Hawkman vs. the Invisible Man
« on: 09 May 2015, 10:39 »

Something not as serious as the usual things that are put into Discuss, but still a fairly enlightening subject. Out of the two super powers, having the ability to fly or being able to turn invisible, which would you choose and why.

And yes, I did listen to this recently

For the life of me I can't figure out how to make a poll

Flight - I'm a lousy time keeper and the ability to cut off several minutes or more of journey time by air-skipping would be received gratefully.

Flight.

In depressive episodes I feel invisible enough already.

Flight. It would be more fun and it's easier to use honorably.

The way to start a poll is to skip the "New Topic" button and instead click "New Poll" to start the new topic. I don't know any way to add a poll later unless you're a moderator. Since I'm adding it on your behalf, do you want any changes to the wording?

(I'm going to move this to Chatter later unless there's a good reason to leave it in Discuss).

It depends, would invisibility require me to remove my clothes or could I be like Claude in Heroes?

Actually, never mind, flight all the way. It might cure my fear of heights and high speeds, it would cut down on traveling time, I can see more obvious ways to help people with it, it sounds more fun etc.

Flight. Mostly because of the potential downsides of invisibility.

- Can you make your clothes and whatever you're carrying also invisible?
- Are you invisible in only the visible light spectrum, or also in the infrared and others?
- Don't jaywalk. Not even once. Nobody will stop for you... you're invisible, remember?
- Just about the only moral use of this I can concoct is using it to covertly film the police without them throwing some sort of fit about it.

So flight it is, then.

I'm gonna be different and say invisibility purely because social media and phones with cameras are a thing. If you're gonna go flying across the city, you're gonna get spotted. Everyone's gonna know who you are. You'll never be able to hide from it.

I'm not saying flight wouldn't be amazing, but I'm just thinking realistically ( :emotrex: ) here.

I would rather be invisible.  I promise to only use my power for nefarious purposes.

I suspect that would involve a string of unsolved bank robberies.

That's a super difficult question. On one hand, I wouldn't know what to do with invisibility, but on the other hand, I ride a bike and that feels like flying already, so...

Bank robberies?  No, the real money is in identity theft these days.

I feel that I should qualify my vote by adding that I would prefer flight without physical flight limbs. The human body plan, furniture and furniture really aren't built for wings of the right size to carry something of our size. I would like to be able to sit down and lie down again!

As for insectoid-style wings...? Ick. That's all I can say.

I'm sure if you actually flew you wouldn't think that of biking anymore :parrot:

Definitely flight for me.
