Well, that settles that matter.  Ruth is just lonely, since the only person she has in her life is Billie.  I guess browbeating people into watching a film with her is her idea of social interaction.

Well, we know that Ruth will be watching with Billie, and Dina with Becky. Who will Danny watch with (now that he's been forced to): Amber, or Ethan?

Can I just say, I called it, before Ben RG, even. I want that credit, even though I buried it under things like "Billie's there, too!"

Neither do I.

I disagree, but I'm well acquainted with the concept, 'Diff'ren' strokes for diff'ren' folks,' apostrophes showing the pronunciation I'm most familiar with. I personally find it cute and heartwarming that they'd be hovering above the hands of the other since they're still uncertain of what they mean to each other. T'is cute as fuck.

All I can say is that Ruth must really like Frozen! Does this count as her and Billie's first date?

Well, we know that Ruth will be watching with Billie, and Dina with Becky. Who will Danny watch with (now that he's been forced to): Amber, or Ethan?

I think that he'll end up sitting in between them. This will symbolise the character arc for Danny: He's going to be trapped between his love for and need to help Amber and his growing attraction to Ethan. DMW is probably planning to tell us the story of Danny's dilemma and how it is resolved, if it ever is, because, IRL,not every emotional dilemma is resolved.

I just realized "got-dumped" is referring to Dorothy dumping him in the beginning of thr strip. That confused the hell out of me for a few minutes.

Am I the only one disappointed in the nump back to Malaya/Marcie?

I feel like that's the kind of move you'd pull as a writer when you know you need to have SOMETHING, but you're not sure where exactly the main line is going. I'd be more accepting of this if Willis wasn't known for stockpiling months ahead of story.

This storyline is mostly interesting because of how it relates to Sal, the only one of these characters to have had more than one conversational comic with our main cast. These are people I barely know and couldn't be assed to talk about, aside from the fact they're the focus instead of what the goddamn hell is going on back at the 'safe,' 'dorm party' that's being thrown back in Joyce and Sarah's room.

He often cuts to a different story when he wants to do a "cliffhanger." I'm guessing some shit is gonna go down when it returns to the main storyline.

This is a silly practice. I'll admit I'm new to Willis'style, but this seems designed to piss people the fuck off.

It occurs that this might be Willis' intention. If it is, I understand this thead's title more than I did before

Dammit, now I have to think beyond the moment with Billie and Ruth.

Ruth will almost undoubtedly realize what is happening with Becky, and Becky won't be in the dorms with Joyce for long. She's got a lot of stuff behind her, and I'm not even talking the lesbian drama. She's run away, she's homeless, these are things that need addressing even before her lesbian identity.

It's hard to eat pussy when stuck in non-animal friendly housing, if you understand the lesbian subtwxt.

Fuck. Willis is given to his own choices, but this is one I dislike. This is the first I've been entirely against, I might say.

Given that DMW writes and draws several months in advance, then the chance that this is random filler is very low. This is going to progress something; what remains to be seen. Several possibilities come to my mind, including meeting Sal and Amazi-Girl saving the day.

It's not that this feels like filler, it's that we're not yet at a point where Malaya/Marcie is anything but a b-level backstory. Backstory for Dumbing of Age is rich and colorful already, I feel adding a whole damn layer atop it is just absurd, and likely only something that would slow the progress of the primary arch

I dunno, though. Maybe it's a function of reading it every day now instead of powering through the archive, but it just seems like he's dodging the (currently) more difficult story arc. I was more than a bit drunk when I left that comment, and while I see what I was going for, it's too soon to say.

I'm delighted to see Lucy! I've been rereading the archive and wondering when she might show up.

Willis said changing story is to make cliffhangers since switching to seven days a week. It's mentioned in one of the alt-texts around the family visiting storyline if I remember right.

Malaya is either really comfortable with Marcie or really ignorant and indifferent to Marcie's feelings. So far I'm suspecting the latter.

I do understand Lucy's pain: Explaining fan-art to a non-fan is nearly impossible!

I also can't exactly blame Marcie for her reaction. Lucy is at least aware enough of other people to realise that she interrupted an attempted moment!

This is one of the stupidest, hypocritical things Amber could choose to start an argument over, but Danny went ahead and Danned everything up by going straight for the most asshole comeback in his arsenal.

I wonder if Danny's pride has made this three-for-three dumpings whilst at college. I suppose, being only a late teen, it is too much to hope for to expect him to be entirely rational and mature. Still, he could at least try to be nice instead of defensive.

Ethan seems to be invested in this relationship himself. Is he just being 'the nice guy' (which is his normal role) or does he really think those two are good for each other?

I thought Danny was saying that he was sick of pretending Amber wasn't his girlfriend (because of her alter ego), but maybe I'm giving him too much credit.

Maybe he was but it was probably the wrong thing to say in an argument. Basically he was using Amber's mental and emotional issues to tell her that she has nothing to say to him about his drinking right now. That's a dick move, in my view.

[edit]
Lots of anger on DMW's comments page today. I'm not sure why but I'm wondering if some readers are feeling a disconnect between fundamentally liking and admiring Amber (she's a damaged young woman who wants to turn her injuries into a force for good) and disliking her very rigid morality and stance regarding the letter of the law, at least as far as it applies to other people (I've seen the same cognitive dissonance affecting people's reactions to Joyce).

To draw a parallel, it reminds me a little of how posters on this site and the subreddit sometimes react to Claire when she turns her acid tongue on Clinton. They basically like and admire the character but they don't like some of her attitudes and the conflicting emotions lead to outbursts sometimes.

This is going to sound like a very blown out of proportion example considering it's a comic character who beats up campus hooligans vs. characters who regular save the world, and we're talking about underaged-drinking vs. Cold War red scare politics: But when someone is that strongly legalist, they'll end up becoming a tool of the oppressor rather than a friend of the oppressed, because not all laws are actually good. One of the reasons The Dark Knight Returns is my favorite Batman series is that it shows the difference between Batman's code vs. Superman's, with Superman have becoming just a pawn.

Actually, after refreshing my memory, it would actually be two-for-two; I had a slightly garbled recollection of his relationship with Billie.

Wait, his relationship with Billie? I completely forgot that was a thing at all and even thinking about it...nothing comes to mind. I powered through the comic late last year.

It all starts here and runs on for about five strips. For Joe to have thought that Danny got lucky, he and Billie must have got pretty far before Billie got the message that Danny wasn't interested.

I will say this much: I pity Danny just on the grounds that he is never going to be able to go back to normal girls after Billie and Amber. They've spoiled him for the Dorothys of this world!

*blink* That doesn't count as a relationship at all in my book. It's not even an ONS.

Poor Joyce! Stuff like today's strip illustrates why she can never keep a good mood!

[edit]
I've also been archive-binging on 'It's Walky' and do you know what occurred to me? DMW's plot thread for the superhero arc was very, very similar to the story that we are getting in Agents of SHIELD season 2! :-o

I love the superhero versions of the DoA crew (although you could argue, due to the age of the strips that the DoA crew are 'ordinary life' versions of the superheroes). I'm currently thinking out a fanfiction where DoA Joyce meets IW Joyce in a dream. In many ways, they are very, very different women due to the apocalyptically different circumstances of IW Joyce's young adulthood. I wonder if they would even recognise each other or if DoA Joyce would view her as an 'evil twin' (something that IW Joyce would consider ironic).

I'd also really like to bring back the Yellow Stripes as regular superheroes (X-Com having taken over the anti-alien role, the Powers That Be needed a way to usefully employ this dangerous bunch that was not a waste of potential).
