Who's that unfamiliar dude in today's strip? Have we encountered him before?

</sarcasm>
I think his name is Monty, or Marcus, or Malcolm... something like that.

(jusk kidding, Marten. We’ve missed you!)

T-shirt idea:

I used to be
TEH
protagonist

Yes, Faye or Pintsize could mark up one of Marten's TEH t-shirts (he's got, what, at least three of them?) to say that -- I'd love to see Marten wearing that!

Melon and Emily should stay as far away from each other as possible.

They're at risk of creating a critical mass of Weird and ripping a hole in the fabric of the universe.

She's smart though, if it turns out to be a good reaction Melon won't hesitate to spread word and she will have new customers.

I just hope that it's not illegal to make robots high or Dora will have some tough explanations for the cops.

Melon said that "corrosive is just spicy for robots." So drinking drain cleaner would be what, like a human drinking straight sriracha sauce? Or maybe eating a whole habanero pepper?

Yes Melon, that is "the trick"

It looks almost like Melon was activated (woken, brought on-line, made conscious, however you want to describe it...) with absolutely no background knowledge of the world into which she was being unleashed. In other words, a complete innocent, bumbling through a world full of hazards - it's a wonder that (so far) she's only lost her butt!

Probably just like drinking pure resiniferatoxin. (500 to 1000 times stronger than pure capsaicin)

That's true - it reminds me of this.

I like the way Jeph gives Melon a distinctive stride by drawing her with an exagerated armswing.

Yes, Melon has rumbled the dirty little secret ('dirty' secret based on her facial expression in panel 2) to identifying what is the location you're about to enter! I'm sure that Arthur will be most impressed with her achievement!

I have the feeling that the great chemical difference between tea and drain cleaner will mean that Melon is in for a very, very bad trip. I've got the feeling that she's going to hallucinate a horrible Cthonic monstrosity and then complain to Emily that she "didn't want to have to explain again to Charlie why I dumped him!" or something similarly other-worldly.

I think that it's more the case that she makes absolutely no assumptions about anything. Just because apartments have numbers on the main door doesn't mean that it is the apartment's number. Just because there are names painted on the outside of shops doesn't mean that this is the name of the shop. She is having to verify that empirically on a case-by-case basis and I don't think she believes that it is a universal rule!

What if you had a party entirely consisting of bards and/or bard multi-classes (i.e. bard-barian)?

I'm so tempted to suggest this to one of my RPG groups. An entire party of Bards, and we'd call ourselves the Tenacious Defenders.

"We have the power... to MOVE you..."

In a LARP I do (Disclosure.. haven't been for a couple of years) Bards have some of the most powerful magic in the system.
If you are going up against a high level Bard, you'd best pray he has no immunity to "Silence"... which, of course, is never the case.

 :-D

In my LARP  experience, a Bard's greatest power is fast-talking a newb about how exactly the rules work. ( http://amtwiki.net/amtwiki/index.php/Reeve )
Reeve: "So, uh... Why are you just walking around the game area?"
Me: "I was compelled to walk around the field 100 times!"
Reeve:"... It was [BARD], right? the ACTUAL effect is you have to count to 100 while completing the task. Get back to the game. "

It's like Melon is an immigrant from a whimsical Saturday morning cartoon.

She seems odd in the QCverse because it's relatively more grounded.

As usual, I love Dora's sharp business sense 8-) ; always seeing money to be made (five bucks), balanced by pragmatism (waiver).

Not sure what version of QC you’ve been seeing that makes her seem odd. I see a QC where DeathBot 9000 walks down the street and no one even seems to notice, and Punchbot is a CPA. Even when Melon barged into Elliot’s apartment, he didn’t seem phased, so I’m guessing it wasn’t the first time. Even Dora didn’t seem terribly surprised in yesterday’s strip. And to be honest, I know a few IRL humans who are almost as outré as Melon is.

Granted, Melon seems to have weirded Emily out now, which is saying something.

Why does Melon get to sit in Bubbles' chair?
I don’t think it’s so much that she “gets to”, but that Melon just does whatever pops into her head.

And as long as she doesn’t spill any drain cleaner, she’ll probably be fine.

Bubbles has first dibs on the chair but it's not reserved for her and her alone.

Working as I do with teenagers in local authority care, there is something about today and yesterday's strip that raise red flags for me. Combined with this strip, I can't help but wonder if Melon has become addicted to real or hallucinatory sensory inputs that are so intense that it triggers paralysis or involuntary shut-down - a sort of mental self-harm. It may be me, my experiences tend to make me hyper-aware of these risks.

My worries about Melon's safety aside, I do think it's worth noting that we've finally seen something that Emily isn't able to brush off with an airy smile. That's a pretty unique moment in any assessment!

She also probably generated one or two pages of critical errors in her Event Viewer too!

Will we one day see Bubbles, Roko and maybe even Momo and May staging an intervention? Would Melon, burned out acid-head that she is, even fully understand it?

IMHO, there was nothing wrong with either The Final Frontier or with Generations that a bigger budget (in the former case) and restoration of scenes deleted for run-time reasons (in the latter case) couldn't solve. The underlying stories and the performances were very good. With the exception of Nemesis, the pre-Abrams Trek films never dropped below 'just good' in quality for me.

I had the same thought actually, her behavior worries me a lot. Most of the stuff she does seem like kinda destructive or at least unhealthy things to do.

Considering that's Bubbles' chair, it seems way too small and snug in that first panel especially.

Bubbles' chair expands or contracts to fit its inhabitant.

If Melon wants something stronger then she should tell Bubbles she was sitting in her chair.

She wants something stronger...not deadly.

Then again the idea of her having a self destructive death wish makes me think she'd be OK with deadly.

Not sure what version of QC you’ve been seeing that makes her seem odd.
This version.
Fair enough. But she’s still not that much weirder than a lot of things we see in QC.
It definitely crosses the threshold where even the characters in-universe would find it weird.
