My guess is that, this week, Jeph will try his hand at Shakespearean comedy.

Whilst the aftershocks of Renee realising that she fancies Elliott echo across The Secret Bakery, Brun makes her appearance and, in her usual direct way, decides that Elliott is 'off limits' as he and Renee had chosen each other (which they haven't). So, when Clinton comes in on a completely random errand, Brun directly asks him for a date, horrifying Renee and Elliott for differing but complimentary reasons. It is at that point (on Friday) that Renee makes the dumbest suggestion she has ever made: "Hey! Let's pretend that we are dating! That way, Brun will get jealous and try to 'steal you away'!"

I think I'd give Jeph a little more credit than that.

If you recall, Brun wanted to set up Renee with Pintsize. She is likely oblivious to (or just unwilling to acknowledge) Elliot's interest in her, or Renee's attraction to Elliot's abs.

It sounds less like Shakespeare than like No Exit: Renee wants Elliot who wants Brun who doesn't want anyone, but who needs Renee's place for her and the clock to stay at. All three legs of this triangle seem so obviously unworkable that all of it must be solely an excuse for laffs. Don't see any happily ever afters coming down the pike at Secret Bakery.

Probably because last week's was dated Monday through Saturday. Whoever did this week's presumably just added 3 days to the end of last week's.

What...? Dammit, Elliott, stop being such a sweet and cuddly plushie! He literally is a humanoid Labrador Retriever, isn't he?

Yes, Elliott; Renee considers herself your friend, even though your almost childlike innocence drives her to distraction sometimes. She might even be interested in being more but I don't think that she likes you enough to go that far, physical attraction or no.

Actually, now I think about it, Renee may classify as a Tsundere, at least in her reactions to Elliott.

What does "goober" mean?  What is a goober?

According to the Google, an 'unsophisticated person'. Using the word might also indicate that, like Faye, Renee is from the Deep South.

I think Elliot has more wherewithal than that, but not enough to really think about why Renee would want him to take his shirt off.  Wacky hijinks is probably as common a thing at the Secret Bakery as it is at Coffee of Doom.

Because he's being so sweet and innocent that acting mad is probably the only way to stop herself from glomping him and possibly frenching him there and then. After being verbally reprimanded by your boss for inappropriate behaviour to a co-worker, that is not an impulse to which you wish to succumb.

So, yeah, Marten's worst fears are true: This is a romantic comedy show.

It was Emily. Can't find the strip at the moment, but it had Gabby in it so it's fairly early in the interns' tenure.

Found this one with Emily saying "We're friends?" (with the help of the QC Strip-by-strip document), but I'm not sure if it's the one I'm remembering. There's not as much emphasis on "friends" as I was thinking. Still, my memory is notoriously porous, so I'll assume I was simply misremembering it unless someone finds another one.

I thought Shakespearean comedy mainly consisted of puns, inuendo, dick jokes, and fart jokes.

I've occasionally heard it in different parts of Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri; so it's a Midlands and Greater Appalachia sort of thing as well.

Or to the 2008 recession. I'll be honest, I had forgotten about those.

Though, I was referring to 'goober' usage in the same capacity as Renee had used it.

I think that this is the moment where Elliott learns that he will never understand women or, at least, this woman in particular. That aside, I don't think he can help but be disturbed (and maybe a little flattered) that she has noticed his physique and has been thinking a lot about it.

Meanwhile, I sense some oncoming Renee angst as she starts fretting over the fact that Elliott was unaware of the fact that she considers him a friend. Is she really that bad with people? It's not exactly the sort of thing that you want to know about yourself. I'm sure that, if she asked Brun, she'd get a devastating critique of her behaviour and I'm pretty sure that's what Jeph is planning to do.

Finally: Is 'Officially Platonic Friend mode' Renee's name for her comfort zone?

It can't be easy for Elliot.  He works 2 jobs so I don't know when he'd have that much free time to go to the gym.
They're probably both part time.

Possibly, but I had 3 part time jobs at one time which made it difficult to schedule in any time at the gym...  which I really couldn't afford anyway.

It's quite possible that Elliott has some gym equipment at home and he has days set aside for different parts of the ol' body.

Suddenly, I can see Brun telling him that she would be perfectly willing to help him remember to exercise so long as she can do so at the same time. There follows a panel of nervous babbling before he realises that she literally means that, in exchange for helping Elliott keep to his work-out schedule, she would come around his place to use his gym equipment too.

Elliot knows you can't spell "legendary" without leg day.

Renee is just a walking bundle of sexual harassment, isn't she? For the win, lady: making comments on someone's butt!

Pretty much my thoughts. It's a good thing that Jim probably didn't hear that and Elliott won't report it. "I'm sorry for sexually harassing you, sweet ass."

I find it ironic that someone built like Renee is commenting on someone elses body, especially what they could do to improve it
