Castlerook AMA
« on: 01 Sep 2017, 06:21 »

Or the guy formerly known as TheEvilDog.

I'm going to be cooped up at home for the weekend, so inspired by Thrillho and Welu, I thought why not do an AMA.

General things:
Male, He/Him.
Straight.
Born and raised in the Republic of Ireland.
Varied career.
Single.

He's dead and buried in the cellar. CUE THE MANIACAL LAUGHTER!

Pinched his avatar and posts, at least!

And his bank account too!

Nah, but seriously, TED was a name I'd been using since my late teens (15 years nearly!) and its been one that I've stopped using over the last couple of years. Plus, that guy was such a little shit!

Either that or this is my ultimate form....You folks decide.

OK, let's get this started (feel free not to answer bcs. 'none of your business/can't be arsed to answer/whatever'):

* Age? (I'm guessing early-to-mid thirties)
* Varied Career sounds interesting - Can we hear more?
* Is this John Travolta in your Avatar-pic?

Well, let's see...

*Born in December 1984
*My first job post-college was Quality Assurance for a laboratory in Cork and then a distillery. Then the Credit Crunch happened and the labs downsized. So I got into business administration - filing documents, that sort of thing. After a year or so, I then got into Tourism for a couple of years, even worked as a manager in the local tourism board and then worked as a training officer for new staff, dealing with Erasmus students. Now I'm the social media manager for a small PR company. So varied enough for just over 10 years.
*No, player created character from Dragon Age Inquisition. I sometimes use it for an icon on forums.

It's worth checking people's profiles.  Just because I didn't enable displaying age alongside posts doesn't mean it's not there for a lot of people.

No. I think the Irish equivalent would amount to "Here, wear this fake moustache and pretend you're Dave from down the road. They'll never recognise you."

Tangentially related, do you have a moustache and if so is it real?

I do have a moustache and a beard...well...I did. Trimmed it down this week... Normally I go for heavy stubble for definition or something close to the Balbo beard.

Off the back of the Dragon Age mention, are video games a big hobby for you? Favourite game?

They're not as large a hobby as they used to be. I mean, I'm a long time gamer and before I really got into video games, I was a tabletop gamer and I'm slipping back into that.

But the question was about video games. So what's my favourite game? That's a difficult one to answer. In fact I don't think I have a particular one. The ones I still really enjoy are:
- Resident Evil franchise, its a simple enough story, but the real reason I still like it is that its an easy stress reliever.
- Dragon Age franchise, just because I love the story and the world, even if they're sometimes poorly implemented.
- Elder Scrolls, mods. I like being able to create a game to my own particular interest.
- Metal Gear Solid franchise, pretty much the characters.

You're not the first person to ask that.

I tried many, many, many years ago to get into chess, but an overly competitive principal kinda quashed that interest.
