Nerdist, got me through senior English. Literally, I cited their episode with Felicia Day in my research paper

Nightvale's been mentioned.

Not Too Deep with Grace Helbig is hilarious

Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend, I recently discovered that one.

wtf with Marc Maron because come on. Dude is a legend in podcasting

You Made It Weird works for long workdays, stupid-long commutes because mildly interesting, sometimes funny, and crazy-long episodes.

Sourcefed is a good one, I recommend watching that on their youtube channel, though.

I've started listening to the No Sleep Podcast, not at night of course, and it's pretty good. The stories aren't really the stay with you kind of scary, but they're some pretty good stories

The Nerdist
The Bugle
Short Cuts (Josie Long, BBC Radio 4)
Distraction Pieces (Scroobius Pip - I highly recommend this one, Pip gets really good, candid answers out of his interviewees really easily)
ResidentAdvisor (if I need some sort of electronic techno or D&B mix that I can run to)
Steve Lamacq's Roundtable (kind of like BBC 6Music's version of NPR's All Songs Considered, with scoreboards)

I also like that people will take sound clips and animate them.

Ah, you are all beautiful people. I've just started doing boring work in an office full of bored podcast junkies.

Clearly I'm about to burn through my current stash very quickly and need much moar so will be checking throught the above mentions. I was thinking of avoiding This American Life for a minute because I don't want to become one of those people but have already come to the conclusion that this is a poor life decision.

First forays are:

The Moth Hour - true stories told to a live studio audience.
Answer Me This - 2 1/2 people respond to sent in queries on a diverse range of topics. R4-esque, not serious.
Wireless Nights - Jarvis Cocker does cyclical vaguely hypnotic ramblings.

What I would really like is a music heavy podcast that's appropriate for the sort of near mainstream taste that likes The Editors, First Aid Kit, The Pixies and doesn't need to punch something if the occasional Mumford track crops up. recommendations welcome

Two new podcasts; If I Were You and Mystery Show

If I Were You is an advice podcast run by two guys that should not be giving advice
Mystery Show follows a woman as she tries to solve different cases she's been presented with (the belt buckle episode almost made me cry)

Well it's kinda/sorta a podcast... But I've been listening to Galaxy News Network, by Shoddycast you Youtube. It's a weekly Fallout podcast, but they put it up on youtube with images of someone playing with Fallout 3/NV mods. And sometimes they'll cut to images of whatever they're talking about, but you really don't need to see them to understand what's going on.

I mean, don't get me wrong.  I still adore Night Vale.  But Alice Isn't Dead isn't dark in the "ha ha librarians are monsters" kind of way.  It's dark in the "there are real monsters and there is nothing you can do about it and they will hunt you down and eat you" kind of way.  Plus, it's got more of a continuity, to an extent.

It's only six episodes so far, so it's hard to tell, but I think it really does pick up after the first one, and I'm really loving it so far.

My newest recommendation is SPONTANEANATION from Paul F. Tompkins. Every episode he interviews someone in the first half and the second half is an improv sketch based loosely upon things that were talked about in the first half. It's really funny, and features such guests as Janet Varney, Marc Evan Jackson, and many more.

Coming back to this because I recently discovered 'Anna Faris is Unqualified,' and for the past week have been working my way through every episode, including the ones with folk I've never heard of, which is the crazy bit. I don't do that with any podcasts that feature guests. That's how much fun this podcast is, and also, Chris Pratt shows up from time to time because they're married and all that.

it's fucking hilarious.

A doctor recommended a podcast called "Sleep with me". It's a guy who tells stories interesting enough to pull your attention off whatever is keeping you awake, rambling enough that your logical mind has to withdraw, and in a soothing monotone that lulls your security-related emotions.

I stayed awake stimulated by the first two or three I listened to but after it became a known quantity to my mind it's been knocking me out as reliably as an Ambien pill (which is less than 100%).

I'm involved in the making of a podcast. It's a couple of friends and me having a few drinks and indulging in pub chatter. We're The Dysfunction Room. I can't promise you won't have wasted an hour of your life listening to an episode, but what were you going to spend it on anyway?

Anyone else making their own podcast?

I don't really *do* podcasts at all.
I've been a subject of one. but that's about it.

The nearest I come to them is every now and again watching "Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast" ("RHLSTP!!")
But not nearly enough to call myself an aficionado.

And I don't suppose my having an online radio show twice a week (mainly music) counts as "doing" podcasts, because our broadcast licence doesn't allow us to make the show archives available for download.

We live in the darkest timeline, or at least an offshoot from that. Why not get a shot of positivity? Try Wonderful! A positivity podcast from a couple who just wants to talk about things that make them happy. They have a thing in an early episode about how wombats kill predators with their butts, which is wonderful and pretty much as close to QC-related as anything

Speaking of the darkest timeline: When I went on holiday I downloaded Tales from the Afternow, a series of transmissions from the dystopian future describing the state of the world and the life of the protagonist. I never listen to podcasts, nor audiobooks, because I have trouble keeping my attention on audio without also having something to focus my eyes on, but this was captivating enough that it was easy to get lost in while lying in bed at the end of the day. The narrator's voice, the ambient sound effects, the subject matter, it's all a joy to listen to.

The belt episode had me in tears

I've added two new podcasts to my rotation, both Conan themed. The first is Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend, where he sits down with old guests/people he knows. It's all framed around him wanting to be their friend but it's more of an informal interview. The second is Inside Conan: An Important Hollywood Podcast where to of the people involved with the show take a dive into the weeks episodes and behind the scenes.

Three things have brought me to tears;

- Getting caught in the nards (more often than I care to admit to)
- Having a panic attack and convincing myself that my wife was dead
- The belt episode

Only one of those is truly beautiful.

I've finally caught up on Welcome to Nightvale and KingsFall AM, so I tried 4 new podcasts:
-Broadswords: an actual play all women D&D podcast. The music and sound is impeccable, but 10 episodes in the story didn't have a hold over me
-A Horror Borealis: a Monster of the Week actual play. Again, couldn't get into the story
-Rude Tales of Magic: D&D actual play that's hilarious
-The Magnus Archives: short horror stories with a connected universe

Only four episodes at the moment, because of the Covid-19 lockdown has left a couple of us incredibly stressed.

I gotta recommend Buckets of Duckets. It’s a couple of comics from Louisiana, talking about stuff. They’re good dudes, and Chase is absolutely gonna fight Connor McGregor eventually, but they could use y’all’s help in getting him to finally recognize the challenge. Because he’s too scared, otherwise.

I've gotten into Your Dead To Me, "the history podcast for people who don't like history... and those who do." Every episode they have on someone who knows something about a historical figure or event and a comedian to shoot the shit with. It ends up being funny and you learn something you might not have, like where soccar came from, at least in England.
