Hard to Concentrate - The lyrics thread
« on: 19 Sep 2014, 21:14 »

All I want is for you to be happy and
Take this moment to make you my family and
Finally you have found something perfect and
Finally you have found

One to treasure the rest of your days here and
Give you pleasure in so many ways dear and
Finally you have found something perfect and
Finally you have found... here we go

Do you want me to show up for duty and
Serve this woman and honor her beauty and
Finally you have found something perfect and
Finally you have found... yourself

When I first heard this, I thought of GM.  It's by Dave Bromberg, off his new album.  I memorized it as soon as I heard it a second time - it's an acapella solo, in the style of a boasting pub song.

I am the strongest man alive!
That might sound like idle boasting, but I have no need to lie;
I have lived through storms and tempests not another soul survived;
I am the strongest man alive!

I have carried burdens heavier than human tongue can tell,
I’ve traveled distances untold, been forth and back through hell;
I’ve endured the very worst that man and nature could provide,
I am the strongest man alive!

I have fought in many battles, though I have not won them all;
it’s a miracle this bruised and battered body breathes at all!
Oh they say a cat has nine lives, well I’ve lived through four or five –
I am the strongest man alive!

I have cheated death a thousand times, that foul and greedy thief;
but I’ve buried many comrades, which has brought me endless grief.
I alone live on while all around my friends and loved ones die;
I am the strongest man alive!

It’s the mental anguish that’s the worst of all the pain I’ve had –
where other men have gone insane, I’m only slightly mad!
And still I bleed, I breathe, I weep through times I’ve wished to die;
I am the strongest man alive!

Although I am earth’s strongest man, I’m not immune to death;
there’s a motive for each motion, a purpose for each breath,
for without your true and lasting love, I would not – could not – survive;
although, I am the strongest man alive!

<3 Masterpiece, that is one of my favorite songs!!!

(Carl- I didn't know Dave Bromberg had a new album out. Thanks for sharing. He's awesome :-))

Here's the beginning of another favorite of mine-

As I was walking through a life one morning
The sun was out, the air was warm
But oh, I was cold

And though I must have looked half a person
To tell the tale in my own version
It was only then that I felt whole

Do you believe
In something beautiful?
Then get up and be it.

When did you loose your smile?
Were you walking all alone at night
searching endlessly for a way
to join the pieces of what you used to be?
Let me hold you for a moment

When did you loose your smile
Was it all too much to take at once
that suddenly you felt you had nothing left?

The coldest winter
can’t freeze your heart
one day you’ll see that even
the longest winter passes by
that through the years I’d still give it all
to hold you for a moment

When did your dream fade out?
Did it seem it wasn’t worth it at all?
Then I’ll try another million ways
to make you understand

The coldest winter can’t freeze your heart
one day you’ll see
that I’d give it all to hold you,
that even when all hope is gone
I’d still give it all
to hold you for a moment

One day you’ll see
those heavy clouds will soon make way
for brighter days

One day you’ll see
I’ve been here for you all along
and I will never let go of your hand

One day you’ll see

Be careful little eyes what you see
It's the second glance that ties your hands
as darkness pulls the strings
Be careful little feet where you go
For it's the little feet behind you
that are sure to follow

It's a slow fade
when you give yourself away
It's a slow fade
when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade
choices are made
a price will be paid
when you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
It's a slow fade
It's a slow fade

Be careful little ears what you hear
When flattery leads to compromise
The end is always near
Be careful little lips what you say
For empty words and promises
Lead broken hearts astray

It's a slow fade
when you give yourself away
It's a slow fade
when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade,
choices are made,
a price will be paid
when you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day

The journey from your mind to your hands
Is shorter than you're thinking
Be careful if you think you stand
You just might be sinking

It's a slow fade
when you give yourself away
It's a slow fade
when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade,
choices are made,
a price will be paid
when you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day (slow fade)
Daddies never crumble in a day (slow fade)
Families never crumble in a day ...

I've been the needle and the thread
weaving figure eights and circles round your head
I try to laugh but cry instead
patiently wait to hear the words you've never said.

Fumbling through your dresser drawer
forgot what I was looking for
Try to guide me in the right direction

Making use of all this time
keeping everything inside
Close my eyes and listen to you cry.

