My oldest book
*low whistle*
Wow.

I don't have the proper storage/display for a book that old.

'Vanity Fair: A Novel Without a Hero' from 1848.

With the original illustrations. Thackeray drew his own illustrations, so they are PART OF THE BOOK! but no modern publisher will include them.  I've been trying for years to find such an edition.

Maddeningly, this doesn't say too much about the illustrations...

BUT.. this looks promising...

My copy has a simple red cover, the date I got is from the letter that also serves as the forward, as no date is shown on either side of the title page.

'Tacit' meaning an agreement that goes without saying. So they're both promising to always wear pants?

Tacitly, Hanners agrees to wear pants and Winslow agrees never to punch Hanners' butt.  8-)
