DR E-C: "Bubbles, you know about Hannelore's greatest fear?"

BUBBLES: "Yes, she is afraid that she has a twin sister who was built to be a killing machine."

DR E-C: "Bubbles... that fear...? It's based on something real. Thank god that it went wrong and Hannelore's twin... it never worked out. We couldn't replicate homicidal psychopathy in her neural net. The military shuttered the program and everything was destroyed for the sake of deniability. All except the prototype; security was ensured by locking off her memories and implanting a belief in her that they were so traumatic that she never wanted to experience them again."

BUBBLES: "Why are you telling me this, Doctor?"

DR E-C: "Bubbles... My joint greatest creation; my other 'perfect daughter'... Bubbles, it's you!"

This does explain why Hanners knew exactly what was needed to make her see unicorns with the tea.

Calling it now. We're going to get a murder-mystery of the holiday season. In the last strip before the holidays, CW is going to get bumped off and we're going to have a skate-park full of suspects.

Jeph can call the arc "Who Shocked CW?"

Sounds like a "Murder on the Orient Express" scenario.

Why does Corpse Witch hold a hand up to areas of her plastic that were targets of attack?

It's something that makes sense for organic people, but Jeph said once that AnthroPCs don't feel pain the way organic people do.

Maybe she's doing damage assessment.

Or maybe she's considering the damage that Bubbles could have easily inflicted to her, and is cherishing the fact that she still has a neck. also, i believe that this post belongs in the last WCDT.

Marty comes in for the comic relief. I don't mind the darker side so much, personally, but I'm glad to see Faye is still sober, at least for now.

I just want to point out that the ability to parse speech and dig out information such as "boss" and "Corpse Witch" being the same entity is one of the things that our AI research still has a really hard time implementing. Voice activated stuff like Cortana and Siri are doing their best, but when faced with that paragraph they likely would still not be able to draw out that connection

I think, Faye, is that what Marten is saying is that your problems are different enough from other people's problems that he is struggling to keep up. I recommend that you just settle down for a few minutes and let him go through that wall of text bit by bit and get the gist of your current issues.

The thing is, though... her problems aren't that different; it is more of a degree of the uniquely AI flavour than any weirdness. Congratulations, Faye, you're actually a normal person!

Given that, I'm thinking that we're at the end of a long day for Martin and his brain isn't quite able at this time to handle this.

I think the second question Marten should ask is how she got the name Corpse Witch.  I'd certainly like an answer to know.

Not Steve though, he's probably just eating cereal.

True, and Momo has given us more than one example. Corpse Witch seems less likely to mimic squishy behavior given that she's a separatist.

I'm really wondering how Jeremy came to be at the skate park. It doesn't seem to be his natural home and I really can't think of what he would bring to the 'robot fighting league' thing. I find myself musing that, originally, before Corpse Witch took it in the direction she wanted to go, the whole thing was meant to be a refuge for homeless or distressed robots.

"Harness your anger" is advice that could lead to good things or bad things. I've got the feeling that Bubbles has a bucket list of things that she'd like to do and people she'd like to do it to.

Wait....a character is giving good advice in QC?! 'Tis a sign of the apocalypse!

When you mostly just sit around in a warehouse all day with no-one to talk to except cargo crates, you've got a lot of time to think about stuff and work out how to solve others' problems. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Jeremy were a self-taught psychologist.

He's quirky though; anyone who actively seeks out Squirrel Girl is quirky.

I imagine that sentient assembly arms would be handy* when reassembling robots.

PREDICTION:
The encryption key will turn out to be something silly like "TheQuickBrownFoxJumpedOverTheLazyD0g123456789". Corpse Witch assumed that no-one would try something so obvious as this. Pintsize, being Pintsize, guesses it on the first try and mutters that it was the password on his first on-line porn account.