 Spend all your time waiting
 for that second chance
for a break that would make it okay
 there's always some reason
 to feel not good enough
and it's hard at the end of the day
 I need some distraction
 oh beautiful release
 memories seep from my veins
 let me be empty
 and weightless and maybe
 I'll find some peace tonight

in the arms of the angel
 fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
 of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here

so tired of the straight line
 and everywhere you turn
there's vultures and thieves at your back
and the storm keeps on twisting
you keep on building the lies
that you make up for all that you lack
 it don't make no difference
 escaping one last time
it's easier to believe in this sweet madness oh
this glorious sadness that brings me to my knees

in the arms of the angel
 fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
 of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here

Remember when you were young?
You shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond!

Now there's a look in your eyes,
like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.

You were caught in the crossfire of childhood and stardom,
blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!

You reached for the secret too soon,
you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond!

Threatened by shadows at night,
and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.

Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

By the by, every time I hear Hard To Concentrate now, I think of the Little Cheese. This is good, because I used to think of my ex-girlfriend!

The faint scent of tears
On my rain soaked cheeks
The warm look on the face
Of travelers

The music from our childhood
Faintly echoes in the background
The memories I hopelessly try to remember
Wander aimlessly

But with these tiny wings, launched by my dreams
Over distant oceans and skies
We'll soar together
To a place where memories never fade

You light up the way for me
In the darkness of night
Oh, that warm look
On your face
I miss you so much

There are no flowers, no not this time
There'll be no angels gracing the lines
Just these stark words I find.
I'd show a smile, but i'm too weak,
I'd share with you could I only speak
Just how much this hurts me.

I cannot stay here, I cannot leave,
Just like all I loved, I make believe.
Imagine heart, I disappear, seems,
No one will appear here and make me real.

You're a whole different person
You're a whole different person
You're a whole different person
When you're scared

The eagle screams on Friday
The Colts are doomed this year
The fat's finally in the fire
In the Kingdom of Fear
Dangerous creeps are everywhere

You're a whole different person
When you're scared

We have ways to make you talk
You won't like at all
If you can't run, walk
If you can't walk, crawl
But don't look down
It's a long, long fall

No light, no light in your bright blue eyes
I never knew that life could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day
You can't choose what stays and what fades away

And I'd do anything to make you stay
No light, no light -
tell me what you want me to say

Would you leave me if I told you what I'd done
and would you leave me if I told you what I'd become
'Cause it's so easy to sing it to a crowd, but it's so hard, my love
to say it to you out loud.

No light, no light in your bright blue eyes
I never knew that life could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day
You can't choose what stays and what fades away

And I'd do anything to make you stay
No light, no light -
tell me what you want me to say

You want a revelation
you want to get it right
But it's a conversation I just can't have tonight
You want a revelation
some kind of resolution
you want a revelation

Been singing this to myself a lot, lately.

She went down last October, in a pouring, driving rain -
the skipper, he'd been drinking, and the mate, he felt no pain;
too close to three mile rock, and she was dealt her mortal blow,
and the Mary Ellen Carter settled low.

There were five of us aboard her, as she fin'ly went awash;
we worked like hell to save her, all heedless of the cost -
and the groan she made when she went down, it caused us to exclaim
that the Mary Ellen Carter'd rise again!

The owners wouldn't have it, not a nickel would they spend -
"She gave twenty years of service, lads, and met a sorry end,
but insurance payed the loss to us, so let her lie below!"
Then they laughed at us, and said we had to go.

But we talked of her all winter, some days around the clock -
for she's worth a quarter million, just a-floatin' at the dock;
and with every jar that hit the bar, we swore we would remain
and make the Mary Ellen Carter rise again!

Rise again, rise again
that her name not be lost to the memory of men -
all those of us who loved her, and were with her 'till the end
will make the Mary Ellen Carter rise again!

Now we've worked on her all springtime, off a barge lent by a friend;
three dives a day, in hard-hat suits, and twice I've had the bends!
Thank God it's only sixty feet, and the currents here are slow,
or I'd never have the strength to go below.

But we've patched her rents; stopped her vents; dogged hatch and porthole down,
run cables to her fore and aft, and girded her around;
tomorrow noon we hit the air, and then take up the strain
and make the Mary Ellen Carter rise again!

For we couldn't let her lie there, just to crumble into scale -
she'd saved our lives so many times, just holding through the gale!
And the drunken rats who laughed at us, and sent us on our way,
well they won't be laughing in another day...

And you to whom adversity has dealt the final blow
with smilin' bastards lyin' to ya, everywhere you go,
turn to and put forth all your strength of heart and arm and brain,
and like the Mary Ellen Carter, rise again!

