I would use dresser and chest of drawers interchangeably. I tend to only use chest of drawers though.

Same here.  But "Dressing Table" is clearly distinct in spite of some similarity in the words.

Hope there aren't any low bridges along the way.

Depending on the route they take, it's possible.

Marten's maestro of mischief misses a mangling by mere millimetres. Such brashness behind the back of Bubbles boggles the brain.

Faye may have actually saved Pintsize's life at that point.

Going back to Claire's mum being chill, I'm reading through old comics and this seems to be a recurring theme with them.

It's interesting. I wonder if this is a parenting tactic.
You bet.

If you're cool with virtually everything, the kid will come talk to you about almost anything, which helps head off small problems before they become big problems. Also, if you're cool with almost everything, you send a YUUGE signal when you *aren't* cool with something.

I'm hoping someone will ask just what Pintsize was doing in Panels 1 and 2 that made him so happy... so I won't look like an idiot for asking.

The only thing I can think of is "watching Bubbles take off her armor", reinforced by Faye's comment about the "red" button. But that seems very not-definitive.

In Panel 2 he's thinking about what he plans to do to the plant while Bubbles is out of the apartment.

In Panel 2 he's thinking about what he plans to do to the plant while Bubbles is out of the apartment.

That fits the facts seen, the "paws" around the plant and the Big Evil Grin...

but... when have we ever seen Pintsize with an interest in doing unspeakable things to plants?

I have to say: The "direction" in this strip - the sequence of scenes - is outstanding. Highly cinematic. So many comics rely on characters in the same position from one frame to the next, relying just on dialog. Though that is sometimes part of the joke in a way. This sort of varying of "camera angles" though is one of the things that makes QC so good.

Just be sure that the kids know that there are still boundaries/structure, even if those are loose, so you don't wind up with the sort of kid who's constantly acting out (such a weird phrase) because they don't have any.

The plant is Arthur, and Bubbles is dedicated to looking after it - therefore Pintsize would be squaring up against Bubbles if he so much as touched it (which might have been his intention).  Faye certainly saved him...

Actually, even at her angriest Bubbles has always taken care NOT to harm anyone. Like the time when she stalked out of the "party" at Marten and Faye's place and made a hole in a wall when Faye tried to stop her. Or when she went back to her room and demolished a punching bag. So I'm not sure why everyone seems to think she'd murder Pintsize without a qualm.

Although I'm not keen on Claire, that penultimate panel is very nicely done.

Poll Results Post
The Occupancy Limit - What will it bring?

1. A week of heart-to-heart between Claire and her mother about flying the nest - 19 (24.1%)
2. Jeph doesn't follow this up at all and just goes off on some other subject - 16 (20.3%)
3. We finally meet the landlord - 10 (12.7%)
=4. Bubbles gets it in her head that she needs to find somewhere else to live - 9 (11.4%)
=4. Faye counsels just carrying on as if nothing is wrong because, as far as they know, it isn't - 9 (11.4%)
=6. Hannelore has a suggestion that might solve all their problems - 6 (7.6%)
=6. Marten chairs a House Meeting on the subject - 6 (7.6%)
8. Pintsize finally reveals his long-term game-plan about achieving his unholy goals - 3 (3.8%)
9. Other - 1 (1.3%)

A fairly clear result this week although, in the actual comic, I would argue that Claire's mother stopped just short of saying: "I'm happy for you! Now shoo! Shoo! I'm practising my riffs!"

Just a heads up: I don't have any ideas for next week's poll so someone else will have to start the thread.

Yep, only cartoon characters get septum piercings and they don't see your commentary on them.

Seriously though I'm personally sick of people talking about how they hate the septum piercing. Body mods are already a sensitive and personal thing and it sucks to see people make the same comments real people hear all the time about a fictional character who can't defend themselves. Plus it's the artist's decision and to me, it greys into telling the artist what to do.

I agree with the first half, but not this bit. Saying that you don't like when the artist does something is different from saying that the artist shouldn't do something.

I did say greys into it, not is it. I think "now lose it" can be reasonably interpreted as demanding. As in a hard instruction, not a literal demand.

I did say greys into it, not is it. I think "now lose it" can be reasonably interpreted as demanding. As in a hard instruction, not a literal demand.

"Now lose it!" could well be (and probably should be) seen as a demand... But I don't think anyone said that?

However... Bombarding Jeph with tweets about such things should probably be taken that way, but a throwaway comment in a forum wherein it's been made very clear he does not engage with... Nope.

Insofar as the focus of (certainly *my* comments)...
I have never liked Claire's character. (Not too keen on Clinton either.)
The addition of the septal piercing is just something adding to the perfect storm.

As regards "Seriously though I'm personally sick of people talking about how they hate the septum piercing."
I can understand that.

But it doesn't alter my personal feelings on the matter... and my personal feelings have no bearing on anyone.

I have friends with (some quite severe) body mods.
I think they're daft - They think *I'm* daft for not liking them...
It doesn't make me think less of them as a person, other than questioning their fashion sense, but hey - 35-40 years ago I wandered round in clothes made of bin liners and held together with safety pins and gaffer tape for a while. A few years later it was Kaftans. Now... Well, now I'm old and boring, but still dress up in full 'viking' regalia from time to time.

I understand (and utterly condemn) that there might well be places where such mods etc might be taken to be "freakish" and used as an excuse to de-humanise someone that people might view as other. And rightly outraged that some places in the UK have refused to take on board "Sophie's Law" in cases of victimisation.

But that's a far cry from me not liking septal piercings.
And, unlike those looking to use such things as an excuse for their own bigotry... I can at least give an explanation as to why I do not like them.
(Nutshell? Transference, personal aesthetics, and a life-time of sinus problems. That's pretty much the be all and end all.)

We can't All like Everything... So, before it starts, please don't try and spin my dislike of certain modifications into anything other than what it is...?
Cheers!

What, Marten, none of your friends have a car that can handle that dresser? Heck, my old '92 Escort hatchback would have had no problem with it, and it was not a large car. Fold down the rear seats, maybe use a couple of bungee cords if the hatch won't close completely, and presto.

For that matter, your old pal Jimbo probably has a pickup truck that could handle that dresser just fine. But maybe you never bothered to get his phone number?
Yeah, I know it's a full year later, but I can't believe no one pointed out the fact that Marten knows that Steve has a truck, and he does know his number.

Although, to be fair, I don't know how many times I've read through the entire archive, and today is the first time I thought of that.
