'Nother new guy

Hello!

I'm Dave. I stumbled onto Questionable Content based on a remark somebody made in the forum of another webcomic I've been following for a while (The Whiteboard, if anyone's counting) and ended up reading the entire archive in about three days.

Who'd'a thought I'd enjoy reading about the relationship troubles of a bunch of characters half my age? I have children of my own older than most of them. But I was impressed with how Jeph presents the hope, fear, joy, disappointment, affection, anger, hurt, comfort, grace, and awkwardness that comes with being a person living with other people. And on top of that, it's funny!

I've come to identify with Marten, because I'm also a well-meaning pushover. I've become very fond of some of the other characters too, like Claire (smart and ambitious, which I envy), Hannelore (she reminds me of my late wife, who had a compulsive streak of her own), Marigold (a nerd after my own heart), Faye (another side of my wife, whose father passed when she was young), and Jimbo (I grew up with many of his cousins I'm sure). And I've pretty much fallen in love with Bubbles' facial expressions. The totally innocent look on her face as she watched Sam draw on Punchbot made me completely forget she's a trained fighting machine.

So about me, if you've read this far: I'm a father of three grown children, the youngest almost done with college. I'm engaged to marry a lovely lady from Toronto and hope to retire to Ontario with her. I'm a design engineer doing electronic and embedded software development. I'm a part-time computer gamer and former D&D player (AD&D, back before anybody ever heard of "editions"). I've been a ham radio operator for over 40 years and a science fiction and fantasy fan even longer than that, and one day I WILL play a song on this here guitar.

So thank you for leaving the door open for me to come in and enjoy QC!

Heh, I played D&D back before anybody ever heard of AD&D. So you're almost as old as I am. 8-)

Welcome to the forum, Dave!

Sadly, your lugwrench is safe for now (we'll explain later) but welcome to the forums!
