Iron Banner is back and I don't give a damn about it, all I care about is the newest Splatfest coming to Splatoon with Autobots vs. Decepticons

Now to actually play Splatoon....

Guess I'm the only one who loves steam?

These days I have less issues with it, and the precedent it set has made it so that games are constantly being put online, games you'd have to hunt down a physical copy of otherwise, obscure ones, famous ones, overlooked gems. It has, overall, been good for the industry.

But at the time, it was updating CONSTANTLY for multiple days in a row, for hours at a time. It was crashing all the time. It messed with how servers for Counter Strike and TFC, my games of choice at the time, would be set up.

And most idiotically - this might still be the case now - you had to boot Steam up to play a game offline. You had to connect to the internet, in order to set it running in offline mode, before you could play a game that you already owned on disc. At the time my internet was shaky, so I would play something like Half Life if my internet was down, but it wouldn't let me, because it was constantly crashing and updating and wouldn't boot up, so I couldn't boot it up to connect to the internet so that I could set it offline and then play Half Life.

Yeah, they worked out the kinks - eventually. Now it is one of the best things to ever happen to gaming. But back in, when was it, 2004? It was like giving my computer herpes.

Yeah as someone who used to live in the country (i.e. with satellite internet  :psyduck: ), Steam always used to give me the shits with having to be online, not least because it always wanted to update.

For those of y'all who use XBOnes, Any idea when the 360 backwards compatibility is coming out for all consoles (not just for Preview members)?

Ok, so I got my Xbone a week ago, and instantly downloaded The Witcher 3.

My God this game is good. Why were noone here talking about this game when it was new? It is seriously in contention for the best game I've ever played(!). I'm slightly biased, having read the books, but seriously.. The game is huge, but still has so much detail and so many unique, fleshed out side quests. The writing is great, the story is very interesting in terms of tying in to the books, the graphics and design is superb. Like, the only bad things I can say is that the menu and item systems are a bit clunky and long loading times (tho they are rare if you don't die/reload much), but that's pretty much it.

WipEout Pulse's "Outpost 7" is the worst piece of level design I have ever come across. Which is sad in a game so full of addicting tracks, like Arc Prime, or Amphiseum, or Vertica, or even Fort Gale.

So... I do most of my gaming on PC. But I would really like very much to play Bloodborne, which is a PS4 exclusive. I'm not all that familiar with any other games on PS4 that are exclusive or better on the console than PC... Can anybody come up with a recommendation on getting a PS4 besides Bloodborne? Because I really can't justify to myself paying $450 to play one game.

Unfortunately Infamous 1 and 2 are PS3 games, and the PS4 isn't backwards comparable. There is a new PS4 sequel to Infamous out though. I did fine a couple of other games that are PS4 exclusive that I've an interest in. So I'm still considering a maybe. If I hadn't bought a blue ray player last year, I'd be more interested in the entertainment aspects of a PS4. But as it is, that box can do all the movie watching and streaming a PS4 can, and I already own it...

The Humble Bundle end of summer sale has been on for a few days and I ran out of HDD space. When I bought this PC, I thought that I wouldn't even need a 500GB disk, but that was the smallest I could get. Uy...

You can get an extra 1TB for like 50 bucks these days (as an external HDD). Across my PC and laptop, I've got about 9TB space (not including external storage devices), and most of that is full :/

It's funny. I was reading an old Cyberpunk supplement the other day, from 1992. There was an advertisement for a 'super advanced hand held computer'. With a whopping 6MB of RAM and a 500MB hard drive. Oh those old future predictions are so adorable. :)

I have 500 GB and I can't actually imagine using that much. Granted, I don't use my laptop for gaming very often as I am a member of the inferior console race. With the full backup from my old computer, the Windows 10 install, and a small collection of games, I have 356 left.

Also got the Shovel Knight expansion Plague of Shadows and I'm slowly going through that. I haven't played Shovel Knight in awhile so it's a little hard for me to get into.

I played Plague of Shadows as well. It felt a lot harder than Shovel Knight because you have exponentially more options regarding your loadout. With Shovel Knight it was just armor and relic, with Plague Knight it's those plus three bomb components and a flavour of blast jump. It makes adapting your loadout to the situation a lot more interesting, but it also creates challenges Shovel Knight never had to face. I did finish it in relatively little time, so it can't be that much harder, but be prepared for a whole lot of dying nonetheless.

Picked up a few games for super cheap that I've been dying to play for the XBone -

- Dead Rising 3 because hilarity,

- Shadow of Mordor because I've been waiting literally a year to play it,

- Borderlands Handsome Collection because I gave my 360 away with all my Borderlands games so it'll be good to play them again.

Over the past few weeks I've taken up Wip3out (Or WipEout 3 Special Edition, for us European people) and Warframe, the first one because race gemu and the second one because someone recommended it.

On the first one: Feisar's trash. Actual trash. It has no top speed whatsoever, which given the somewhat realistic configuration of Wip3out's tracks makes it highly uncompetitive. And since there's no boost pickups, you have to waste your health on boost (kinda like you'd do on F-Zero), but it's also extremely flimsy, so you're basically on a suicide course through races. On the other hand, AG Systems gives you races for free (Icaras is faster on the top end, but also has worse acceleration and much worse shields. If you get to first place, however, you're gone). Sadly AG-Sys is the 6th ship and that's unlocked upon winning a gold medal with the 5 previous aircrafts (Feisar, Goteki45, Auricom Industries, Pirhana-Advancements and Qirex [Research & Development]), and to finish each class you have to get all 8 golds with all 8 crafts. Will take a while, specially if Feisar doesn't get any better.

