No Roz needs to say it even louder so Joyce finally gets the bullshit out her head. I swear, she's the most unlikable character in DoA (yes, that includes Mike!!)

Billie's not religious, but I did completely forget about Sierra.

And there's nothing wrong with Joyce. She's sweet and she tries. Yes, she was force fed church dogma since she was born, but you're seriously going to blame a person for that? We already know that Joyce didn't even know bisexuals existed, she's been sheltered her whole life. I don't think we should judge a person based on what they believe, but based on how they act. Which is why I was kinda peeved that Willis makes all his religious characters act like assholes all the time (except Joyce and I guess Sierra now, but she doesn't really ever do anything). Joyce doesn't act like a self-righteous, "I'm clearly better than you" type of person, but Roz certainly does.

EDIT - you know what the worst thing anyone can do for someone who's trying to better themselves? Tear them down for it because they're not at the level someone wants them to be yet.

Billie has stated on more than one opportunity that she believes in god.

On a completely different note, I hope that Joe takes this lesson to heart and helps Danny with his outing.

I can't and don't blame Joyce for how she was brought up. She was very sheltered and programmed to think that way by her parents. Who were probably brought up that way by their parents and so on and so forth... She's never even thought of questioning whether or not what she is taught is right or now, because she's never been given that chance. Now she's being forced to see just how rigid control and thought policing can cause real, serious harm to people. She's having to re-evaluate everything she knows is true.

That said, I don't think Roz is wrong to a degree. Up until coming to college, Joyce was part of the problem unwittingly. Which is kinda the whole point of keeping people sheltered and training them not to question their indoctrination. So they don't think about it. I do think she is wrong in blaming Joyce for it though. She's as much a victim as anyone else. Now that she's had her eyes opened at least somewhat... if she goes back to 'What I was taught is right, everyone else is a sinner' then she would be to blame for consciously choosing her programming while knowing the harm it causes. But that doesn't seem to be where she's heading.

Believing in God does not equate to religious. I believe in God and identify as Christian, but do not consider myself religious.

And Joe has been a pretty one-dimensional character so far, it'd be nice to see him not act like a frat-douche for a little bit.

Bah, extra posts! Neko, yeah I agree with that. Do I think Roz is necessarily wrong? No. But she shouldn't act like because one, it's a douchey thing to do, and two, acting like that harms whatever cause you're fighting for. Being dicks towards people who are coming around to your point of view is pretty dumb.

Hopefully.

I think Willis said somewhere that he was only going to write about their Freshman year of college.  But considering we're only a few weeks into the first semester, this first year could last a while... (and I'm not complaining at all)

Also, I think Joyce is broken now.

He clearly goes to the school and a lot of people saw him and know what he did. I know they didn't go to the police or anything, but I'd imagine someone would have kicked his ass by now.

And no, Ethan doesn't know. I'm pretty sure he just knows Joyce is clearly having a tough time with something at the moment.

Yesh, so having gone back and reading all the early years I missed I understand last week's comics better. Some time has passed since that party and current though, weeks or months. Sarah already did a pretty good job of kicking his ass, and Joyce didn't do so bad herself, though that was just luck and lashing out. As far as I know though, they haven't told anyone else yet about the attack other than those who knew about it that night, which didn't include Amber, or anyone who would tell Amazi-Girl. I have no doubt if she knew she'd go after him...

There's also no knowing if he even goes to the school. He was clearly and deliberately targeting Joyce and knew what to say to her. To me that means he's probably raped other girls before. The guy who threw the party said he has seen him at parties before, but not that he knew him. It's possible he doesn't even go to college, or goes somewhere else, but hunts for targets at college parties, especially ones with freshmen attending, as they're likely to be the easiest targets.

That is true. She's also finally dealing with her near-rape after all this time trying to ignore it and pretend it didn't happen. That's a double break down right there. She's going to need her friends around, I think.

Well, Sarah did with the bat. Amazi-Girl would have, but by the time she or anyone else knew what was going on he had already disappeared. To most everyone else, all they knew was some crazy chick showed up and started beating the crap out of some guy. Pretty much everybody else was drunk, and probably not going to be paying attention to two people chatting it up to realize something wonky was going on. That's one of the reasons serial rapists like that are able to get away with it for so long.

The fact that he hasn't shown up since (as far as I know) and we haven't heard of him getting his ass kicked by one of Joyce's friends, or friends of the guy who held the party is a main reason why I think he doesn't go to school there, or live nearby. Joyce seeing his face on everyone but Ethan right now is  a window into her thoughts and reasoning... And why she feels she's been using Ethan. Since he's gay, she thinks he's the perfect boyfriend for her.. He'll never want sex from her. So he's the one guy she doesn't see as doing what her attacker did, or try to do.

I really hope they catch Ryan soon, so Joyce can stop worrying and spend all her time playing matchmaker for every gay person she meets.  Once she has Becky settled, she will find Ethan a nice boy to marry, dang it, only there can't be any pre-marital hanky-panky involved.  Unless her views on that evolve (eep!) as well.

Oh dear, Joyce is in for it.

And Becky, I think, has certain latent powers, she just needs to learn how to use them properly.  She needs to team up with Mike.  They could do a good cop/bad cop routine.  Ferret out people's dirty little secrets and destroy them sweetly and/or cynically.
