there is a mechanism that means the polluter pays.

Here I am working in an intervention programme for high risk domestic violence and if, there were lower taxes, I don't see a lot of people volunteering their cash to fund the programme. Alas victims are rarely in a position to drop the kind of money needed to keep this sort of programme running. The catch comes that intervention programmes across the board almost always cost less than their absence. Alas this kind of financial system really isn't understood but the public at large and the topic is a bit more uncomfortable than they want to hear about in a pitch for their cash.

So under your system, my ass is going to be out of a job and, because of the nature of my current job, I've become a bit toxic to the private sector. So can I have some welfare please? Oh, and all of the other people funded by public money in positions that are a bit less sexy than fire services and roads infrastructure building and maintenance.

I didn't say no taxes, or social programs, just minimal. The reality is your job is privatized in many places functioning as a paid service or charity. People DO pay for it even now.  I mean I got told to fuck off by them for the crime of being a male victim but they do exist an manage just fine.

Much of government is work government has created for itself and takes great pleasure in charging us for, the work is only required because our government has the pleasure of making it do.

So in media whenever you see a woman wrap a towel around herself after bathing it usually looks like this:

Towel meets around the cleavage area, but the thing that's bugging me is the towel is straight. The meeting point is totally vertical.

I have never been able to wrap a towel like that around myself, whether it meets in the middle of my chest or to my side, the meeting point ends up really slanted. Is this just a prominent boob thing or does media just hate slanted lines? Although I notice in both those images the women are holding the top of the towel so they probably aren't actually tucked and if they let go the towel wouldn't stay. Or I just don't know how to wrap myself in a towel.

Metope, at least your country's leader isn't threatening to literally crash tackle Vlad the Impaler...
Tony Abbott vs. Vladimir Putin has a certain appeal. I mean... Triathlete and university boxer vs. KGB-trained hard man? We might get a new PM out of it. Horrorshow!

Say what you like but there's been some real questioning of content going on here, lately.

Never really been comfortable with the (humourous?) notion of killing politicians.  Even if their politics are terrible, they're generally people, with families and such.

Maybe I'm just squeamish.

Besides, you never know what killing a politician unleashes. Someone killed a fairly prominent politician here more than a decade ago and we're still dealing with the fall-out.

Mind you, he as a wanker, so I personally don't miss him ...
