I mean, the blood does replace itself in a relatively short time, the child should be fine.

From context I gathered that "bluebottles" are some form of stinging aquatic lifeform and that beach is apparently covered in them?

Yikes.  How dare they use a name for those jellyfish that DOESN'T immediately invoke the safety warnings and facts that people know about for coping with the Portuguese Man'o'war?

Giving those things a name that doesn't connect in people's minds to the relevant safety information they already have is just irresponsible!

In Australia, the name bluebottle invokes all those safety warnings much more readily than Portuguese Man'o'war (well, at least as readily anyway)

How dare you guys use an unfamilar name?  :-P

To be serious ... I think they may technically be different species.

Wiki says it's the same one.

When I hear bluebottle, I think of the fly, though.

You may notice that wiki redirects physalia utriculus (bluebottle) to the same page as physalia physalis (Portuguese Man o’ War).

Also, check out the page on Man o' War:

Quote
- Portuguese man o' war, a floating marine animal found in the Atlantic that resembles a jellyfish
- Physalia utriculus, also known as Indo-Pacific Portuguese man o' war, a similar species found in the Indo-Pacific

So I guess Indo-Pacific Man o' War is also a name that's used?

Anyway, they are very similar. The bluebottle is smaller and less venomous.

[400m container ship]

Today I learned that I've known for decades exactly how many minutes an my stroll aft--bow through a container [editor's note: the author almost wrote shipping] ship would take: exactly as long as---whatever weather---mine walks between mine and an mine acquaintance's homes do.

Tragically, I recall some guy getting sacked and dragged through the mud after talking about dating someone at a high school, because he was simply too daft to mention that she was a teacher there.

In school today, I reached for into my backpack at the start of the lesson and realized I'd forgotten my calculator (an absolute must-have). A friend sitting in front of me heard me grumbling about this and handed me his. He was so confident about it that I didn't object, thinking he must have had two. Instead, he raised his hand and said, "Could I borrow a calculator for today? I forgot mine."

What a hero. Give this man a medal.

Heh.  I managed to forget mine for the AP Calc exam, which also happened to be on a day when my allergies were flaring up so hard that I was tripping off the Benadryl.  I’m really surprised that I not only passed, but did so comfortably, since I don’t remember the exam itself.