Rise again, rise again
though your heart, it be broken, and life about to end -
no matter what you've lost, be it a home, a love, a friend,
be like the Mary Ellen Carter, and rise again!

~Stan Rogers

Arrrr me hearties

 ;D

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they called 'Gitche Gumee'
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy
With a load of iron ore twenty-six thousand tons more
Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty.
That good ship and crew was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of November came early.

The ship was the pride of the American side
Coming back from some mill in Wisconsin
As the big freighters go, it was bigger than most
With a crew and good captain well seasoned
Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms
When they left fully loaded for Cleveland
And later that night when the ship's bell rang
Could it be the north wind they'd been feelin'?

The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound
And a wave broke over the railing
And every man knew, as the captain did too,
T'was the witch of November come stealin'.
The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait
When the Gales of November came slashin'.
When afternoon came it was freezin' rain
In the face of a hurricane west wind.

When suppertime came, the old cook came on deck sayin'.
Fellas, it's too rough to feed ya.
At seven p.m. a main hatchway caved in, he said
Fellas, it's been good t'know ya
The captain wired in he had water comin' in
And the good ship and crew was in peril.
And later that night when his lights went outta sight
Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Does any one know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours?
The searches all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd put fifteen more miles behind her.
They might have split up or they might have capsized;
May have broke deep and took water.
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters.

Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings
In the rooms of her ice-water mansion.
Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams;
The islands and bays are for sportsmen.
And farther below Lake Ontario
Takes in what Lake Erie can send her,
And the iron boats go as the mariners all know
With the Gales of November remembered.

In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed,
In the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral.
The church bell chimed till it rang twenty-nine times
For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald.
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call 'Gitche Gumee'.
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early!

Rings map years, from hush to play
The past, it never disappears
Bereavement can be over written
But the ache still spears old wounds

Eraser rinds dust a rewritten page
The past, it never disappears
It pries you open and reads from you
Before you lost the will to tears

A finger of a life stripped to the marrow
A skeleton with nothing to show
A moment that's not carried downstream
It's something you can't let go
So hold on, with regret and tears
Look to windward
There's the nothing at the other end, but darkness
There's nowhere to return that's home

Strangers forever
Cross that bridge
Look to windward
Go on alone
Strangers forever
Alone with yourself
Look to windward
With regret and tears

Step out beyond the edge
and start the motion
Look out below,
I know there's no decision
Just collision
It's all arranged

too late for me
No reason to recover
If I should choose to rise
I'm still descending
Never ending
I fall
I fall

And we all are sending smoke signals
Keep pretending we're one

Beyond the night, a rising son
Beyond the night, the battle's won
The battle's won

Fear and shame now in the past
Pain and sorrow gone at last
Gone at last

Circle renewed peace will be found
Beyond the night on sacred ground

River flows led by the wind
First new breath, out journey begins
Our journey begins.

Wake up, wake up darling Corey
What makes you sleep so sound
The revenue officers are coming
They're gonna tear your stillhouse down.

Well, the first time I seen darling Corey
She was sitting on the banks of the sea
Had a forty-four around her body
And a banjo on her knee.

Go away, go away darling Corey
Quit hanging around my bed
Your liquor has ruined my body
Pretty women gone to my head.

Dig a hole, dig a hole in the meadow
Dig a hole in the cold, cold ground
Dig a hole, dig a hole in the meadow
Gonna lay darling Corey down.

Well I think it's fine building jumbo planes.
Taking a ride on a cosmic train.
Switch on summer from a slot machine.
Get what you want to if you want it, 'cause you can get anything.

I know we've come a long way,
we're changing day to day,
but tell me, where do the children play?

Well you roll on roads over fresh green grass
for your lorryloads pumping petrol gas.
And you make them long, and you make them tough
but they just go on and on, and it seems that you can't get off.

I know we've come a long way,
we're changing day to day,
but tell me, where do the children play?

When you crack the sky, scrapers fill the air,
will you keep on building higher
'til there's no more room up there?
Will you make us laugh? Will you make us cry?
Will you tell us when to live, will you tell us when to die?

I know we've come a long way
we're changing day to day
but tell me, where do the children play?

