There are limits to her self-destructiveness, though. Despite apparently convulsing, she did not spill the cup on Bubbles' chair. Instead, she set it carefully upright on the floor.

Although, to be fair, Bubbles is softening up a little, so she might not actually kill Melon for spilling acid on her chair.

Corvids are more of a problem than other birds because corvids play.

Some other raptor might while away time by messing with the latch, and eventually manage to open it.

A crow will while away time by messing with the latch, and then eventually get *interested* in messing with the latch, and then when the latch finally opens, it will look around and see all these *other* interesting latches (on other cages), and make this "hey that might be fun" connection that other raptors just don't.  And then it has to go find out if its new trick works on them too.

Mellon just fried her olfactive receivers...

And is probably thinking "Who cut this?"

I'm betting that Dora has a bottle of "Old Battleship" whiskey in the back room.  Any takers?

I'd bet against it. There used to be a bottle of "emergency bourbon", but after this incident, I doubt Dora has that any more.

Probably so.  But there's 'emergency bourbon' and there's 'Old Battleship'.  The latter requiring full hazmat gear for safe handling.

This week's been a bit much Melon for me... I didn't mind the mini-Monday arc of her and Roko, but having this whole week be her "wacky" antics...?  Nah.  Not my cup of tea.

I'm sure we'll get back to stories I like soon!

Well, I know some people have played around with glowing yeasts, but the results were less than spectacular. Mostly because to have a bit of a glow, you need a hell of a lot of active yeast in your product, which doesn't necessarily help the taste. People often don't credit how important yeast is for flavour. And when you put it through a still, that's the end of any fancy effect.

Can CoD actually serve drain cleaner? Over here, I think that might run into some issues with food safety regulations.
Although, the coffee some dare serve ...

I don't know how long Hannelore has been gone, but she's certainly tanned, toned, and mentally capable of a lot of things she wasn't before.

I'm starting to wonder if she's truly baseline.

Hanners is forcing herself to do things she would never do at home, this might be the greatest thing to happen to her since meeting Marten and Faye.

And she has a point about yak or bison poop...that stuff would whittle down even the strongest of nerves.

Well, it looks like Marigold is still having the same problems. She's still introverted and fearful of any social activity; she's also still clearly desperate for Momo to do things for her, even things that she wants to do herself. Just out of interest, I'd love to know how often Momo needs to threaten Marigold with her Tesla Blaster.

Meanwhile, what a great contrast we see in Hannelore! Out somewhere (possibly Mongolia) in a temporary camp-site and clearly bonding with the local bison/yak, she looks healthier in so many ways. I mean, can anyone imagine pre-blow-up Hannelore spending time with a large bovine that lives out-of-doors, let alone being in full-body contact with its hide (she gives hima hug in panel 6)? When she returns, I've got the feeling that everyone is going to be worried at first that she's been replaced by a pod-person and it won't be because of the tan and improved muscle tone!

Of course, Hanners was always strong. What she needed was to teach herself to believe it.

Ok, on the first hand, wow.

On the second hand, that reminds me of when Hanners was introduced - smoking in the bathroom of a bar, ragging Marten - and how her piercings were handwaved. And I'm rather concerned over whether she's continuing to grow beyond her boundaries, or...in a bad-med-place that is going to lead to horrible crash. Like if she wants to push her limits I'm all there for it but I hope she has a base to go back to if she needs it to collect herselfand isn't just out there bare-assed until she goes up in flames. Just saying, that seems kind of extreme and I'm concerned.

Yay, Hanners!   :-)

Where is she? Yaks are originally cold climate critters - but Hannelore plainly ain't dressed for the cold!
Shoveling latrines...some sort of commune, maybe?

( I'm just picturing Marigold's face when Hanners says she's "brushing Mr. Snuffles" :-D )

Hannelore might be in Mongolia, in which case she is likely in a Yurt camp (look it up) and an external latrine is normal. Either that or she's in a wildlife preserve somewhere in the ConUS and there is a temporary camp where she and various undergrads are carrying out volunteer vetinary work. The light clothes makes me lean towards the plains of Wyoming or Colorado as the location. Mongolia is a high plain and would be cold enough to demand heavy riding leathers and furs that would make Hannelore look like one of Genghis Khan's warriors.

