Nightowls
« on: 04 Jul 2014, 00:21 »

Two months off work and I'm still living on third shift, just foolin' around in the garage and listening to the neighborhood coyotes. We got any other night folks around here?

I am most definitely a night owl, especially on a weekend and ESPECIALLY if I'm with my girlfriend.

My sleep schedule is still pretty effed up. I usually manage to get into getting up early again, when the next exercise sheet is due and I stay up until 11 am. Then follows almost a week of moving around the clock, sometimes even with going to bed at 4pm and getting up at midnight.

I don't really think I have a sleep schedule anymore at this point.

But when I'm not forced into staying up because of exercise sheets I usually go to bed at around 7 am.

Pretty much any time I don't have work or school or something to keep me on a "normal" sleep schedule, I tend to naturally slip into a fully nocturnal one within a few days.

I suspect that I might actually be a vampire.

It's half midnight and my next (last) bus leaves in half an hour. I am tired and unproductive.

"Half midnight" presumably means 2330 for you, though it means 0030 for me.

Working 10 pm to 6 am, I know exactly what you mean about never really knowing what day it is. I dread the day I forget it's Sunday and don't show up at church...

*blinks* Waitwhat. That's a weird way to put a time.
(I ended up not getting the bus and walking home at 1. It was okay, though, since a few other people had to walk into the same direction).

"Half <hour>" is short for "half past <hour>" in English usage.  Knowing that it's the other way around for you is something I was taught in German lessons at school.

But then by that logic "half twelve" would be six, right?  It's idiom; IOW it is what it is.

01:30.
It is at these hours when I am alone and am not talking with anyone that I am either tidying my room like mad or am basically wallowing in selfpity. (Lack of sleep also facilitates dark thoughts.)

I also sometimes am more prone to creeping out myself when I have a lack of sleep (like being afraid of my own silhouette in the mirror when lights are off.) It has gotten better, though. When I was on my medication, there were one or two times when I was literally startled by my shadow appearing where I was not expecting it.

I approve of Noxx's attempts to actually post on here. Too many of t3h n00bz don't really join in with the forums at all after their introductory post. We need more folks like LJFelix and Garand who actually show themselves.

when the next exercise sheet is due and I stay up until 11 am.

But in fact I'm just tired as shit, and the bad thing is that there's another exercise sheet due tomorrow. So yeah, I'll be awake the next night as well. But after that I'm basically through with my mandatory exercise sheets for this semester.

Just got home from my late night coffee and book ritual. As previously mentioned, the wife and the dogs are dead asleep. The dogs of course, have commandeered my side of the bed.

If this sounds like a simple problem to you, you have clearly never tried to relocate a comatose, snoring, and possibly flatulent 100lb American Bulldog. The guy who coined the phrase "Let sleeping dogs lie" had a gassy bulldog, I guarantee it.

Instead I'm out at my garage desk with the door open bein' generally creepy, and trying to weird out my neighbors. A guys gotta have a hobby.

It's just weird that I'm not considered noob if Garand still is. He joined before I did.

Anyway, coming back to topic:

I got myself some earplugs and OH MY GOD I SLEEP SO WELL WITH THEM.  I almost didn't hear my alarm clock, but it went "WHY DO YOU HATE ME" and turned the volume ALL THE WAY UP, so I managed to notice i.

I didn't wake when my PC randomly woke itself up from sleep mode (it does that sometimes. I'm convinced my PC is possessed).

Coming up on 2300 local time, been asleep since about 1400.

Right now it's about 50% residual schedule, and 50% that it's too damn hot to do anything but hide out in the AC while the suns up. Cleared 100 today (38 degrees for the rest of you)