Tuning out of starlight
The innocent lifetime flickers and flashes
Onto a canvas, no
Nobody seems worth it
And while the feeling's sophisticated
The view is so restrained
The past is nearing closer
and closer I fear

So let's just cut the bullshit
And tell me who's independent
Thumbs twiddling' and your life's escaping your mind

Keep in mind
Well the air ain't free as it used to be
But that's quite alright while your still eighteen
It seems
To be, and I'll tell you who's over-rated
What's a beautiful person with some hideous dreams

While the lining isn't silver
We're verging on the side of the road that'll take us home

The edge of us is getting weighed
Read about your life in your local papers
Realize
The end of us is getting near
You're just a droplet of paint trickled off your canvas

Delirious illusions flowing backwards through the river of color while we analyze it to try see it clearer
Secretly appealing to a lonely prisoner
Now what's your vision?

Initiate your shading, blend the universe together in time
It only gets a little easier
Suddenly piece yourself back together now
What's your vision?

And I don't wanna have to give a damn
About you
Or your inhibitions
After all
You're the one who taught me love
Was not for everybody
However, I'm starting to see this world in the right light
Yet it still gets darker
You see, it's just a simple symphony
Or a painting?
Whatever

This unnatural path
It spins infinitely
But my world is crumbling
Let it collapse
Into the abyss
In the midst of summer it won't exist
This emptiness
Is just a blank slate
Waiting for a painter to interfere
It's quite complex
But what do I know?

Mmmm
Mmm Mmmmmm
Mmmmmm

I set my sail
fly the wind, it will take me
back to my home, sweet home

Lie on my back
clouds are making way for me
I'm coming home, sweet home

I see your star
you left it burning for me
Mother, I'm here

Eyes open wide
feel your heart and it's glowing
I'm welcome home, sweet home

I take your hand
now you'll never be lonely
Not when I'm home, sweet home

I see your star
you left it burning for me
Mother, I'm here.

Never seen a blue sky
Yeah I can feel it reaching out
  And moving closer
  There's something about blue
Asked myself what it's all for
You know the funny thing about it
  I couldn't answer
  No I couldn't answer

Things have turned a deeper shade of blue
And images that might be real
  May be illusion
  Keep flashing off and on
  Free
  Wanna be free
  Gonna be free
  And move among the stars
You know they really aren't so far
  Feels so free
  Gotta know free
  Please
Don't wake me from the dream
  It's really everything it seemed
  I'm so free
No black and white in the blue

  Everything is clearer now
Life is just a dream you know
  That's never ending
  I'm ascending

I like The Real Folk Blues better personally

Or an English cover:
Quote
Too late to let you know, what you mean to me
If I cried I'd only make you believe I was happy
I've got to let you go, and my heart, it aches
But it's worth it, 'cause I swear to god, you're a mistake

Know there could be a day, when the pain will fade
But a part of me is lookin' for you, back on yesterday
I've got to get away, 'cause my heart, it burns
And I know if I keep stickin' around, I won't ever learn

Don't wanna cry
'Cause, baby, I
Can feel freedom when they play

The real folk blues
I need the pain
My unhappiness is proof I'm not insane
'Cause when I'm close to you
I swear, I could die
Need to live my life, yeah, live like I'm alive
And it's a lonely road
Good luck and goodbye

Both songs are such powerful moments in the game, it wouldn't be the same without them. I regularly cry when carrying Zulf to safety.

How I wish you could see the potential
The potential of you and me
It's like a book elegantly bound
But in a language that you can't read just yet

You gotta spend some time, love
You gotta spend some time with me
And I know that you'll find love
I will possess your heart

You gotta spend some time, love
You gotta spend some time with me
And I know that you'll find love
I will possess your heart

There are days when outside your window
I see my reflection as I slowly pass
And I long for this mirrored perspective
When we'll be lovers, lovers at last

You gotta spend some time, love
You gotta spend some time with me
And I know that you'll find love
I will possess your heart

You gotta spend some time, love
You gotta spend some time with me
And I know that you'll find love
I will possess your heart

I will possess your heart
I will possess your heart

You reject my advances and desperate pleas
I won't let you let me down so easily
So easily

You gotta spend some time, love
You gotta spend some time with me
And I know that you'll find love
I will possess your heart

You gotta spend some time, love
You gotta spend some time with me
And I know that you'll find love
I will possess your heart

You gotta spend some time, love
You gotta spend some time with me
And I know that you'll find love
I will possess your heart

I will possess your heart
I will possess your heart

Rufe Bildschirmtext, rufe Bildschirmtext

Was gilt denn unser Leben für uns'res Reiches Heer?

"To put one's foot in one's mouth", or more commonly where I come from "to put one's foot in it" means to say something awkward, stupid or offensive.

