What ISN'T understandable is why the lyric would be toned down! :) :)

To post in a Twitch chat?

Nooo, just in general...

Fun HISHE parody of Solo and "This is America" by the Childish Gambino.  As with most HISHE videos, there are spoilers for the Solo movie so be careful if you wish not to be spoiled.

Did you ever have that moment of perspective when you're suddenly terrified and awed and astonished at the fact that against billions-to-one odds (more!) you're this incredibly close to a star?

When you look up at the sun (don't do this at home, kids, it's bad for your eyes) and think, "my god, that is a gigantic fucking nuclear furnace, producing incomprehensible amounts of barely-contained, uncontrolled,  raw energy, and could kill me in an instant if I get too close,"  and "out of the septillions of completely empty cubic lightyears in this galaxy, how is it even possible that I would be in one that has *THAT* in it?"

Nobody?  Is that just me?

Nope.

At the fact that I exist at all, yes. That's dizzying.

Given that we do exist, though, the fact that we're this ideal distance from a star is not quite so unlikely.

We've all thought of this when we encounter someone who's asshole-parked.

Most of us don't have the angle grinder handy, and even when we have one at hand it usually requires wall current as opposed to car-system electrical service to work.  So it doesn't happen nearly so often as the will and desire to make it happen.

On the other hand, I once left a perfectly polite and civil note on someone's car that said, "It would be a whole lot easier to not run into your car every morning if it were parked in the same row as the other cars I'm not running into."  And that seemed to have the desired effect at a much smaller expense.

Of course since its a summary spoilers for the classic story "Beowulf" but this summary is pretty dope

I think you shouldn't do that thing without a shirt on. or some kind of padding. I was wondering why the disarmed sword was flexing so much - the way I see it, the sword got caught between his own sword and his back, so you could get a nasty cut from that.

Sunday was a strange convergence in North American sports. One one day, the metro area of Los Angeles saw SIX different home teams hosting games in five different major league sports.

The final results from all six games:

  • Kings 4, Rangers 3
  • Sharks 4, Ducks 3
  • Rams 29, Packers 27
  • Red Sox 5, Dodgers 1
  • Clippers 136, Wizards 104
  • Dynamo 3, Galaxy 2

Only four local teams didn't play at home Sunday: LAFC was in Kansas City; the Angels had already been eliminated from the MLB playoffs, and the Lakers and Chargers were off.

There's a guy in one of my meetup groups who works on military AI.  You know.  Autonomous attack Drones, Reconnaissance robots, ambulatory equipment-carriers that deploy with troops, bomb-disposal robots, bomb-delivery robots, robot firefighters and damage-control robots for Navy ships, etc....

Who thinks mannequins are really, really creepy.  And goes out of his way to avoid them, because they're so disturbing.

I happen to think the idea of a "bomb delivery robot" running into somebody's camp or somebody's building on its spindly little legs dodging around and over various obstacles (and blowing down doors, or guards, that it can't dodge or smash through using the moral equivalent of a giant sawed-off shotgun) is pretty darn creepy and disturbing.  I mean, when it reaches the recipient's apartment, what does it do, knock on the door and request a signature for the package?  Um, probably not.

Sometimes I wonder if he owns a mirror.

When my dad got hit by lightning, our neighbor missed him and went out looking.  He found Dad injured and confused, and got him to the hospital ... but when Dad got his stuff and got ready to go home, one of his boots was missing.  He went back out to the place where he got hit (on a sunny day) but he never found the other boot.

When my grandpa Charlie (his dad) got hit, he got home on his own but considerably worse for the wear physically - one of his hands was pretty badly scarred, and that whole arm was always a bit weak after that ... and one of his boots was missing.

I don't get to talk with my Mom's side of the family very much (alas, I am to them an "Outlander" now, with "Outlandish" worldly ideas and mores, more than two generations removed from the Faith), but last week I learned that when my grandpa Reuben (my mom's grandfather) got hit, it killed the horse he was riding ... and one of his boots went missing.

Is this just another weird coincidence like having a bunch of people in the family get hit by lightning in the first place, or does lightning somehow have a personal grudge against boots?

When my mother was a little girl she got hit by a car waiting for the school bus and lost a boot. She didn't know English very well and kept saying "my butt, my butt, I can't find my butt."

Morituri, don't take this the wrong way, but I don't think I'll stand too close to you in a thunderstorm.

Strangely, though, losing boots and shoes in accidents is one of those things I've heard fairly often. Nobody ever really seems to know where they got to

According to The Almighty Oracle, people getting knocked clear out of their shoes when struck by lightning is indeed a thing.

Anyway, maybe at your next family together, have a little chat about staying indoors during lightning storms, hmm?

Yeah, we've had that conversation.  It's even become something of a family joke.  I have several decades now of staying indoors during lightning storms, and I even moved to a place where they don't happen nearly as often.

My Grandma Beryl (Charlie's wife) was occasionally heard to exclaim that someone was "so stubborn he could get hit twice by the same bolt of lightning."  I think she used the phrase affectionately, but I could never really tell with her.

My Grandma Beryl (Charlie's wife) was occasionally heard to exclaim that someone was "so stubborn he could get hit twice by the same bolt of lightning."  I think she used the phrase affectionately, but I could never really tell with her.

I am definitely going to steal that expression at the very first opportunity.
