okay, so this shows that the time skip happened at 3126, and yesterday's comic was just showing faye's catchup. the last comic before the time skip showing people outside was 3105 which appears to be late spring/early summer, so let's assume that the time skip was from like May to January? yeah?

Nah, AprilArcus had a very thorough and detailed timeline worked out before Jeph borked it a few months ago, but it was sometime around September/October before the big jump.

And considering that 3119 was the last comic before the time skip, and the last of 2015 before the Bembo specials, today's strip sorry, the Faye montage might've worked better as the first comic of the new year/after the skip than 3126 did, but that's just me being nitpicky.

I think jeph pays less attention to the timeline than the fans do. it looks very much like spring in 3105. if it was october in massachusetts, the trees would be orangey brown, not bright springtimey green.

If it were January, though, wouldn't there be more snow? And those jackets look more like fall jackets, to me.

Anyone else think we're gonna follow Momo next? I get the feeling Jeph wants to follow through with her crush on Sven, especially considering how new the ACTUAL (read: not just Pintsize being creepy) prospect of human/AI romance could be.

Feel better soon, Jeph.

I think Hanners' hair type has changed. When she was introduced, she had straight hair (which may have just been limited by Jeph's style at the time), and now it seems to be floofy/wavy. Just a thing I noticed.

Hair texture can change naturally over time a bit. My hair goes wavier when it's shorter but the longer and heavier it gets, it seems straighter.

Straightening irons are also a thing. My hair's very wavy, but I can get it pretty dang straight with one of those. Which is rare that I bother, since my hair is also ridiculously thick, and it takes like an hour to do it properly.

Hanners' hair's been drawn wavy for a while now, it's just not as noticeable when it's short. See Example A. There's probably earlier examples, but I'm too lazy to go strip-by-strip right now.

Completed the strip but left out the copyright.   And the bottom blurb he's been putting with the copyright.

I am wrong in remembering there was one there in the pre-coloured version?

The title is the same too; perhaps it could be taken now to apply to Hannelore's progress?

Thinking about it, a tank in africa would be pretty hot. I mean, really hot. So maybe still a poor choice.
Okay, I'll just keep my distance to tigers anyway.
In Africa, you would not have to worry about tigers anyway. Unless you were driving your tank through a zoo.

I think previous strips have shown Hannelore's hair as naturally wavy (I don't have time right now to search for the strip where it goes "Floof!"). Presumably she'd had it straightened in her early appearances, but gave it up. Considering that most hair-straightening treatments involve toxic chemicals, I'm not surprised.

It might just be me, but going by Hanners look in the third panel, it wouldn't surprise me that she's approaching the point where she might be ready to consider a relationship with someone beyond just friendship with them.

The really effective ones are getting harder to find as more hairdressers come to terms with the fact that chronic exposure to such chemicals is not such a great idea.

On a side note: Jeph doesn't always pre-post the comic for Patreon patrons, but he has recently. I would suggest that it might be a good policy (looking at our Mod team) to not comment on a comic until it has actually been posted on the main site.

Though I'll admit that I kinda flaunted this earlier when I thought a major ####storm was about to happen because of Hanner's hairstyle change...

Although the flashbacks of Hanners as a kid with long straight hair, and her fear of such things was worse, I don't think that her father would let that be done to her.  It's entirely possible that (IIRC Welu) was right, and it's just that length inbetween where it gets wavy.  That resembles my own hair.  Maybe she's comfortable enough with the chemicals involved now that she decided to make it wavy.

It seems Faye and Bubbles have become close enough friends that she sees Bubbles as moral support. Also Bubbles is willing to be that moral support. They've come a long way.

So does Bubbles have the same coat as Hannelore, or is it more of a basic black trenchcoat?

Why wouldn't Bubbles have a coat? Adam Jensen (admittedly a cyborg rather than a robot, with fleshy parts to keep warm), wears a trench-coat over his armour and prosthetics in "civilian" environments.

Character development maybe? Bubbles may have become more willing to make gestures at blending in with her smaller and squishier fellow citizens. Tossing on a coat could make her less intimidating.

Well the fact that she's willing to go out among other people is something. When she and Faye met, she was in hermit mode, rarely if ever leaving the robot arena. And the last time we saw her going out and meeting Faye's friends didn't exactly go all that well.

Honestly, I'm more interested in the fact that apparently after all these months Faye and Dora still haven't interacted at all.  It's bloody difficult to avoid someone who has the same friend circle as you.