Just put the Blackwell games to bed.

(click to show/hide)

Non-spoilered version: Narrative-focused point-and-click adventure game series using that grand old standby of the AGS engine. Several of the pitfalls you can expect of those words, though they managed to sidestep some. Worth a go, I'd say. If you're unsure, just drop money on the first one and see if you like it, since the rest are (refined and tinkered with, mind you) more of the same general idea. I seem to recall a decently-priced bundle of games 1-4 on Steam, though. Game 5 you still have to buy separately, unless there's something on the developer's website I'm not aware of.

I'm almost positive I have the original somewhere, I gotta play it properly. Back in the day I didn't really play shooters and also I associated with certain people who enjoyed sandboxing mayhem, so they just used the cheats to mass spawn 100 LAWs and so did I.

The original is conveniently on sale for peanuts as well. I did own a disc copy of it at some point but having it on Steam is well worth the €1,39.

I haven't forgotten about my quest for Wipeout 3 completion and I plan on getting a big chunk done this weekend. Probably finish Vector class and start with Venom class.

I loathe P-Mar Project already and I'm not using the fast classes of ships. The jump in the back straight is too long. Whose idea was that? And it's not fun the rest of the way either. Even Hi-Fumii's super-narrow tunnel is less sudden and more manageable, and the rest of the track is technical greatness. P-Mar Project is a collection of sudden slopes, left-right turns that are too close to each other, stupid jumps into those and a hairpin that scientists and scholars of all Mega-City are still wondering why the hell it's there.
For the classic tracks, some make sense and some don't, just like with the normal tracks. The start-finish straight of Gare d'Europa is too long and bumpy, nobody likes the Terramax tunnel and I still wonder why there isn't an Altima VII rollercoaster somewhere, but it's all great. Odessa Keys is probably the hardest track I've ever played on Wipeout (that I didn't consider cheap, like Pulse's Outpost 7 which is basically "oh look, we couldn't put this track in pure, let's put it on a completely different physics engine and see how it's a trainwreck") and the fact that I'm still wondering how to do pitch corrections doesn't help at all xD.

Icaras, Qirex[RD] and AG-Sys are so far ahead of the competition is not even funny. I wonder if that changes on higher speed classes. But just to give some context, the Vector class Icaras ship has a top speed on par with the Venom class Feisar.

See, I found Quiet to be one of the best characters in the series, not because of her clothes or that she was ridiculously overpowered (use her right and she was a freaking demon in a mission). But I think it has to do with how you learn about her story and the reasons behind it. I think this also helped, when you hear that the developers agree with it.

But so far, as someone who just spottily spectates, it's all "Quiet, no. No Quiet. Stop...no put that back. Oh okay yeah, that's totally how you recon an enemy camp, nothing suspicious about that. Okay now shoot, Quiet. Quiet why are you not shooting..."

PROGRESS UPDATE: Venom tracks unlocked. Feisar is still trash. Although somehow I made it through all the classic league tracks first try, which is great.

Venom ships are quite a bit faster than Vector ships, excellent. Some tracks become harder because of this, but for some reason some are slightly easier. Namely Porto Kora and Talon's Reach - very simple and fast tracks that are more interesting with faster ships. I also found the reason why I couldn't correct pitch - my emulator had both axis of the left thumbstick assigned to the same axis in my pad's left thumbstick. That was fixed. Now the ships turn better too

Also, I found a way to put the Wipeout Pulse DLC on the PSP emulator. Those tracks would've been better off on Pure or a classic Wipeout, specially Gemini Dam which I'm almost certain it was designed with good old Stanza Inter in mind. Vostok Reef is definitely a Pure track, Edgewinter is just a bit trolly and Orcus is plain retarded. With a Phantom ship on Orcus (white run) you can fly through the entire back straight. (On the black run, the back straight is replaced by a wide left turn with a 90º banking that makes you crash into the walls. Lovely design indeed). However, Gemini Dam is fun enough, and the same can be said about Vostok Reef.

I also found a pretty stupid glitch in Wipeout 3 that I somehow feel the developers knew - any extra thrust (as in "more than just plain acceleration") applied when over an edge is exponentially increased. This makes all boost plates before jumps specially effective, and if you were to use the hyperthruster on takeoff, you'd basically achieve warp speed for a bit. This is specially effective on Gare D'Europa, where the start-finish straight is really long and has a high drop, so if you were to trigger this glitch (it isn't even hard to do) you can creep up on the opposition quite a bit.

hahaha. To true.

I've been playing Fallout 4. I'm actually surprised. I expected a good, if buggy game. But I was keeping my hype-train on low power. I know what happens when you expect to much. Then even a good game seems like a disappointment to the Second Coming  you were expecting. Even so, Fallout 4 has impressed me so far. The writing is a bit... Bethesda. Okay, but nothing new under the sun here. Faces and animations can be pretty wonky at times. I'm looking at you Mama Murphy. And the feral ghouls. But I'm super enjoying the game. I can never wait to play more.

been playing MechWarrior Online lately. it's good, but it doesn't even try to scratch the simulator-itch.
