Questions for a young AI
« on: 26 Jan 2016, 10:16 »

Imagine Momo at home, with Marigold coming in from the mailbox and handing her a letter.  "This one is for you," she says, "I got one  from the same people."  And they sit down together to open their letters.

(A letter?  An old-fashioned paper letter?  Momo doesn't know anybody who uses PaperNet, the bandwidth is too low and the packet times are ridiculous!)

It's from a law firm.  Apparently Sony corporation is facing a class action product liability suit about its 'KawaiiPC' chassis, and the records show that Marigold and Momo shelled out big $$$ for a replacement chassis, so they have questions about whether they want to be included in the lawsuit.

"Did you experience incidents of personal abuse or injury as a result of your original chassis choice?"

"Do you feel that the KawaiiPC chassis made incidents of disrespect, injury, or abuse more likely?"

"In your opinion, did Sony's inclusion of an electrical self-defense mechanism indicate an expectation that AnthroPCs in the KawaiiPC chassis were more likely to face injury or abuse?"

"Has the electrical self-defense mechanism seen fully justified use in your case?"

"Has the electrical self-defense mechanism been abused and caused unwarranted injury in your case?"

[To Momo]: "Did you choose your original housing freely?"

[To Marigold]:  "Was your companion AI's choice to be housed in a KawaiiPC chassis a significant factor in your original decision?"

"In what ways were you dissatisfied with the KawaiiPC chassis?"

"Would you advise new companion AIs to avoid the KawaiiPC chassis? If so why?"

And then, when they turned the paper over, there, on the other side, in the middle of the other side ... parenthesized ... quotated.... they read the following words.

"How do you feel about eels?"

Whereupon Marigold looks at Momo and says, "We never did unpack that aquarium thing, did we?"

As I think about it, I realize something.  An original KawaiiPC chassis, with a fully functioning cattle-prod defense system and n aquarium thing that's never been unpacked, would probably turn into a VERY sought-after collector's item after the lawsuit gets Sony to drop that model like a hot rock.
