Ask and ye shall recieve.

This thread can also be used to talk about anything else of David Willis' work: Shortpacked!, Roomies, It's Walky, etc.

However when talking about works other than DoA, use spoilers. Same for showing preview panels from Willis' Tumblr.

Prediction: next DoA will be 4 panels of Joyce screaming.
It's inevitable.

I hope you didn't buy any lottery tickets, your ability to predict the future is way off.

Ya, that's about what I expected. It only made sense, if he did anything too far off that it would ahve been forced and just bad writing overall.

Its about as much as I expected would happen.  Now Joyce is going to feel bad and confused.  She will probably talk to Ethan about it since he's gay.

Becky must feel crushed and vulnerable after doing that.  Hope she doesn't do anything disastrous to herself.  She seems like she's not happy with her up bringing nor her college.

I don't see anybody spoiling Shortpacked! Or It's Walky! for you. That being said, reading Dumbing of Age is SORT OF a spoiler in of itself.

It does, mostly. Except that the more out-there elements of the Walkyverse don't apply. Carla is a human, not Ultra-car. Monkey Master and the Head Alien is just a cartoon. Just ordinary people pretty much going to college.

And/or came out at school. Didn't she go to a very small Christian university, she said? They often have morality clauses.

I can attest to that. I had a girlfriend who went to a Christian college (one of those real strict ones, I went to a Catholic college, but all that meant was they didn't sell condoms on campus, had a chapel and I had to take 3 theology classes with only 1 of them having to be about Christianity) and those rules were goddamn ridiculous. From the top of my head: people must have their feet on the ground at all times while in a room of the opposite sex (you're not going to be transgendered and go to this college, so yes, sex), door open, of course; pregnancy out of wedlock is grounds for expulsion, a large amount of apologizing and penance is required to be accepted back in, only after the baby is born; only married couples are allowed to show any signs of a sexual relationship - and even then it's basically hand holding.

Also, people in those schools get married so fucking fast.

I'm wondering if she's come out to her family though. From the description they are super controlling and ultra religious. Which is why it was wondered that she was allowed to visit Joyce unexpected and alone. So.. Was she kicked out of college and waiting for word to get back to her parents... Or have her parents kicked her out entirely? Either way... no good.

In an entirely different universe Soggies may rule now.

I'll admit that I was slightly disappointed with the last Shortpacked! ever. But well. It's over.

Over forever? I still haven't read any of it.

On it's ninth birthday Willis announced he would end Shortpacked! on its tenths. That was the 17th. So he posted the last strip of Shortpacked!, which was the last remaining active comic set in the now over seventeen year old Walkyverse, yesterday. Now he only writes DoA.

It all started with Roomies!, then there was It's Walky! and at the end there was Shortpacked!. And Joyce & Walky somewhere in between, parallel to the beginning of Shortpacked!

So is Walky more important in other comics? I mean he's a major character in DoA but he's hardly the main character. (If I had to consider anyone the main character I'd pick Joyce but it seems to be an ensemble)

He was pretty central in It's Walky and Joyce and Walky of course. He was originally kind of the author/reader surrogate character. Not unlike Marten in QC.

Joyce, if not the main character, is definitely the inspiration for Dumbing of Age.

She's also the first person to appear in the comic.
