It's a flask. Flasks are discreet. That you could get three people, even ones who didn't drink often, shitfaced, let alone a known alcoholic seems silly. I prefer to think of Billie as Mary Poppins with a drinking problem. Gives a whole new meaning to 'Just a spoonful of sugar'

I've got a horrible feeling that this is going to turn out to be one of those sitcom parties. Y'know, where everyone gets disastrously drunk and wakes up in bed with a random naked other character with such a scrambled memory that they have no clue whether they actually did anything. Their imagination and fears are enough to put their relationships under strain.

there are also other stereotypical 'morning after' gags:

BECKY: "According to this certificate, my name is now 'Rebecca Seigal.'

ETHAN: " Huh... I was wondering about the ring... Wait..."

BOTH: "Oh SHIIIT!!!"

Not that I consider this likely. DoA is fairly realistic, for its subject matter.

I'm guessing people are more buzzed than actually drunk. None of them other than Billie drink so it wouldn't take more than a hefty shot for them to be decently tipsy.

I'm disappointed with the group though. Dorothy, in particular, I think should have known this would bother Joyce and that they were all secretive about it could hurt Joyce's trust of them. If they were following Billie and Walky's lead to drink to make the party "bearable" then Joyce could be really hurt and insulted.

Also I am wondering what Becky is thinking and doing off panel.

Comic relief can be pretty damn important.

Also wait, why would Sarah be in the same dorm room two years in a row?

Also, Raidah needs to leave now.

At my school upperclassmen who choose to stay on campus get to pick their rooms before freshmen are randomly assigned to the rest. Maybe this building is in a good spot on campus or something

At my old college, "squatters" have first pick. If you want to keep your room, then you have an entire day to squat in it through the main system. If you don't squat in that time period (a little less than a full day), then you may or may not get to keep your room. Honors and disability students have first pick after that. Then seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen have periods of time (like a week, I think?) to choose their rooms. Freshmen are segmented into three groups via the alphabet (randomly ordered), so any given freshman may have to try to get a room in a different, better building a full three or more weeks after room registration starts. I kept the same room as long as possible, personally. It was like having a home away from home--there's a certain sense of comfort to have "your" room on campus.

If she's been sharing that out, I don't think anyone is going to get more than lightly buzzed.  That Flask isn't big enough to get that many people drunk.

Did we ever get verification of what's in the flask? I figured vodka.

We've seen none of those people drink though, who knows what their tolerance is. Plus there's the possibility of resupply since Billie's room is right down the hall, clearly time has passed.

It was never mentioned.  It was a reference to a fictional alcoholic drink in the Discworld 'verse, that is consumed in *very* small amounts, and would require Billie to be using a shiny plastic flask, rather than a metal one.

My first drink at age 17 (yeah yeah, it took me a while to come into my stride in high school, okay) was a bottle of overproof rum that I (illegally) back from Jamaica. So that party was fun for a couple hours...and then it was less so.

Well.

Let's wait and see if she did that just to prove that she doesn't always act 12, or whether she's actually attracted to Becky.

I'm leaning towards the latter, but I also wonder if the attraction is rooted in "holy shit she's actually talking to me and not really uncomfortable around me and I'm not really uncomfortable around her MAYBE SHE'S THE ONE". I could see Dina having had romantic and/or sexual urges, but suppressing them because she thought she'd never be able to act on them...

Yeah, the kiss is pretty ambiguous at the moment.  Hard to tell if it's merely a reaction to the looks/acts 12 claim, or if there's more to it.  She did tell Amber once that she has a somewhat clinical fascination with sex, without going into further details, so I hope she has a notebook handy.

I'm thinking that it's mostly the former. However, that won't stop the next chapter being about Becky experiencing a relationship that is at least one part a socialisation learning exercise. I also think that Becky is going to learn new ways of looking at the world whilst getting a new friend, hence: 'Walking With Dina'!

I'm neither pro, nor  anti Dinky ship.  However, even if it doesn't launch (or sinks), I really hope that it isn't just Dina trying to "prove" something to the others, and that there is at least possible interest there.  Becky is in a bit of a crisis, and already has indicated at least an interest in Dina.  For it to just be "I'm not twelve, dammit!"  seems like kicking Becky when she's down.  Then again, Dina might not be socially astute enough to read that as a possible ramification.

Well, that escalated quickly. For now I'm more on the side of Dinah is doing this to prove she doesn't always behave as if she were 12.

Edit: To clarify, I don't want that to be the case, but I see it as the more probable of the two possibilites.

I took it as more reactionary to the group's comments as well. Dina also could be doing what she thinks is the appropriate thing to do when someone you don't dislike expresses romantic interest in you.

I don't think she's doing anything bad, not at all, really.  I'm more wondering what's her thought process right now, and her level of social awareness.  I think that no matter what, her motivations are, if not "good", then at the very least, "neutral".  But intent and effect are not always coincident.  Before I got hit with the "oh shit, what might happen?" thing, my first reaction was "Dina is being a badarse".

Looking at it again, Dina looked pissed in the second last frame.  I think it's more of a reaction to being called 12 than attraction.

Yeah, Becky is one of the only people so far who genuinely respects Dina as a human being. I think she's flattered, especially since Becky is actually interested in talking about Dina's favorite topics. Nobody has ever (that we know of) expressed an interest in Dina.

I mean like... for a long time, nobody was straight-forward about their interest in me, and then when a few people were, it seemed ..... off. The first person who seemed sincere and straight-forward about it was my first boyfriend. It didn't work out at all. But I was interested in going out with him because his honesty was really refreshing. I took a day to think about it, though, and I figured I didn't have anything to lose. :P
(click to show/hide)

Becky is one of the first prospects Dina has had as a possible love interest--most likely in her entire life. I feel like the kiss was out of frustration, too, but it's important to note that she may have had an interest in Becky without knowing how to approach it because no one's ever liked her that way before. It can be a spite kiss AND an "I like you, too" kiss.

Well-said.  I wonder if it'll end up being the opposite of what many have been speculating about, like how Becky is interested, and Dina isn't.  It'd probably be even worse if it turns out that in the long-run, Becky is the one who isn't as interested as she thought, and Dina was.  That'd be even more sad than the scenario that I thought of earlier.

Hedgie, dare you suggest that scene of Firefly was NOT appropriate use of dinosaurs? Are you TRYING to make me want to fight you? Because why else would you slander so much as a second of what I consider the greatest single season of television ever created, LET ALONE, the introduction of my favorite character?

I say favorite character. I can't pick favorites from that group. I loved every minute with every one of them. I'm making myself sad.

Fuck you, Fox. I will never forgive, never forget.

Back to the topic: And so, Ruthless enters.

Party done.

Possibility of more Dinky smooches at a later date in search of scientific analysis. Is Dinky a viable option? Sources say maybe? We shall see, more data is necessary to formulate an answer!

Dina's response to Becky was pretty much perfect, and so in character.  Of course, if she *does* establish interest, hopefully she won't strive for scientific rigour.
