Holy fuck I wish I had Dina's parents.

My mom gives me money to take girls out sometimes. It's pretty neat.

Though, seeing as I'm strait, I'm not sure she'd do the same if I were dating a guy.... still awesome though.

I can see why her parents would be absolutely thrilled that Dina is not only interacting with people more but is dating as well. And I'm glad Joyce could see a good reaction of parents finding out their kid is happy (with their own happiness and approval, not the money itself).

I like this result. I like Becky's response towards Dina's having $200 date money. I do not like Long John Silver's, I'm just amused that it's Becky's go-to 'nice' restaurant

My aunt might give me money to take a girl out with enough convincing, because she's squarely in the 'doesn't understand bisexuality' camp.

Today's strip (9/6) makes me shiver a little. I can't imagine what it must be like for Billie; checking every morning to see if Ruth may have contrived some way to kill herself overnight or if maybe her abused body had finally given out on her.

I had a quite similar reaction on Fri night..  It was even sadder when I saw the Patreon comments, which weren't mean or anything, but just highlighting the depressingness of their whole situation… and the seeming inevitability.

I really like and empathise with Ruth and Billie. They make each other happy in a twisted, unhealthy way so I want to see them both happy and improving. Although I think we're a while from any improvement yet.

The one thing I really like about the dynamic between Joyce and Walky in Dumbing of Age is the fact that the two of them have the lamest lines in taunts. I'm sure that they're trying to annoy each other but it's only the realisation that the other party is trying to be annoying that really causes annoyance. Thee is no intrinsic insult in it!

Meanwhile, the last time we saw Mike, he was being weirded out by Becky telling him that he was invited to Joyce's party so long as he wasn't mean. I wonder if he is still thinking about how strange that moment was?

So, Joyce is a shipfic generator? Well, it's a harmless enough pass-time so long as she keeps it to herself. If, on  the other hand, she decides that it's her 'mission' to make what her analysis indicates is the optimal ship happen for all her friends and associates? Well, that way chaos lies.

[edit]
By the way, I'm beginning to wonder if the person who is being grounded by everyone else is Joyce.

It occurs now as I wait for the new comic, that, BenRG, what you use as argument that Joyce is a 'shipfic generator' is pretty literally something Willis has had to do in creating this comic. Some pairings, he wouldn't have considered long, but writing this kind of thing, you do have to consider every possible outcome

My god. I have two thoughts.

One, Walky is a genius. Everything he has said here is pure, gleaming gold. I have a new life ambition.

Two, I love Joyce's panicked face. That is perfect.

Walky is demonstrably capable of "clueless", or tactless, however.

If I thought Walky was capable of malice I'd kind of hate him for what he said to Joyce.

I've mentioned before that Joyce is a romantic. I'm pretty sure that she expected to go to college, meet Mr Right pretty much immediately and not have to worry about adult life because being 'wife' and 'mother' would fill it all. Things don't seem to be working out that way. Walky (as a stand-in for Willis himself, in my view) may have done Joyce an inestimable service by telling her not to have a back-up plan for the future just in case finding said 'Mr Right' takes longer than she expected.

FWIW - I wonder if she's trying to follow her mother's example. Hank and Carol Brown seem to have met at the same college, after all...

FWIW2 - I think that Joyce would make a good kindergarten/elementary school teacher. She's got that patient and optimistic persistence needed to get through to hyperactive young minds.

In my opinion, what Joyce said in the last comic is just as tactless. Besides that, Walky is right.

It's the very premise.

You could argue that the comic's existence is a spoiler for previous comics set in the Walkyverse, but...

I really know pretty much nothing about any non-DoA Willis comics. (Is DoA part of the "Walkyverse"? Walky's in it but he's not the main character.)

Edit: Oh wait, is that several comics with one continuity? Interesting. I went back to the beginning, I guess that's pre-Joyce and Walky?

Yes, in essence. It starts about 12-14 years pre-"It's Pregnancy" and... Well, all I can say is be ready for a ride that is about as different, conceptually, from DoA as you can get.

Yeah, I read a few into it and...1997 Joyce is different. Very different. Also I guess "it's pregnancy" is vague enough but why would you spoil something that big.

It isn't one continuity. Willis has done several series that are in separate continuities, but with the same characters. Wildly different circumstances and rules. DoA doesn't have aliens or super powers in it. Monkey Master and Head Alien are just a cartoon, not the series villains. There is nothing saying that Joyce and Walky are fated to be together in DoA.

Basically, there's two continuities that Willis has written.

The Walkyverse is the first continuity, consisting of Roomies!, It's Walky!, Joyce and Walky!, Shortpacked! (which is... IIRC concurrent to Joyce and Walky!?), and now It's Pregnancy!

Then, there's Dumbing of Age, with the characters from the first continuity transplanted into a new continuity.

Also, when the title is a spoiler, is there really any way to avoid spoiling?

Sorry, I meant are the three comics that are mentioned on joyceandwalky.com in the same continuity? I know DoA's separate.

Sorry, I meant are the three comics that are mentioned on joyceandwalky.com in the same continuity? I know DoA's separate.

It looks like, by what bhtooefr said. I knew Roomies, It's walky and Joyce and Walky were. I thought Shortpacked was different but I guess not.

Yeah, those three. It looks like I can read Roomies, It's Walky and J&W in one stretch. I have no idea when to start Shortpacked if at all. Is that also with the same characters? Yeesh.

I want to say that Shortpacked and J&W are set simultaneously, but look at different subsets of the characters? (As in, IIRC, some characters from Roomies and It's Walky disappear from J&W, but they continue in Shortpacked.)

Will I be confused if I read all of Roomies then IW then J&W and THEN Shortpacked?

So I was a few strips into Roomies and it was December in real life and apparently time actually moves. Weird.

Edit: Wait, he stopped writing for four months? Whaaaaaaaaa?

Edit: WHAT THE FUCK AM I READING. Now I know why people say "damn you, Willis" :(
