Okay, I'm running dry again. This was the best I could come up with.

By 'follow', I mean the central character for more than one strip.

As I explained last week, I've got a feeling that we're going to go back to Marten and Claire and find out where they are going this cold, cold afternoon. Where do I think? I think it will be to Jim's place where Veronica has moved in and appointed herself the cast's 'den mother' (which will have... consequences, especially those who have already got all the interfering mothers they need and don't need more).

Trying to capitalize on Let's Plays Claire starts a Let's Read where she records herself quietly reading.

It is a massive failure.

I was about to ask "isn't that just an audio book" and then I saw "quietly" and realized you meant a video.

I'm thinking the reading equivalent of a Let's Play would be the text scrolling by on the screen while the commentator cracks jokes about the text.

I think it might actually work...

I'm thinking that it would actually be a voiceover reading the text over the top of video of a bunch of people reenacting the reader's unique interpretation of that text.

This is what a "Let's Read" is to me.

He reads things completely unspoiled, knowing NOTHING about what's about to happen, and comments as he's reading.  It's usually hilarious.

I can't imagine any of these Let'sRead formats working, except possibly what Tova suggested with people re-enacting one interpretation, but that would only work if they were reading poorly-written fanfiction or something similar.

It could be a 'Let's read" of her just reading a story out loud. I like to listen to French ones of books I am familiar with, to help me learn.

I like her hair in panel 4 the best, but I'd imagine the short one makes the most sense considering her line of work. long hair can get caught in things, catch on fire, etc. her hoodie's been ripped and stained, clearly it's a dangerous/messy job.

I like the last look, but it's probably too much like Tai's.

Just for that I probably would have went with 5 or 4, but with the new glasses and the cutoff sleeves(Which are pretty cool).

It would look better if she had a "proper" buzzcut, with little or no fringe. It doesn't really look "Faye" at all though.

And you'd think that at some point that arm would be removed to fix it, rather than working on it in-situ.

I like the last look, but it's probably too much like Tai's.

This. I didn't care for it when Tai had an extremely similar one a while back, either. The last panel gives Faye a very stereotypical 'butch lesbian'* vibe, which doesn't really fit considering what we know so far of her character.

*Note: I don't mean this term in an offensive way, but I wasn't sure how to get the idea across otherwise. Someone please supply me with terminology that is acceptable, if it exists.

Ugh, the return of the horrible undercut style. Panels four and five are so adorable, and suit Faye SO WELL.

EDIT: Now that I'm thinking about it, I think it says more about Jeph than anything else that he seems incapable of having his female characters remain long-haired for long, or free of any tattoos and piercings. Emily's hair went kaput, Claire's suddenly all pierced up and "punky", shit, it's not even just the females; Clinton's got ink and a buzzed 'do now. Tai's gone from short-haired and slightly boyish to somehow buxom with that same kind of hairstyle, and now the only one really left is Marigold. Hopefully Emily or Dora keep their longer hair for at least a little while before they likewise get decimated.

Then again, maybe this is an issue of perspective; none of my friends have multitudes of tattoos, undercut hair, gauges or other piercings. A small/medium tattoo here or there, simple lobe piercing on a couple, that sort of thing. Maybe this is normal elsewhere, but it just seems strange to me.

Butch alone is a good descriptor I think, especially since Faye isn't lesbian.

And... I don't know. Faye does cut her hair short sometimes, and it would fit her job. Long hair would be too warm (it gets hot when you weld), and could be impractical. She's not the most femme girl (it would be weirder if Penelope or Claire cut their hair).

But, apart from the haircut - did she get more buff? I mean, regular exercise would help her depression, and she does a lot of manual labour now.  I think her new job is awesome - I hope she makes more than as a barista, she does something she actually likes and is good at, and her skills are appreciated. I don't know if she and Dora had their talk, but I really hope we get to see it, especially now that Faye is in a better place.

I took this comic as one month per panel, which lines up with what people were theorizing when we first saw Emily and Dora after the time skip.

Okay, after the new hairstyle poll, we need yet another poll on what montage music needs to be playing over this comic.

Any song other than an 80s smash hit need not apply.

Edit: my vote is for "You're The Best"

Panel three hair is my favorite, but panel for is close enough to require a photo finish. Both look fantastic. Even as a both a lesbian and a punk, I don't think that final panel hairstyle works for her. She'd do better with a full buzzcut.

Butch alone is a good descriptor I think, especially since Faye isn't lesbian.

I'd agree with this. I know a woman who is as seriously stereotypical butch but is pure hetero. Her boys tend to the hyper masculine too. Get's humorous at times...

Okay, after the new hairstyle poll, we need yet another poll on what montage music needs to be playing over this comic.

Any song other than an 80s smash hit need not apply.

Edit: my vote is for "You're The Best"

Danger Zone is the obvious choice.

Man, I was loving Faye's hair progression in these panels until she got the under-shave. :(

That makes it, what, Clinton, Tai, and now Faye? Ugh. The undercut is about as much of a repellent to me as a man bun (Looking at you, Sven). If she was gonna shave her hair at all she should have committed to a full shave. Would have looked better.

WOAH!!! Hold the phone!!!!!!

Did we just have a major Time Jump in the last two Panels????!!!!

Tomorrow we learn that Marten and Claire are going to kindergarten to pick up the triplets.  Sam's younger siblings, that is.

Later this week, Sam stops by her Aunt Sam's place to play video games after Marigold's sudden departure.  Everyone always comments that Marten and Claire's oldest daughter and Marten's stepsister look so much alike, but they usually just chalk it up to one of the many weird-but-harmless genetic engineering pranks Hannelore played on her friends after she took over her parents' businesses but before she tried to take over the world.

Later everyone visits Steve's grave.  Well, monument.  Well, national memorial.  The US Government never admitted that Steve was working for them in any way, but he did save the planet (twice), so.

It's been nineteen years.  Faye's scar doesn't hurt anymore.  All is well.

I find panels 2 and 5 particularly interesting. These aren't fight-related injuries; the robots are coming to her for other maladies too! Additionally, panels 1 and 6 show that's she's becoming more skilled with complex stuff like fixing synthetic pseudo-musculature. She isn't just the bodywork gal anymore, she's becoming 'Dr Faye - Robo-Medicine Woman'!

I'm wondering if Jeph is giving us a clue about her ultimate destiny here. Will she go mainstream and start caring for the area's robot denizens in a more open and fully-legal way? It occurs to me that Marigold could help out in such an enterprise as the software expert!

The jury's out about the hairdo; I'll have to see if I can get used to it but, on first viewing, I'm not a fan.

I agree with those who are saying that this is following Faye from her last shown conversation with Bubbles to the strip's 'present', which began with Dora expressing her satisfaction with Emily's job performance. I have settled on six months, so it's probably early- to mid-March

I´m not a fan of undercuts either, but I think it fits Fayes personality. She´s got that hardboiled badass-engineer appeal to her, rather Zoe Wash than Kaylee, if you know Joss Whedons Firefly.

About the hair growth: hair seems to grow quite fast in the QC-verse. Dora and now Faye.
Or maybe the timejump ist one and a half years instead of only a half...
Anyway, I cant´t wait so see what time has done to the other characters. Maybe Hanners has grown longer hair, too?