Pretty sure that themselves. You know, for the whole Godwin Index moment of this thread.

And now back to lyrics -

Don't forget me
I was all yours
A drop on your ocean
A face on your wall

Don't forget me
I am too young
To die here in your eyes
To be on the run

But boy you got me seeing stars
Within every word you say
It hits me like a weapon
Till I stumble away

Boy you got me seeing stars
Till I'm spinning around this room
The centre of my world
And I am the moon...

Staring at you
Shielding my eyes
I smile through the tears, but
These lips, they can't lie

Falling slowly
Waiting to land
On some other planet
On some other man

But boy you got me seeing stars
Within every word you say
It hits me like a weapon
Till I stumble away

Boy you got me seeing stars
Till I'm spinning around this room
The centre of my world
And I am the moon...

That's a nazi song.

No, it's the Marching Song of the German Tank Corps and is still in use by them even today

The French have a version of it as well.

What does this look like to you?
A mark so fine, you barely see
You have one just like it too
A twisting vine
A mark so fine

'Cause I love you with all I am
And you love me because you are
As fearless as a twisting vine
A mark so fine
But still a scar

Fear plays dumb then eats the soul
Like a vagabond with a fishing pole
He whistles but he cannot sing
It's an awful tune
But very soon
I find that i am whistling, too
And your window is like a star
That I sit beneath like a vagabond
Who wears his fear
Just like a scar

The blade of our outrageous fortune
Like a parade, it cuts a path
Light shows on our foolish way
And darkness on
Our aftermath

If I love you, to save myself
And you love me because we are
So fool to think that our parade
Could leave a path
But not a scar

'Cause I love you with all I am
And you love me because you are
As fearless as a twisting vine
A mark so fine
But still a scar

That's a nazi song.

The Nazis used several German songs that were used before their takeover and are still used today, including Germany's national anthem. The fact that the Nazis co-opted them doesn't make them "Nazi songs," any more than their use of the swastika means that historical buildings and artwork throughout the world that incorporate it are Nazi artifacts.

Indeed

It's actually the Foreign Legion that use the tune from Panzerleid as one of their Marching Songs, Kepe Blanc.

Hey you, out there in the cold
Getting lonely, getting old
Can you feel me?
Hey you, standing in the aisles
With itchy feet and fading smiles
Can you feel me?
Hey you, dont help them to bury the light
Don't give in without a fight.

Hey you, out there on your own
Sitting naked by the phone
Would you touch me?
Hey you, with you ear against the wall
Waiting for someone to call out
Would you touch me?
Hey you, would you help me to carry the stone?
Open your heart, I'm coming home.

But it was only fantasy.
The wall was too high,
As you can see.
No matter how he tried,
He could not break free.
And the worms ate into his brain.

Hey you, standing in the road
always doing what you're told,
Can you help me?
Hey you, out there beyond the wall,
Breaking bottles in the hall,
Can you help me?
Hey you, don't tell me there's no hope at all
Together we stand, divided we fall.

Once there was this kid who
Got into an accident and couldn't come to school
But when he finally came back
His hair had turned from black into bright white
He said that it was from when
The car had smashed so hard

 Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm
 Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm

Once there was this girl who
Wouldn't go and change with the girls in the change room
But when they finally made her
They saw birthmarks all over her body
 She couldn't quite explain it
 They'd always just been there

 Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm
 Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm

But both girl and boy were glad
'Cause one kid had it worse than that

'Cause then there was this boy whose
Parents made him come directly home right after school
And when they went to their church
They shook and lurched all over the church floor
 He couldn't quite explain it
 They'd always just gone there

 Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm
 Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm

Well it's no concern of yours my friends, it's no concern of yours
The nail that's sticking up will just get hammered to the board
And it's no concern of yours my friends, it's no concern of yours

It's hard to hold your head up when it's in your hands
To wash off last night's trouble in a clean white shirt
If anyone can do it, I can

And it's no concern of yours my friends, it's no concern of yours
The finest looking apple can be rotten to the core
And it's no concern of yours my friends, it's no concern of yours

We're not here to talk about me
We're here to get things done
'Cause if we do, my daddy won't have ruined both his sons
He's going down
Down
Down

It's no concern of yours my friends, it's no concern of yours
A word can break as easy as it's spoken, snarled or sworn
And it's no concern of yours my friends, it's no concern of yours

When your name is on this building take me out for lunch
After three or four Old Fashioneds, tell me what you've heard
Then you'd better listen closely, I'll only say it once
