The countdown to 3,000...
« on: 05 May 2015, 18:53 »

As of the strip for Wednesday (No. 2954), Jeph is 46 strips from 3,000 (give or take guest strips, fillers and birthdays).  It's notable that today, he mentioned on Twitter "Sometimes I wonder if QC will be the only 2003 comic left eventually." The good news is that "eventually," which indicates that the end game is a ways off yet.

Which brings up two thoughts:

1. Jeff has occasionally, but not always, done something special for "round numbers:" "The Talk" at 500, old lady nudity at 1,000, Pintsize the Thumblord at 1,500.
But not always - 2,000 was in the midst of the "Momo's new look" arc, 2,500 in the middle of the Dale Meets May arc. He's been just as likely to mark numbers with meaning - 666, 1337, etc. With a lot of plot irons in the fire yet, he may pick 3,000 for a major character development/introduction/departure, or he may do Yelling Bird reading from The Urban Dictionary. You never know, which is one thing I think a lot of us like. Just something to keep an eye on.

2 After 3,000...who knows how many more? I think if you told Jeph on the day he pur QC No. 1 on the web that he'd be doing at least 3,000 of them, his hand would have involuntarily cramped. His Twitter posts seem to show him these days sometimes having rough days, either because he's tired or the demons are having a better day than he is. Then again it IS his life's work, and that can be a pretty big incentive/hammer over your head.

Either way, he's taken us on a great ride, and he continues, in my opinion, to do so.

He could troll us all by having strip 3k be Yelling Bird saying "Sayanora, #####es" and then three panels of black - followed by four panels of black for strip 3001.

Then, comic 3002 resumes whatever storyline he was on before, as if nothing ever happened.

EDIT: I just realized: Comic 3001 would be a Friday. That would be one heck of a troll...

For the longest time I thought this was going to be our 3000. Well, ok sex at 3000. Oh. Fayesplosion? Nope.

I'm not sure if we're getting a big 3000. Since he had some big events that could be 3k worthy and chose not to drag it out. I think the major plot threads we have hanging are Dora showing up at Faye's door...or Sven doing it.

And of course, the prophetic dream coming to pass and Marigold getting pregnant with Baby Hanners.

I liked this comment, but it was not a TRUE 'liking.' It were of the ironic variety, because no.

he could write three years worth of the lower quality qc in his sleep, so mr. jaques has the option of phoning it in for a while if he likes.

does he earn patreon money for qc or is that just for the other thing?

During his recent depressive episode, Jeph Tweeted an interesting thing. Whilst he was willing to drop Alice Grove for a week or until he felt that his mind-set had stabilised enough to confront it, he felt producing QC strips for the entire week was an obligation, irrespective of his health and state of mind.

Depending on your thought processes, an obligation can be a good thing or a bad thing. Now, I get the impression that Jeph is still enjoying writing and drawing QC. However, I have seen obligations become a 'ball and chain' to people's minds and a burden to their lives. I really hope that this doesn't happen to him.

you make a very good point there, benrg. what people insist on calling a good work ethic can often be a bad thing.
it's odd that hard work can help us through so many things and yet it so easily becomes an albatross.

I think he was just having a bad few days. And I think he was feeling better when he went 'I just wrote 5 Alice scripts!'

Unless those scripts are fueled by Artist Torment. We'll see if Gavia sets any children on fire.

It's not - it's essentially finding out the guy's taken, just after figuring out you're made for each other. We're talking the usual monogamous couple, not poly.

This. That, and threesomes weren't exactly something spoken of much back when the song was written, let alone a song that popular. We're talking about a song that'll be 20 years old this year.

Same here!  Interesting fact: Did you know that we are ALMOST THIRTY?! Like, what the fuck?  How'd that happen?  I keep thinking it's still 2007 and there's still so much potential, but NOPE, our twenties are almost dead!

/complaint over.

Anyway, I hope comic #3000 is part of a long and fun party story featuring most of the characters from the 2014 cast poster.  We haven't had a big group get-together in a while...

Did you know that we are ALMOST THIRTY?!
Says you, old man. I'm still 27 :wow:

(That being said, I'm actually much happier than I was at 20. Twenty wasn't a great year for the most part.)

Wait, are you seriously saying that threesomes weren't a thing in the '90s?

I'm not saying they weren't a thing. I'm saying that it wasn't a big thing in mainstream media back then. Even if it wasn't the case, the context is everything, as TRVA123 said.

It's meeting the man of your dreams, and then meeting his beautiful wife.
Weird, I don't remember that line at all. I don't recall threesomes being ironic, even Alanis-ironic.

It's not - it's essentially finding out the guy's taken, just after figuring out you're made for each other. We're talking the usual monogamous couple, not poly.
Surely if you are made for each other, the guy will think the same and ditch his wife immediately, or ya'll will find an alternate solution (poly is a thing). If that doesn't happen... well, you weren't really made for each other.

Eh, poor wording on my part. Just because he's the man of her dreams, doesn't mean she's his.

But hey, we're all a little (or a lot!) pedantic sometimes.

pffft, Loki, this is an Alanis song, not a romantic comedy!

That flippant remark isn't even an accurate joke!

Since when does accuracy affect humor? Do you listen to Mitch Hedberg and get pissed that ducks DON'T eat free at Subway?
