What is keeping the Wolf Queen's crown on her head in the last panel? Glue? Pins? The power of funny? I think it would have been funnier if it had fallen off.

Elastic chinstrap hidden under her fur.

Now I'm getting the feeling that Dungeons and Dragons night featuring Jeph Jacques is one long acid trip of lateral thinking and weird reality!

That's pretty standard for D&D nights everywhere, in my experience at least. Remind me to tell you the story of the time I taught an ogre to meditate.  :-D

Aaaaand so much for Bembo being any smarter or better educated than before...
Because he figured out Queen Shebly's weakness and used it to defeat her without harming her? That seems pretty smart to me.

No, I was referring to the previous strip, where he was pelting the farmer with live wolves...

Technically fulfilling the quest without killing wolves? Still pretty clever.

Or maybe he just likes crickets? Good protein, I hear.

Actually, the lizard queen looks a little surprised to me -- perhaps she didn't expect the barbarian to start eating their greatest treasure?

Not just lizards, crickets are nutritious. Bembo knows where it's at.

When you spend most of your time questing miles and miles from the nearest village and food, you quickly come to realise that anything with the right balance of proteins and vitamins is nutrition. I'm pretty sure this isn't Bembo's first bug meal. Heck I doubt that it's even his first live bug meal!

In fact, I seem to remember that the Mongols (the RL 'barbarians', or at least the horse tribe version) consider spit-fried locusts a staple dish.

I think Bembo is less annoying than Yelling Bird.

But I also think a whole week of him is a bit much.  I'm impatient because I really want to know what happens next in QC.

OTOH Bembo is most likely here because Jeph is working HARD on what happens next in QC.  Getting it before it's ready means getting something that's not as good as it could be.

So... wait through Bembo week.   whine, whine, okay.  Take the time you need to do the main thing right.

As I understand it, Jeph drew the Bembo strips early, like a month ago, so i suspect the reason Bembo is here now is so that Jeph can take this week OFF. Lots of other people take the week between Christmas and New Year's off -- I always do if I have enough time off left -- so why shouldn't Jeph?

A little time off to relax and recharge his (figurative, I presume) batteries gives Jeph what he needs to get back to working hard on QC next week.

Actually, I think that Bembo already is fighting Yelling Bird cultists; he's doing it here and on other comic discussion boards.
