Neill Blomkamp's Alien movie
« on: 27 Feb 2015, 09:20 »

SO after leaking some concept art for a hypothetical alien movie Neill Blomkamp wanted to make, he is getting the green light!

Supposedly it takes place after the second film and totally retcon's alien 3 and resurrection.  i am hoping it is not constrained by the Prometheus films in any way.  Sigourney Weaver so far is on board for the movie.

Fuck yeah. I only ever watched Alien and Aliens, so this is right by me.

I don't think he will be? Also I think this is completely separate from the Prometheus films, although the Engineers were mentioned in one of the articles I read about it. (They are the same universe, but completely different timelines and stories, so I'm not sure how they'd fit together.)

I am excited about this. I love Aliens the most in the series (closely followed by Alien) and while I really do like Alien 3, it did kill off my favorite characters. Like...all of them. And Resurrection was a ugly mess of a movie, I'm pretty sure everyone agrees on that point. From what I saw of the concept art, it looks really interesting. I'm hoping Michael Biehn will come back and be Hicks, as the character is in the concept art.

Well, I guess it depends on what you want. They're very different. The first is essentially a horror movie set in space. The second is a sci-fi action movie with a touch of horror. But really, the fight with Ripley and the Queen is basically my favorite scene of all time. I love it.

The first is certainly my favourite.  I haven't seen Prometheus, so I don't know how well I'd like it.  But the suspense, and the xenomorph was exceedlingly scary.  In the sequel, there just wasn't the suspense, and I'm rarely the fan of action films.

The production design of the first one is just beyond amazing. It's what I thought was the best part of the first -- the whole places depicted, the Nostromo in particular, felt genuinely real.

Which is why I desperately need to buy a PC that is able to play Alien: Isolation.

Here's hoping that it is a movie version of Isolation. That would be the shot in the arm the franchise needs and allow a relaunch without recasting the original characters.

So I expect we're looking at something like a much-older Ripley and Hicks leading the fight to defend their kids and grandkids from an Alien invasion.

Question: Do the androids of the Alien universe age? If they don't, they'll need to re-cast Bishop. Also Carrie Henn hasn't made a movie since Aliens so Newt will need to be re-cast.