Does Dora, though, interact with the friend circle outside the shop? And she lives over the bridge in Amherst, which to what Faye calls "small state people" is the same as being a light-year away. (This is something I've seen for myself IRL)

I think Dora does interact with the friend circle outside the shop. IMO the answer is that Faye has probably given up a lot of social interaction in order to avoid Dora. Hence the strong desire to patch things up. Note that she said "I even miss Dora" - which implies that the ability to see her other friends at the cafe again is the primary motivation.

Oh yeah, this is true people. I had a friend who's house I went over every day growing up, then ten years ago we moved like 3 blocks away, friendship just slowly died and we saw eachother less and less. Now I haven't seen or heard from him once in the past 3 years. And we only moved 3 blocks.

Bubbles got a haircut between panels three and four.

Faye's new look is pretty badass. If I were Dora and saw the new Faye™ walking up to the door of COD, I'd hide. If I saw her walking up with Bubbles in tow, I'd be out the back door and seriously consider never coming back.

I can fully understand that. I'm not comfortable in a big rowdy party situation, but a handful of friends at the cafe would be less threatening.
Also Bubbles can feel more valued now: she's being asked to provide moral support, whereas previously she was being challenged to "get out there and socialise because it's good for you".

I wonder if Dora and her staff will be as intimidated by Bubbles as Marten was on their first encounter at the party.

Four to six months, my friends. Four to six months and Faye still hasn't gone to make her peace with Dora. I think that, if we ever had any doubt the degree to which being fired from CoD broke Faye's spirit, this should dispel it. Even now, she's terrified of facing the consequences of what she regards to be her worst personal failure. So terrified that she needs her best friend to come with her to hold her hand.

I'm thinking that Jeph is working towards a long set-piece, starting next week, with everyone at CoD and we learn, by their conversations and interactions, just what has been going on in their lives in the last half-year.

Suggestions:
  • Claire has moved into Marten's apartment; Marten may be considering proposing to her;
  • Marriage certificate aside, most people think of Claire as 'The Younger Mrs Reed' to the point where Clinton rather resents Veronica's increased influence over her;
  • Faye and Bubbles spend a lot of time, off-duty, hanging out; they've become best friends without ever knowing it;
  • Dora and Tai have become... sugary in their domesticity;
  • No-one knows what is going on between Emily and Clinton, least of all Emily and Clinton (and they prefer it that way);
  • Hannelore has developed a strong relationship (not romantic but very emotionally intimate) with someone and is currently drifting down DeRiver Denial about it;
  • Penny has so perfectly fitted into the role of 'Deputy Manager' that she's seemed to have always had it; in many ways, she's more in charge of CoD than Dora; Dora occasionally feels insecure about this but Tai keeps her grounded on the subject.
I am hoping, hoping, hoping that Bubbles has an old army great-coat that still has her old unit badge on the shoulders. Maybe it also has a distinct lighter area where her 'fruit salad' of awards for valour were.

If Bubbles' coat isn't bright pink with fluffy bunnies on it, I'm going to be crushingly disappointed.  :cry:

She will develop an interest in Mr. Burny, who will reciprocate. Dora and Emily will fight over who gets to be the flower girl.

Apologies for the double post but I just had a STARTLING REALIZATION about Mr Burny.

By day, he is a humble caffeinated beverage dispenser. Humored yet unappreciated by the fleshy humans he is indentured to. After closing hours when everyone has gone, he makes his way to a certain skate park where his true colours shine strong and proud. He is...Hank The Dismemberer.

Bubbles got a haircut between panels three and four.

The panel zoomed out slightly.

And the reason he's been hiding out at CoD is that he wants to help Pizza Girl in her crusade for edible justice, but he's never gotten Penelope alone to ask her.

Mr. Burny: Pizza Girl, I want to help you on your crusade against Doctor Calzone!
Penelope: For the last time, I'm not Pizza Girl!
Hannelore (overhearing): I'll handle this. You go back to your office for a moment.

Hannelore (to Mr. Burny): I thought I made it clear... You're not welcome!

Actually, this does make sense, given that Hannelore is able to summon sky-pizza at will. Perhaps the business with the glowing gadget was to distract people from her innate cheese & tomato based superpowers.

Mr. Burny ("Hank? Who's Hank? I don't know anyone named Hank, no sir ... Though I'm sure he's a fine person and an excellent figh --- er, whatever he does, which is not necessarily fighting.") is the unacknolwedged offspring of DEATHBOT 9000 and ... VespaBot.

It would also explain the aggressive behaviour when first introduced; she was still coming down from her last fight with dr calzone.