Meanwhile, with reference to Jeremy, I visualise him as being a 'potted palm' design. He has a fixed base with several arms extending out of it with a high degree of flexibility in them. As well as the eye we've seen he also has various tools and manipulators. The eye-on-a-stalk makes sense; he might have been designed to use it to look inside things he's working on to ensure cuts and welds are smooth on both sides.

I'm just wondering "why a sentient assembly arm?" in the first place. It seems like a pointless thing for it to be all an AI does, even if not quite on "I make toast fun" level. Surely an AI could run a whole assembly line, at least?

(Well, that and why Jeremy can't get the digital version of his comics!)

It's possible that's the only chassis that was available after his fighting body was to badly damaged to be repaired. Maybe he's Hank the Dismemberer! It's also possible that he's more like Station. He embodies the skate park and helps to maintain it through is various remotes, as well as takes care of the internet security and does the fight broadcasting. He just interacts with the single-body types at the park though his servos, rather than an omnipresent voice though the speaker system. And maybe he just likes physical copies of comics.

It might be that it is the chassis that best suits his skill-set and interests. Maybe he likes building stuff and so was installed in a body most suited to pursue his vocation and art. It might be interesting to have a few strips of him and Faye talking about the finer points of aesthetic metalworking.

Union rules. The URAA (United Robot Assembly Arms) contract requires individual AIs on each assembly arm. And you don't mess with union rules. Even if you're in organized crime. Hell, especially if you're in organized crime. They are more organized than you are.

Union rules can be used to justify any crazy thing you like, because they justify so much crazy stuff in the real world. Union rules are why I'm not allowed to shovel snow out of my own driveway, even if I need to get the car out at 9 AM and Smith College's unionized facility crews don't show up at my (rented from Smith) house until 11.

It's a known fact that some people are great at giving relationship advice even if they're not great at their own relationships.  I'm one of them.  For example, within 5 minutes of an online WoW friend, that I'd never met in real life, telling us about why he was fighting with his wife, I said "Dude, don't take this wrong, but first impressions, it sounds like she's cheating on you."   Three days later, he came on and said it turned out I was right.

Little known fact*: Pearl Jam's hit song is actually inspired by him.

Reminds me of MST3K's Gypsy.

Maybe Corpse Witch is getting careless if she forgets she has a sentient potentially omnipresent arm at her facility or maybe she doesn't think Jeremy can move against her and doesn't care what she talks about while he's around.

CW may very well forget about Jeremy from time to time. Certain classes of people are often invisible to their "superiors" (as they think of themselves.) These include servants, waiters/waitresses, secretaries, janitors, etc. And having worked my way through college as a waiter for a catering firm that handled functions for the elite of the North Carolina state government, I know what kind of very surprising things people will let slip when there is "nobody" (meaning only the invisible people) around to hear it.

It wouldn't surprise me a bit of Jeremy was "invisible" to Corpse Witch. And that he knows much, much more than she realizes. Jeremy is really the one Officer Basilisk should be trying to suborn, but apparently he's invisible to her also.

OK, peoples - this is important.  I need to know if there is a vendor that sells that t-shirt Marten is wearing - the "Casual Friday" shark one.  thanks.

Ouch! Damn.  That must have been hard for him to take especially and even more so since it was an online person that alerted him.

Look a Bubbles' demeanor change when he shines his shiny eye in her face though.  I'm not saying Jeremy isn't a nice guy, but he might be Hypnotoad.

I don't think so.

Yes, there may be more to Jeremy here than meets the eye ( :D ), but I don't think it's that.

I think he's just the 'Quiet Guy In The Corner' that everyone mostly forgets about until he's needed, but sees all and hears all.   The Sage of the Fight Club.

I think it's going to be interesting to see what happens when Bubbles and Faye get their heads together.

It might be that it is the chassis that best suits his skill-set and interests. Maybe he likes building stuff and so was installed in a body most suited to pursue his vocation and art. It might be interesting to have a few strips of him and Faye talking about the finer points of aesthetic metalworking.

Someone give the poor guy a few buckets of Lego and MegaBloks.
