WCDT Strips 3691-3695 (5-9 March 2018)
« on: 04 Mar 2018, 18:29 »

Another week, another poll!

I couldn't remember all of the "dates" that were part of QC lore, but I think I know which one'll be #1 at the end...

You know, I really enjoyed the informal first date between Marten and Dora. It wasn't planned (well, not by Marten anyway), it was two friends hanging out and by the end it was something more. Its kinda nice to see that kind of storytelling.

It wasn't really a date for anyone other than Claire's imagination but the whole DOGS! attempt to get Emily and Clinton together cracks me up every time.

If he had just had a conversation with Roku first, it would have been fine. You don't just spring your kinks on a potential partner without discussing it first. Consent is vital.

Steve and Cosette’s first date—http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1543

And surely Pintsize should know that toast is for the third date?

Comic Up!
I think that this is one of the key aspects of Claire's personality. Whilst she can be abrasive, she is genuinely kind towards her friends (and, surprisingly, Pintsize) fits into that. She wants to be supporting but she knows boundaries, possibly as as a result of trying to 'help' Clinton.

The one thing that I just can't get out of my head is this: Does this mean that Pintsize really has a thing for throwing toast at people's heads? I mean, I've heard of weirder things to be into but this definitely fits into the 'bizarre' category for me!

Small question for fellow forumites: Does it look to anyone else that Claire's hair is grown out a bit. I'm still hoping against hope that I can guess time-frames based on things like this.

Yeah, so much for the notion that Roko was actually dating the toaster and Pintsize was simply there as the toaster's assistant!

I am utterly embarrassed to admit that it took me a good two minutes looking at the poll and thinking "Why doesn't it say 'Bubbles Introduction' ?", before I realised that, "which date in QC history", didn't mean, "Which Particular Day in History"...

Maybe Roko shouldn't have assumed "I want to eject my toast into your orifices" was a euphenism... Also, Pintsize has abysmal aim, it seems.

Roko has only succumbed to a toast fetish whilst intoxicated. Basically, for her, it's one of those things that only are arousing when she's flying high. When her brain is working normally, not so much.

I would like to wax wroth on the evils of nonconsensual toast-firing, but am distracted by wanting to try it and by worrying that my toaster won't fire toast that far and that this means that I am insufficiently manly. It is all very difficult.

I do enjoy it when Pintsize gets character time. A chance to evolve beyond butts and pranks. Though he seems to have been prank free since the wolf urine failure.

I think Pintsize has a thing for trying anything that someone might find pleasurable. He does, after all, consider rule 34 to be an example of human greatness.

I feel bad for Roko. I dunno why. I think it just feels like she's someone who is trying to do the Right Thing, has consulted a rulebook on the subject, and is now trying to follow those instructions but everyone else just has to make things complicated and difficult. She goes to work- her badge gets stolen by a racoon. She goes to get coffee- gets a neon unibro. She goes for ankle repair- the surgeon waves severed limbs in her face. Goes on a date- gets Pintsize. There's wacky hijinks, and then there is the universe's chewtoy. *Clinton* probably has more normal days than her!

Whoops, sorry. I should explain that my post wasn't a response to yours at all, but I just realised that it looked that way.

The exclamation point I was talking about was "Sven and Hannelore!"

And by giveaway, I meant that it made it obvious which would be the forum favourite (as if it wasn't obvious already).

This is obviously a guest comic by Jeff Jacks, in response to the previous comic where Pintsize is acting as wingman to an AI toaster.

After reading this comic, I have questions. Such as, why would a robot have bread in her apartment, much less a toaster? It’s not like she needs to eat.

Also, what’s in Robot Beer that can make a robot drunk?

And why am I overanalyzing what was obviously a silly gag? Stop that, Zebediah!

Why does my phone want to autocorrect “Zebediah” to “Zebras”?

NONE OF THIS MAKES ANY SENSE.

After reading this comic, I have questions. Such as, why would a robot have bread in her apartment, much less a toaster? It’s not like she needs to eat.

I offer three options, and an admonishment:
1) Un-introduced human roommate.
2) Much in the way robots enjoy sniffing tea, she finds the smell of toast to be pleasing.
3) Much like pintsize, she enjoys eating.
4) A gentleman doesn't ask a lady about the contents of her special alone-time drawer.

Imagining Steve's inner dialog:  "My first impulse is to call upon my government operative training and dismember this entity, at least to a point where I can be certain it is rendered harmless.  However, it is making no attempts at deception, and indeed is quite forthcoming with information.   Further, it is clearly fond of cereal.  We share, therefore, a community of interest and are natural allies."

I love the cool way that Steve handles this. As an ex Bond-style spook, Melon is actually one of the least weird people he's ever met. I've no doubt that he'll be bricking up that tunnel for security reasons but one can't help but wonder how many other private residences she can just 'drop into' if she feels like it.

That aside, everything about Melon is this comic is cute. She's obviously not eating, she's just imitating Steve's behaviour. Why? Maybe she thinks that imitating human eating behaviours if fun or something; she's unique enough a mind that you can't rule out anything! Then, having been defeated by the tab-and-slot at the top of the cereal box, she tries to rip it open with her mouth! That probably tells you a lot about how her train of thought tends to go sideways!

Actually if you look closely you can see that the box is already open. It’s just empty, so Melon starts eating the box.

And of course there’s a tunnel in Steve’s basement! How does he think Tortura gets in?

My headcanon is that it is a decommissioned spies’ safe house which the USDKYA sold off and Steve was able to get cheap. It has lots of other surprises as well, like a second basement below the first one housing an invisible car.

Which Steve can't find because he left it on 'invisible' mode when coming home drunk one night and Cossette has lost the remote.

See drink-driving is bad. Drink driving an invisible car should probably be a war-crime.

You know, yes, she's eating the box.

And yes, Steve has to find out where the other end of that tunnel is.

And yeah, it's weird that she's not wearing pants.

And it's true, robots don't actually need to eat.

But my mind is still stuck on her tee-shirt.  "Ass Golf."  I'm just thinking, Ass Golf does not sound like a good idea.  But this is Melon we're talking about.  What counts as a good idea from her perspective is not the same as from mine.  She's probably trying to organize a league.  And I'm absolutely sure that Pintsize would join.

I don't know if it's a reference to something else, but ass.golf is one of the urls that redirect to QC. Jeph uses it on his twitter frequently.

It's a bit like polo except you ride the back of a donkey and try to drive the ball as far as you can.

I can't believe that I didn't recognize Roko and needed today's comic to point it out!