Mongolia is quite hot during the short summer, but Yak do not do well in hot weather. They have specialised adaptions to cold, high-altitude environments and can get heat-stroke at quite low temperatures (Wikipedia says as low as 15C). My head-canon is that it's summer where Hanners is, and she's stripped for hard work around noon. She's certainly got the high-altitude tan. I'd guess Nepal, though Tibet, or Sichuan would not be out of the question for someone with access to a stealth airship...

I used to live in Nepal and can confirm that even in the mountains, it can be t shirt weather in the hot season - especially when doing strenuous activity. By the evenings she'd have to be bundling up in some yak wool though. Also, high altitudes make you tan/burn like crazy, even if it's not "hot."

I would definitely vote for Colorado or Wyoming as well. That looks much more like a bison (buffalo) than a yak, although the yak is often confused for being a relative of the bison, and Hanners is unfamiliar enough with animals that she could easily confuse the bison as “some kind of yak”. We have them up in northern lower Michigan, but I don’t know of anywhere up there where they might have latrines that could possibly need shoveling out.

It may be the light clothing and the tan, but Hanners appears to me to be fitter and healthier than ever. I mean, look at her abs! Maybe, when she gets back, she'll have a sixpack.  :-D

As far as we know, it's still late winter or early spring in Northampton. If Hannelore really went to the higher reaches of central asia, the climate should be quite fresh at this time of year. Maybe we had a time jump again?

Well, considering she's going to be cleaning a latrine without, presumably, hazmat gear, I'd say it's a step forward, really.

We've got American bison here, in Kansas, but I don't recall any of them having fur quite so shaggy. I'm not sure whether that's a yak or a bison, but I'm kind of leaning towards yak. Though the "hair" on the top of its head being a darker brown throws me off.

Here's what I think of when I hear/read the word 'bison'.

Considering this is what a yak can look like, I think Hannelore is right and the animal is a yak, not a bison.

Mr Snuffles is most likely a European Bison, given the shape of the horns, the hair huft on the head and the shape of the hump at the shoulders. They tend to be found in Poland, Russia or the Ukraine.

As for Hanners screaming herself hoarse, yes its most likely due to the fact that she's going to be cleaning a latrine. However she could be combining it with primal therapy.

Wow, Hanners looks ripped, what the heck has she been doing? And that tan, although that seems out of character for her.  And finally, shovel out the latrine? What the hell for?  The whole point of a latrine is to contain wastes.

If we could see Mr. Snuffles lower jaw at a different angle, there'd be much less uncertainty. From this angle, Mr. Snuffles doesn't appear to have classic bison beard.

EDIT: typo fix. Dumb wording fix.

Wow, Hanners looks ripped, what the heck has she been doing? And that tan, although that seems out of character for her.  And finally, shovel out the latrine? What the hell for?  The whole point of a latrine is to contain wastes.
Depending on what they're calling a "latrine", it could be something above ground that actually does require occasional emptying to keep it usable. My question is more along the lines of this: How does Hanners use such a latrine every day - to say nothing of ever having to shovel it out?

Am I the only one kinda...over Melon? She was fun as an absurd side gag but now that she's entered canon, so to speak, she is way too much.
Yeah.  Oh look, Melon's doing something incredibly wacky again gets boring quick.

Not for me. I still love her just as much as ever. But to each their own, I suppose.

Not bored tourists, a diliberate attempt to destroy indigenous people's way of life. The systematic culling of the buffalo population was, at least in part, just another step in the genocidal campaign against the original inhabitants of the continent.

We may see a very different Hannelore when she finally returns to Northampton, one shed of all sorts of obsessions, compulsions, hangups, and phobias.  (She might even be up to...ahem...doin' th' wild thang.)

Wow, that's a pretty solid party choice!

Though, I suspect that a tinker, singing warlock, alchemist, bard, and fighter could manage to work as a fairly decent party, too. Assuming they worked well enough together.

I'm honestly kicking myself for not making Clinton an artificer instead of a tinkerer.
