Given that Jeph writes her name in all caps, I think it's an acronym.

CORPSE WITCH... I wouldn't even begin to know what that would mean.

He wrote Corpse Witch in caps just once AFAIK.

It's fun to extrapolate, but I think it's a bit easy to get carried away.

Wait, it wasn't even in-comic? That would've been good to know before I read through 100 comics looking for it before giving up :parrot:

Also wait, that tweet isn't even in all caps.

Someone else actually already wrote a decent Corpsewitch story.  She doesn't even exist as a legal person.  She does this NOT MERELY for money, but for redemption.

Corpse Witch was introduced soon after Bubbles. Because Bubbles' name was so incongruous with her appearance, I had assumed that Jeph had introduced the next new character as CORPSE WITCH in all caps purely for the humorous juxtaposition with Bubbles' introduction. But at least one poster assumed that this was how it had to be styled, and it became forum head canon (although there have been a number of different renderings of her name since then).

I realise that my interpretation is BORING AND THAT I AM A WET BLANKET.  :-P

Veronica is clearly a wonderful wicked-but-not-evil stepmother. I think that it's a sign of how close she and Sam have become that Sam felt able to be vulnerable around her. I wonder if she's ever called her 'mom' in a distracted moment?

And now the Sam issue is resolved.  That was quick.

This is a huge leap, but maybe those 'lets play' microphones will be used instead to commentate on robo-fighting. That would make one HELL of a more original/interesting Youtube/Twitch channel: video of live gear-grinding gladiators with a hyperactive teenage host.
Sam recently bought a Blue Yeti USB mic. She wouldn't be caught dead with one of those "let's play" things. (Honestly!)

The art in this one is amazing. The eyes going through stages of 'trying not to cry'. Different perspective in each frame, reflecting the dialogue perfectly. We've come a long way from the days of 'four near-identical frames plus music reference' comics.

Someone on the Subreddit (correctly, IMO at least) postulated that the Beans' divorce probably left Sam with profound abandonment issues. Because of  that, it must be exceedingly difficult for her to not get possessive of friends. It also sends her into the rollercoaster that we saw here when they aren't able to be in contact with her as much as she wants.

Also notable, is that Sam felt she could open up like that to her adopted mom.  That's trust.  And it's earned.

Now I REALLY want to Sam meet Bubbles.

I just noticed that today marks the 19th straight strip without Marten -- and I think that's fine with everyone.  Jeph has gotten REALLY good at telling stories that stand on their own, which means that Marten isn't needed to tie the strips together.

Yes, I'm sure Sam does have major abandonment issues where her mom is concerned, since there are mainly two reasons why Mom doesn't end up with main custody of the kids after divorce; she was proven totally unfit beyond a doubt (profoundly mentally ill, addict, etc) or...she just didn't fight Jim for custody, and let him have her. In other words, she abandoned Sam (far as Sam is concerned at least). Worst case, Sam may not have seen her mother since before divorce papers were filed; she may have just walked out and not seen or talked to her daughter since.

I would suspect that would be a moment of sufficient emotional weight that it would need to be "on camera".

I don't think it's that drastic. During Dora's date with Jim Sam was apparently staying at her mother's house, though she chose to walk home early.

And yeah, choosing to leave her mom's house early says a lot about their relationship, but it's not nearly as drastic as a complete lack of contact.

Well, I did say it was worst case. But it does look like the mom-daughter relationship is not very good there. Like I said, I'm sure her mom simply chose not to fight for custody, and Sam likely took that as Mom doesn't really want her, regardless of what the actual reasons may have been; for example, maybe her parents realized a long bitter custody battle would be really bad for Sam, and decided that Jim should be custodial parent, since he seems to get along best with Sam. Somewhat against the general trend, but possible.

My aunt's second husband had two kids from his first marriage.  The older one never really assimilated - he was fourteen, and spent most of his non-school time on his grandparents' ranch, so we rarely saw him.  The younger one, though, did.

The original custody arrangement was that she lived with her mom most of the time and visited her dad frequently.  That changed after a few years (IIRC the last straw was when she accidentally sexy-IMed my dad.  She was eleven).  By the time my aunt divorced the guy, Daughter saw her as more her mom than her actual mom.  When she graduated high school, my aunt was the one who did the mother-daughter Graduation Trip To New York with her.

Could be something similar with Sam and her mom.

This is the point where Faye cements her credentials as Sam's 'Cool Older Sis'. Probably as an 'unwholesome influence' too but I think that Jim missed the bus with respect to keeping Sam on the straight-and-narrow some time ago!

Meanwhile, panel five lets us see the Bean family together and remember just how normal they are. Normal is the thing that Veronica has been craving for some time, after all!

The Dale/May interaction at 2490 went 25 strips without Marten. Then there was a few queststrips (including Marten but not penned by Jeph) and the comic continued with Fayes promotion for another week before Marten finally reappeared properly. So it has definitely happened before that Jeph writes long sequences without Marten, but they are rare indeed. And quite fun to read. Since the timeskip, it seems like all the Marten/Claire strips have been about how happy they are together and most of the action has been elsewhere.

Warning - while you were typing a new reply has been posted on a completely different topic. A review of the post is not necessary

That wasn't typing. She has a ECCommunications 'Cyberpunk' direct brainwave reader implant. Most of the cool kids do these days! It lets her text whilst welding!

No, I'm not sure if that's parody, given how advanced some tech can be in the QC universe...

[EDIT]
P.S.:
Is this the first time that we've seen Faye coming home seriously exhausted, emotionally as well as physically, after a day at work? I'm thinking that, after the relatively easy life at Coffee of Doom (apart from the occasional idiot customer), this is Faye's first real experience with having a job that demands a lot of personal energy to do and to keep! I wonder how this will affect her perception of the world and of her lifestyle?
