with all the computerized shit and techno-babble I deal with every day,
sometimes, opening a printed book and relaxing to read, is one of the best ways I know to unwind.

complexity can be a disease.  at the least, a condition.

Just realized that a person on OKCupid whose profile I repeatedly visited knows me in real life and I haven't recognized her.

AWKWARD. She was all "oh, I know who you are!" when we last met.

The sign at the supermarket next to the eggs said "gluten free".

What's next?

Gluten free gasoline? Gluten free concrete blocks? Gluten free electrical conduit? Gluten free nuclear weapons?

Maybe it's because assholes who don't bother finding out what gluten actually is/does kept asking about it?

That, or somehow we've been injecting gluten into things without my knowledge.

there are two companies (one bread, one dairy) where i live that have taken the light hearted approach of advertising their milk and bread as free range.

Maybe the 'de-' was left out so that defecation and urination have the same number of syllables.

Those who are engaged in creative endeavors,

Have you ever had an idea for a song/painting/story/play [what it is in my case], etc. that was so depressing that you absolutely don't want to write it. But then you feel like because it gives you that response that's all the more reason to go through with it?

Yes, and yes. Hasn't always been my best stuff, mind you, but it was worth doing -- and worth coming back to some time later to see what my mind was telling me, which wasn't always apparent at the time. Besides, having had creative blocks that've lasted for long periods of time, I don't tend to turn my nose up at ideas when I do get them, even if they don't always come from a happy place.

The art takes you where it takes you, and only you as the creator know whether that's right. It's your call whether you let it take you there.

But yeah, I write some dark shit, and that is often my best shit.

For a sketchbook entry in my sophomore art class, I drew something that was really really dark. I was inspired partly by the creepy stuff I was reading in Hi-Fructose but also a lot of it was the fact that I was an angsty teenager who had a lot of emotions

But looking back on all the art I have ever done, I liked making that drawing than any sketch of still life. That crap destroys my soul

I think what dr. nervioso says gets to something else, 94ssd. A lot of it's going to come down to what feels right to you. If it makes you uncomfortable, examine where the discomfort comes from. If it's uncomfortable because it's forcing you to take yourself and your work somewhere you've never been, that can be a good thing. If, on the other hand, you feel uncomfortable because you'd feel like you're working within a form, medium, or subject that doesn't fit because it's not you or not the right reasons, you may just end up resenting yourself later. If it comes from an authentic place and you approach it in a spirit of openness and honesty, it's worth doing. If not... well, that's really a call only you can make.

What's with everyone asking for a like button? It's a voted-on agreement that we only have like buttons in the Comic Subfora.

I put the Like button in the forum where it seemed most useful, as an extended test.  I have given no recent thought to whether it should be removed, be extended to (some?) other forums, or stay as is.  I also have no intention of further changing how it operates.

If people want to discuss the future of the Like button, then it's probably best to continue in the previous thread to keep stuff together.  I've changed the poll there accordingly.

Those mythical beings exist, but their appearance has been subverted. They were supposed to appear after a late night of partying, when you're heading to the friendly neighbourhood bakery for some sweets to bring home.

Now this morning people and their waking up super early. Disgusting.

I've mostly been going to bed around 6am, which is particularly troublesome because I start my new job soon and there's a 7am wake up for that. As far as today goes, I ate breakfast and then took a 3 hour nap. So I guess was still tired, just more hungry.

When you tore it to pieces would you find a hard boiled egg inside?

Only if you boiled it, and only if it was in the process of laying an egg when you threw it into the pot.

Surely the egg would be cooked no matter how the chicken was cooked?
A chicken lays one egg every day give or take some hours.
As soon as it's laid one egg it's started on the next. So the chances are good that there'll be one inside.

I just got the image of a midwife and a woman giving birth swinging towards each other on a trapeze - when they meet, the midwife pulls the baby out. The knife juggler is standing on the floor and cuts the umbilical cord with a a knifethrow.
