New Year, New Us: Resolutions 2015
« on: 26 Dec 2014, 10:31 »

Holy crap, guys. It's going to be 2015! This year had its ups and downs for all of us, I'm sure. But what are YOU doing to make next year more up and less down? I embrace the notion that the new year brings opportunity and a fresh start for all of us. Sure, its hokey but if it gives me the little push I need to get started doing things that I wanted to do anyway, why not?

So, what are your resolutions, goals, plans, etc for the new year? How did you do on your resolutions from last year?

I'm turning 30 next year which is crazy and scary but exciting. I could probably sum up my resolutions into one and just say that I'm going to seek happiness. I have a few specific goals in mind but I'll get to them after my other favorite year-end tradition: the 2014 resolution reflection.

The only two I had for this year was 1. Don't buy any clothes, shoes, bags etc, and 2. Graduate. I succeeded in one of those!

For 2015 I'm easing up on the not buying stuff thing, I'm allowed to buy things if it's within my spending budget: Resolution 1. being that I need to start budgeting properly. I'm moving to a different country and starting to pay off my massive student debt next year, so having my finances in order is really important.

2. Move to WA, U.S.

3. Get married.

So I want to work out more, continue my moves to eat better, and drastically reduce my soda pop intake.

I did work out more, not as much as I wanted but more.

I generally ate better this year.

My soda pop intake is still as bad as last year.

2/3

This year's resolutions:
1. Don't become homeless
2. Handle my health
3. Do the thing

I have no fucking idea. I would try to quit smoking again but I just don't think I'd do it.

Uh... based on the last five months ago... I have done this. Fuck!

Well, this year I don't so much have a resolution, more of a project/self challenge.

I want to write a 50-song album. One about each American state.

I have never been to America. Ever. And as such, each song will be based only on what I can find out about a state on Wikipedia - I already know quite a bit about America so I will have to make sure I check on Wikipedia that anything I already know is cited on there.

This works out at about a song per week. I'm not sure if I'll upload one by one or two a massive upload towards the end of the year, but I've already got Delaware written in my head and my brother-in-law is lending me a synth that should bring some breadth to the proceedings.

So yeah. That's my stupid idea.

I don't recall my resolutions, which is probably a bad sign, but maybe having this year's enshrined on the internet will help.

1. Ironic since I'm turning 21 this year, but I really need to curb back on the drinking. I don't do it very often, but on nights when I do I do it a bit too much. It's not a good idea with my condition.

2. I need to work on my money-saving skills in a major way, or I will not last long in the post-college Real World.™ I'm literally already at the point of living paycheck to paycheck and it's lucky I got as much Christmas money as I did because I was only a couple days away from not having enough in my account to pay my car insurance.

3. My grades this past semester were not awful by any means, but they were a bit lower than they were in previous semesters. A lot of that has to do with the internship drama, which I think I bitched about on here, but I also let stress drag me down way too much and I decided to throw up my hands and give up on one too many assignments. While I won't be in any slave-driving internships with assholes next semester, I am poised to still be nearly as busy.

4. Because I was so busy, I hardly read anything I wasn't assigned. I'm already working on fixing that over break but I should try to find time to do it when I am otherwise dicking around on the interwebs.

5. I am a pessimist by nature, but I try not to be a dick about things in public. But according to anonymous employee evaluations I sometimes am. And I think I need to try something to change that internally if I don't want to project it externally. So that's the big thing to work on. And I think if it try it may help me with the some of the others.

1. Go to Europe, have fun, see art, drink good wine.
2. Get pregnant.
3. Make more things! And learn new techniques to making things. Like spinning yarn and maybe glassblowing just because.
4. Walk more, take vitamins, consume less sugar and junk, and generally try to be healthier. My immune system has taken a nose dive over the past few years, so I want to do more little things to try to keep healthy and stop getting sick. (Even though being around tiny germ factories is the biggest part of the problem...)

If you're going to Europe with your husband and lay off the wine, the first one might result in the second one! And then you could do the whole celebrity thing where you name your baby after where it was conceived! Paris, Roma... Hamburg, Stuttgart, Birmingham, Bergen... Okay maybe don't do that.

I'm not laying off the wine while in Europe! The baby can wait!

But we're starting in Amsterdam, then heading to Munich, Berlin, and then ending going all over Switzerland. No time for Austria, especially not that part.  :-P

I don't bother doing New Year Resolutions, but, eh, what the hell.

1) Find a job.
2) Defend my thesis.
3) Somehow be less of a loser shut-in and have some sort of social life.

2 will definitely happen, and 1 will probably happen unless something goes horribly wrong. 3 doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell.

1.  Cut-down or quit the booze
2.  Switch, at least mostly to e-cigs
3.  Shift a bunch of weight, but that'll probably happen with #1
4.  Transfer to a university in the Seattle area.

Not gonna bother with my 2014 resolutions. 2015 resolutions:

1. Get a better, full-time job in an interesting field.
2. Lose about 20-25 more kilos.
3. Don't fall in love.

Yeah, pretty much that, but I at least did my thesis last year. (It was... okay!) I'm leaving for a few days starting tomorrow and when I get back I hope to be on my way towards number 1, otherwise I'm planning on on going back for my master's in September and just working at... the mall... or some shit...

3.) anyone wanna throw snowballs at cars with me? I don't know why that was the first thing that came into my mind.

Ex.) Stop getting blackout drunk! I'm already mostly on my way towards that, I cut down last year from about 60-70 drinks a week to about 30 or so and it's been even fewer recently, but I think that's only because I've been sick. Ex.) Ex.) find out why I've been sick. The doc said it's probably not the alcohol, but he also did kinda just shrug...

I'm not big on resolutions, but I am generally trying to improve general parts of my life: I'd like to get a new job (full time with benefits) that does not require me to work on weekends.

I'd like to devote more time to jewelry making, try out some new designs that i have been playing around with.

I'd like to learn a few more recipes, and generally overcome my anxiety towards cooking.
