She's singing a Sami folk song. In my head canon, anyway. The Sami people are the indigenous inhabitants of Lappland and cool with reindeer.

Well, I don't know if it was meant to be, but it pretty much is yoiking.

Spelled "joik", but pronounced "yoik".  (Don't ask how "Y" is pronounced)

some Heavy joiking

I've seen it spelt both ways. Yoik is just a transliteration. It would definitely sound weird with the Finnish "Y", though. Like gargling mämmi. :-D

I know that the idea of taking a carb and serving it with another sounds weird, but it's one of those things you grow up with and never question until you're much older.

I would never question a chip butty.

I've put fries/chips on hamburgers/sandwiches, but a sandwich only made of fries/chips?

And brown sauce.

It's the most delicious way to choke.

Brown sauce is gravy, right? If you add mozzarella to that, it's a disco fries sandwich!

Bah, mozzarella. The only correct way to go with that is cheese curds.

Brown sauce is gravy, right?

Nope; brown sauce as I presume TinPenguin is talking about, is made from tomatoes, molasses, dates, apples, tamarind, vinegar and spices. Occasionally raisins or anchovies are added to the blend. Its got kind of a peppery taste. Sometimes marketed in the States as steak sauce.

I'll be over here in the corner quietly munching on cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches.

Also quite nice, especially on a warm Summer afternoon and a cool drink.

As a kid, I used to enjoy Vegemite and potato chips* sandwiches. Because too much salt was never enough, I guess. My brother preferred tomato sauce** on his chip sandwiches.

I'm so tempted to start a Marmite v. Vegemite holy war right now.

Ha! Maybe you should? I'm actually a huge fan of both, though.  :-D

Marmite probably wins on points, though Vegemite has the advantage of childhood nostalgia.

Note that I am not referring here to the pale imitation produced in Australia by Sanitarium. I am of course referring to British Marmite which, unfortunately, must be sold in Australia as Our Mate.

Saturday morning, go to a local bakery, get a freshly baked demi-baguette. Then its down to a nearby butcher for get some bacon or on-site made sausages.

Go home, cook up the sausage or bacon and have it in the demi-baguette, now that's comfort food.

I get all my Meat from the two local Independent Butchers that we are lucky to have here in our small Shopping Precinct.  Haven't brought Meat from the big Chain Store Supermarkets in nearly a decade.

We've already seen Hanner's twin... She's unlikely to be hanging around with reindeer. Unless she was leaving the head of one in someone's bed.....
???
Which strip?

I forget the strip number but Hannelore has had an anxiety nightmare where she dreamt she had been kidnapped by her evil identical twin, who was a contract assassin and that she was about to be murdered so her twin could take over her life and escape the authorities. That strip was genuinely disturbing on several levels, especially Hannelore's genuine terror at the scenario.

Another strip had Hannelore hallucinating she had taken over her mother's company and was about to execute a James Bond villain-style global genocide for some reason. This hallucination was so real and compelling that Faye and Dora had to snap her out of a panic attack.

Spelled "joik", but pronounced "yoik".  (Don't ask how "Y" is pronounced)

some Heavy joiking

If memory serves, the j being said like a y comes from Old Latin.

There's some debate on what Latin originally sounded like, but the Germanic languages actually help with that.

From what I remember learning, there was no J in Latin (for example, Julius Caesar would've been Iulius Caesar and have been pronounced Yulius Kye-zar). It's also why Jesus's cross had INRI. The Is stood for Jesus and Jews.

I'm not sure what the origin of the letter "j" is, but pronouncing "j" is sort of an aberration in English. Most European languages pronounce it either as the sound that English spells as "y", or as the sound "s" in "measure":

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J#/media/File:Pronunciation_of_J_in_Europa.png

Also, as the map in the link gives no pronunciation for "j" in Italy, I'm assuming modern Italian doesn't have the letter, continuing the tradition of the Latin language?

AIUI theoretically modern Italian lacks J, K, W, X and Y. In practice I think there are plenty of loan words with them in, and I believe computer keyboards in Italy include them.
