I think Hannelore's new haircut makes sense - the clothing drawn on characters at the moment implies late spring/early summer (mostly T-shirts and vests but still the odd hoody for colder spells) and people often get haircuts this time of year as the warm weather makes short hair more practical :)

How many geeks have had the epiphany that if you buy the exact same sock in bulk and get rid of the rest, you never have to match up socks again?
Hmm, all my socks are McGreggors but three different shades. I always go for a shade different from the ones I already have so I can tell the newer ones from the older and the ancient ones apart.
I also may have a dozen black T's of which half are crew and half V neck.

It wasn't an epiphany really, more like I just needed to make space in the sock drawer for the 75 pairs I won from the Snap-On tool guy.

Today's strip is maximum cute on many levels. I do like how Marten and Claire have adapted to Hannelore's particular needs. Hanners looks like she doesn't know whether she's grateful or if she should be telling them off for being silly!

Seriously, though, I wonder if Hannelore is ready to consider what she was thinking in yesterday's strip and what it means for her. Does this mean that she's 'over the hump' when it comes to her germaphobia? Is she really able to consider putting off personal cleaning for a few hours because she can't face it or was it just fatigue talking? They're big questions to answer because Hannelore's obsessive/compulsive cleaning is a huge impediment to her being able to do lots of other things at the moment.

Personally, I think that it's a result of having an 'outdoors life'. Working at Coffee of Doom and all the other things Hannelore does has forced her to compromise her obsessive cleanliness in many ways. It's now reached the point where her brain is able to leapfrog triggers; it's just that this is the first time she's consciously realised this.

Seems that Hannelore is more freaked out by not being freaked out about being dirty.  Perhaps she's concerned about losing her identity.

Someone needs to inform her, IMO, that "you are not your neuroses; you are not your disorders; you are not your illness."
Which is hard for a lot of people to accept, when those problems are so big that they do have a habit of eclipsing/supplanting/replacing your identity.  :(

Claire is adorable and I love the idea of pillowpats for someone who doesn't like to be touched - even though we've seen Hanners getting better enough to hug someone (she hugged Marten after getting the job at CoD), now is not the time to push that.

I recently read a comment from someone in a human service profession that people often identify with their problems and are afraid to lose them because they'd be mutilating their sense of self.

Attachment can be a subtle thing that creeps up on you from unexpected directions.

Comfort pillow-patting is adorable, and so is Hanners's new hair.

I think that I understand Claire's dilemma here. We've all seen things that we feel compelled to buy even though we have no use for them (even if said use was clearly defined). With me, it's pop science books that I never end up reading. The point is that the urge to buy something just so you feel that there was a reason you had for going into the shop is pretty strong and my mother has a startling large number of bookmarks from museum gift shops as a result.

Onto the subject at hand: You know that Claire has moved in and that she and Martin are a serious long-term relationship because she's started to redecorate. It's started with new adornment to the furnishings and curios that she thinks will 'make the place look nicer'. Trust me that a full redecoration can't be far behind!

As for said curio, I think it's one of those pseudo-perpetual motion machines that you trigger then can auto-hypnotise yourself by staring at when you're bored or stressed.

Finally, I can hear Pinhead saying to Pintsize: "Yo, little brother! Mom is gonna be mad at you for going out without telling her when you'll be back!"

May as well start looking for a place to put Claire's antique oak roll-top desk now, Marten.  (I know, she doesn't have one - YET, but she already has funds set aside for when she finds it.  She'll need it for her inkwell, quill pen, and blotter.  And don't forget the sealing wax!)

Oh, I know that one. I have a Kindle, and there's a huge amount of history you can pick up in e-form at Project Gutenberg. (Just finished a 19th century history of the Fourth Crusade....)

With me, it's history books, especially from used bookstores.  I have more than I'll ever read.

Oh, I know that one. I have a Kindle, and there's a huge amount of history you can pick up in e-form at Project Gutenberg. (Just finished a 19th century history of the Fourth Crusade....)

And even more you can pick up for 1.99-2.99 via the daily sales  at Bookbub.

Well, the fact that you both continue to read his comic does strongly suggest that you do.

It's surprisingly easy to imagine Pintsize with nails stuck into that round melon of his.
Likely with the plank/bat still attached to them.

I think that I understand Claire's dilemma here. We've all seen things that we feel compelled to buy even though we have no use for them (even if said use was clearly defined). With me, it's pop science books that I never end up reading.

With me, it's history books, especially from used bookstores.  I have more than I'll ever read.
*raises hand sheepishly*
Antique books. Especially if it's older than 1955.

I just wish my first edition 'A Princess of Mars' was in better condition. The poor thing's binding is coming undone. At least my oldest book is still in good-ish condition; 'Vanity Fair: A Novel Without a Hero' from 1848.

'Vanity Fair: A Novel Without a Hero' from 1848.

With the original illustrations. Thackeray drew his own illustrations, so they are PART OF THE BOOK! but no modern publisher will include them.  I've been trying for years to find such an edition.

Maddeningly, this doesn't say too much about the illustrations...
